Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed linebacker Junior Sylvestre and placed quarterback Ryan Tannehill on injured reserve.

Sylvestre joins the Dolphins after spending part of the 2017 offseason with Buffalo and the 2016 offseason and training camp with Indianapolis. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Colts on May 4, 2016. Sylvestre was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at Toledo, where he was a two-time first-team All-Mid-American Conference honoree. He wrapped up his collegiate career with 286 tackles (164 solo), seven sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 51 games played. Sylvestre is a native of nearby Hollywood and attended South Broward High School.

Tannehill has started 77 games for the Dolphins over five NFL seasons. His 62.7 career completion percentage is second in team history and his 86.5 career passer rating is third among all-time Dolphins quarterbacks. He had his most efficient season as a professional in 2016, his first under Head Coach Adam Gase, where he completed 67.1 percent of his passes, averaged 7.7 yards per attempt and posted a 93.5 passer rating, all career highs. He originally joined the Dolphins as a first-round pick (eighth overall) in the 2012 NFL draft.
