Miami Dolphins sign Timmons and Allen

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed Pro Bowl linebacker Lawrence Timmons and safety Nate Allen as unrestricted free agents.

Timmons has played in 158 games with 126 starts in 10 seasons with the Steelers (2007-16). He earned second-team All-Pro honors and was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2014 season in which he totaled 132 tackles (87 solo) and two sacks. In his career, Timmons has tallied 952 tackles (652 solo) with 35.5 sacks, 12 interceptions, 42 passes defensed, 13 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. He has played in 14 career postseason games, including two Super Bowls, and was a member of Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl XLIII championship.

Timmons has active streaks of 120 consecutive games played and 101 starts, which are the longest active streaks in the NFL among linebackers. In 2016, he led the Steelers defense with 114 total tackles (78 solo) to go along with 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, a forced fumble and five passes defensed.

Allen has played seven NFL seasons, beginning his career with the Philadelphia Eagles (2010-14) before playing the past two years with the Raiders (2015-16). In 2016, he played in 14 games with four starts and totaled 26 tackles (20 solo), two interceptions and three passes defensed. He has played in 93 career games with 76 starts and has career totals of 355 tackles (279 solo), four sacks, 13 interceptions, 34 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Allen originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (37th overall) by the Eagles in the 2010 NFL draft.
