Miami Dolphins make roster moves
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have signed wide receiver Khalil McClain and waived tight end Carson Meier.
McClain spent part of training camp with Chicago before he was waived on July 28, 2021. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Chicago on May 14, 2021. McClain caught 32 passes for 383 yards (12.0 avg.) and six touchdowns as a senior at Troy in 2020. His six receiving touchdowns were tied for the team-high.
Meier joined the Dolphins on July 26, 2021. He started one game for Atlanta in 2019 and originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Jacksonville on May 10, 2019. Meier was a four-year letterman (2015-18) at Oklahoma, where he played in 54 career games with 12 starts.

Miami Dolphins and Lexus Announce Multi-Year Partnership
Miami Gardens, Fla – The Miami Dolphins and Lexus announced a multi-year naming rights partnership today, connecting two brands at the forefront of luxury and entertainment. Through this comprehensive relationship, Lexus will be the Official Luxury Vehicle of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, elevate the in-game experience for current and potential Lexus owners in the newly named Lexus North Sideline Club and positively impact the community through support of the Dolphins Challenge Cancer.

As the Official Luxury Vehicle of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, Lexus will have significant branding presence at all stadium events and will entitle a custom content series. In addition, fans will be able to experience the newly named Lexus North Sideline Club designed by the award-winning Rockwell Group. Located between the 30-yard lines on the north side, this unique space offers wider, padded seats for fans and an air-conditioned club.
A South Florida community pillar, Lexus will play a key role in driving support for the Dolphins Challenge Cancer (DCC). The Miami Dolphins have pledged $75 million from the DCC to fund innovative cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, a part of UHealth – the University of Miami Health System, the largest known philanthropic pledge in sports. To help with the fight against cancer, Lexus North Sideline Club Members will receive one complimentary registration to participate in the DCC courtesy of Lexus to DCC XII on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have activated tight end Mike Gesicki off the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Gesicki has played in 47 games with 21 starts over three seasons (2018-20) with the Dolphins. He has 126 career receptions for 1,475 yards (11.7 avg.) and 11 touchdowns. Gesicki’s 703 receiving yards in 2020 were second-most by a tight end in Dolphins history and ranked fourth among NFL tight ends that season. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (42nd overall) by Miami in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins Junior Dolphins Impacts More Than 15,000 High School Football Student Athletes Throughout South Florida
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins Junior Dolphins program announced its impact on youth football engaging with more than 15,000 high school football student athletes throughout South Florida over the last five years.
In an effort to transform lives and grow participation of boys and girls football teams, the Dolphins have supported all 142 varsity high school football programs in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County schools through team visits, equipment donations, character building or game day experiences.
“We love the game of football and are committed to our mission to teaching, learning and playing our sport in a fun and safe environment,” Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs Jason Jenkins said. “Our Vice Chairman and CEO Tom Garfinkel set the vision to have an intentional impact to impact coaches, players and trainers in South Florida and we are proud to have positively engaged every school in the tri-county area.”
In celebration, the Junior Dolphins program invited athletic directors from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County schools along with the Miami Norland Senior High School football team to attend a Miami Dolphins training camp practice at the Baptist Health Training Complex on Saturday, August 7. Miami Dolphins representatives presented the athletic directors of each county with a jersey to commemorate the initiative.
Miami Dolphins Junior Dolphins 5-Year Total Impact:
- The Junior Dolphins program hosted 65 high school football team visits to Dolphins training camp practices.
- The Junior Dolphins program hosted game day experiences for 20 high school football teams.
- The Junior Dolphins program donated more than $500K in athletic equipment to high school football teams.
- The Junior Dolphins program through the support of Baptist Health provided $260K towards equipment, health and wellness clinics.
- The Junior Dolphins program supported more than 30 girls flag football programs in South Florida.
The Junior Dolphins program encourages youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment. As stewards of the game, Junior Dolphins strive to grow participation in the game, impact the football community and build the next generation of Dolphins fans. Through strong community partnership and strategic resource distribution, all aspects of the Junior Dolphins program work to emphasize character building to increase the overall experience in youth football.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have waived long snapper Rex Sunahara.
Sunahara spent part of last season with the Dolphins practice squad and had multiple stints on the active roster this offseason. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on Aug. 1, 2020. Sunahara was a three-year letterman (2017-19) at West Virginia, where he played in 25 career games.

Sunahara joined Miami’s practice squad on Nov. 16, 2020 but was waived on July 23, 2021. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on Aug. 1, 2020. Sunahara was a three-year letterman (2017-19) at West Virginia, where he played in 25 career games.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have activated tight ends Cethan Carter and Adam Shaheen and wide receiver Preston Williams off the reserve/COVID-19 list. The team also released tight end Gabe Holmes and waived tight ends Sal Cannella and Kalif Jackson.
Carter joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent on March 18, 2021. He’s played in 46 career games with five starts in four seasons (2017-20) with Cincinnati. Carter has totaled seven career receptions for 66 yards (9.4 avg.) and one touchdown. He also has 26 career special teams stops (17 solo). Carter originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Cincinnati on May 5, 2017.
Shaheen joined the Dolphins in a trade from Chicago on July 26, 2020. He played in all 16 games with five starts for Miami in 2020, totaling 12 receptions for 150 yards (12.5 avg.) and three touchdowns. Shaheen has played in 43 NFL games with 18 starts, totaling 38 receptions for 399 yards (10.5 avg.) and seven touchdowns. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (45th overall) by Chicago in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Williams has played in 16 games with 14 starts over two seasons (2019-20) with the Dolphins. He’s totaled 50 career receptions for 716 yards (14.3 avg.) and seven touchdowns. Williams played in eight games with seven starts for the Dolphins in 2020, recording 18 catches for 288 yards (16.0 avg.) and four touchdowns. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on May 9, 2019.
Holmes joined the Dolphins on Aug. 3, 2021 and has played in 10 NFL games with four starts, all for Arizona during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He’s also spent time with Indianapolis (2019), Baltimore (2017), Seattle (2017) and Oakland (2015-17). Holmes originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Oakland on May 8, 2015. A native of Miramar, Florida, Holmes prepped at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Cannella signed with the Dolphins on Aug. 2, 2021 and was a three-year letterman (2017-19) at Auburn, where he caught 25 career passes for 330 yards (12.8 avg.) and five touchdowns. As a senior in 2019, Cannella had 10 receptions for 188 yards (18.8 avg.) and two scores. He transferred to Auburn from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College following the 2016 season.
Jackson signed with the Dolphins on Aug. 2, 2021 and was a two-year letterman (2018-19) at Grambling State, where he played in 19 games. He totaled nine career receptions for 79 yards (8.8 avg.). Jackson was a graduate transfer from Florida following the 2017 season. He appeared in nine games for the Gators from 2016-17.

Miami Dolphins Foundation Provides Tuition Support through the Nat Moore Scholarship and Vocational Grant Endowment Program for South Florida Students
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins Foundation announced six South Florida high school students as the 2021 scholarship recipients for the fourth annual Nat Moore Scholarship and Vocational Grant Endowment Program. Selected through an application process that demonstrates community service, leadership, financial need and academic standing, the selected student will receive tuition support towards their university or vocational program of choice.
“As stewards of the community it is our responsibility to support the future leaders in our youth and by giving them access to gain greater knowledge, we hope to provide them with the tools to make an impact in South Florida and the world,” Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Special Project & Alumni Relations Nat Moore said. “We are so proud to select these outstanding students who have displayed exemplary character, hard work and academic success as the 2021 recipients of the Nat Moore Scholarship & Vocational Grant Endowment Program.
In recognition, the recipients were also invited to attend a Miami Dolphins training camp practice at the Baptist Health Training Complex on Monday, August 2.
2021 Nat Moore Scholarship and Vocational Grand Endowment Program Recipients:
- Stracey Aurelien of Lake Worth Community High School will attend the University of Miami to study health science.
- Chiyle Briggins of Doctors Charter School of Miami Shores will attend Florida Agriculture Mechanics University to study computer science and software engineering.
- Alyssa Huott of Boca Raton Community High School will attend the University of Florida to study anthropology.
- Amanda Pellach of Boca Raton Community High School will attend Penn State University to study veterinarian and biomedical sciences.
- Tanaé Price of Miami Norland Senior High School will attend Florida Agriculture Mechanics University to study business administration.
- Jada Ray of Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School will attend Georgia State University to study music management.
The Scholarship and Vocational Grand Endowment Program is a continuation of the Nat Moore Foundation, which started in 1998 to serve the youth of South Florida through education. In its fourth year under the Miami Dolphins Foundation, the program’s mission is to provide South Florida with the financial resources needed to pursue avenues of education and training for employment readiness. Both the scholarship and the grant are expressly designed to bolster efforts to bridge a gap between receiving financial assistance and obtaining a degree or vocational diploma. This initiative aligns with the Miami Dolphins Foundation’s commitment of leveraging the power of sports and entertainment to inspire a healthier, more educated and united South Florida community.
