Miami Dolphins Sign Butler

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed linebacker Donald Butler The team has placed defensive tackle Earl Mitchell on injured reserve.

Butler is a five-year NFL veteran who has played in 71 games and made 62 starts with the San Diego Chargers (2011-15). During his career, Butler has totaled 370 tackles (267 solo), seven sacks, three interceptions, 12 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. He also started two playoff games for the Chargers in 2013 and recorded 17 tackles (13 solo), one interception and one pass defensed. Butler spent the 2016 training camp with the Arizona Cardinals but was released on Sept. 2, 2016. He originally entered the NFL as a third-round selection (79th overall) by San Diego in the 2010 NFL draft.

Mitchell was injured in Sunday’s game at Seattle after recording one assisted tackle. He has played in 29 games with 16 starts since joining Miami as an unrestricted free agent on March 12, 2014. Throughout his seven-year NFL career, Mitchell has played in 92 games with 33 starts and recorded 190 tackles (116 solo) and 5.5 sacks. He was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round (81st overall) of the 2010 NFL draft and spent his first four NFL seasons (2010-14) there.
