Miami Dolphins make trade with Houston

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have acquired a 2023 sixth-round pick from Houston in exchange for tight end Adam Shaheen and a 2023 seventh-round pick.

Shaheen played in 28 games with 12 starts for the Dolphins since he was acquired in a trade from Chicago on July 26, 2020. During his five-year NFL career, Shaheen has appeared in 55 games with 25 starts, totaling 50 receptions for 509 yards (10.2 avg.) and seven touchdowns. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (45th overall) by Chicago in the 2017 NFL Draft following a collegiate career at Ashland.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed punter Sterling Hofrichter and waived punter Tommy Heatherly.

Hofrichter (pronounced hoff-rick-tur) was a seventh-round pick (228th overall) by Atlanta in the 2020 NFL Draft. He played in all 16 games for the Falcons his rookie season, totaling 56 punts for 2,381 yards (42.5 avg.) with 17 inside the 20. In 2021, Hofrichter spent part of the season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad and appeared in two games for the Buccaneers. He played collegiately at Syracuse.

Heatherly signed with Miami as an undrafted college free agent from FIU on May 13, 2022. He was a three-year letterman for the Panthers, playing in all 30 games from 2019-21. He earned first-team All-Conference USA honors in 2021.

Miami Dolphins activate Campbell

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have activated defensive back Elijah Campbell off the non-football injury list.

Campbell was awarded to Miami off waivers on Sept. 1, 2021 from the N.Y. Jets. He played in seven games with the Dolphins last year, totaling two special teams stops. He played in three games for the Jets in 2020. Campbell originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Cleveland on May 4, 2018. He’s also made stops with the DC Defenders of the XFL and the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football. Campbell played collegiately at Northern Iowa.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have released/failed physical defensive lineman Adam Butler.

Butler played in all 17 games with one start for the Dolphins last season. He recorded 17 tackles (nine solo), 2.0 sacks and three passes defensed. Butler spent the first four seasons (2017-20) of his career with New England and has played in 80 career games. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Patriots on May 5, 2017. Butler played collegiately at Vanderbilt.

Miami Dolphins sign Ellis

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed cornerback Tino Ellis.

Ellis first signed with Miami’s practice squad on Oct. 15, 2020 and has had multiple practice squad stints with the Dolphins since then. He was also on Miami’s roster for the offseason program and training camp in 2021. Ellis played for the Michigan Panthers of the USFL this past spring, totaling 35 tackles (26 solo) and one interception. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with New Orleans on April 29, 2020. Ellis played collegiately at Maryland.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed wide receiver Mohamed Sanu Sr. and released wide receiver Cody Core with a non-football injury.

Sanu Sr. (pronounced suh-NOO) enters his 11th NFL season after spending the 2021 season with San Francisco. He has played for Cincinnati (2012-15), Atlanta (2016-19), New England (2019), Detroit (2020) in addition to two stints with the 49ers (2020-21). Sanu has played in 136 career games with 96 starts, totaling 435 career receptions for 4,871 yards (11.2 avg.) and 27 touchdowns. He’s also appeared in nine playoff games and helped Atlanta win the NFC Championship in 2016. Sanu was originally a third-round pick (83rd overall) by Cincinnati in the 2012 NFL Draft after a collegiate career at Rutgers.

Core signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad on Nov. 29, 2021 and spent five games there. He was originally a sixth-round pick (199th overall) by Cincinnati in the 2016 NFL Draft and played three seasons (2016-18) with the Bengals before he was claimed off waivers by the N.Y. Giants in 2019. Core has played in 51 career games with seven starts, totaling 33 receptions for 388 yards (11.8 avg.) and one touchdown. He played collegiately at Mississippi.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed defensive back Elijah Campbell on the active/non-football injury list and cornerback Byron Jones on the active/physically unable to perform list.

Campbell was awarded to Miami off waivers on Sept. 1, 2021 from the N.Y. Jets. He played in seven games with the Dolphins last year, totaling two special teams stops. He played in three games for the Jets in 2020. Campbell originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Cleveland on May 4, 2018. Jones was signed by Miami as an unrestricted free agent from Dallas on March 21, 2020 and has started 30 games for the Dolphins over the past two seasons (2020-21). In his career, Jones has played in 109 games with 103 starts and totaled 421 tackles (326 solo), four interceptions, 57 passes defensed and five forced fumbles. He was a Pro Bowl selection in 2018 and Miami’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee in 2020. Jones originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick (27th overall) by Dallas in the 2015 NFL Draft following a collegiate career at Connecticut.

Miami Dolphins announce schedule for 2022 Training Camp Presented by Baptist Health

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced today their 2022 training camp schedule presented by Baptist Health with practices held at the Baptist Health Training Complex in Miami Gardens. The team will hold its first public practice on Saturday, July 30 at 10:25 a.m. and will host the Philadelphia Eagles for joint practices on Wednesday, August 24 and Thursday, August 25. Additional and up-to-date information about Miami Dolphins training camp can be found at miamidolphins.com/trainingcamp.

This year’s training camp will feature theme days, food trucks from local and minority-owned restaurants, fan festivities, and the garage sale benefitting the Miami Dolphins Foundation.  Fans in attendance at the Baptist Health Training Complex will experience practices under a shaded canopy over the seating area.

The Dolphins will host practices at the Baptist Health Training Complex, the team’s state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2021 in Miami Gardens. Baptist Health serves as the Official Medical Team and Official Wellness and Sports Medicine Provider of the Miami Dolphins and the Training Complex and is also a proud partner of the Miami Dolphins Foundation.

Attendance for any of the open practices is free, but fans must reserve tickets through the Miami Dolphins Account Manager by Ticketmaster. Fans can secure tickets for the 2022 Miami Dolphins Training Camp at https://am.ticketmaster.com/dolphins/MDTrainingCamp2022.
