DOLPHINS IMPROVE TO 2-2 ON THE SEASON

Today’s win is Miami’s 11th in its past 15 regular season games, dating back to Week 6 of the 2016 season. It is the team’s best 15-game stretch since they won 11 of 15 from Oct. 26, 2008 to Oct. 12, 2009.
The Dolphins have now won eight of their past 10 games at Hard Rock Stadium, dating back to Jan. 3, 2016. It is the team’s best 10-game span at the stadium since they won 11 of 12 from Sept. 23, 2001 to Oct. 6, 2002.
This is the Dolphins’ fifth win in their past six Hard Rock Stadium openers.
QB Jay Cutler is 2-0 all-time at Hard Rock Stadium. His only other game at the venue was on Nov. 18, 2010 when he beat the Dolphins as Chicago’s starting quarterback.
This is Miami’s first home victory over Tennessee since Nov. 14, 2010.

RESHAD JONES GIVES MIAMI A DEFENSIVE TOUCHDOWN

S Reshad Jones returned a fumble recovery 38 yards for a touchdown with 6 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The touchdown was the fourth of Jones’ career and first fumble return touchdown. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns in 2015 and also had a pick-six in 2013.
It was Miami’s first defensive touchdown since LB Kiko Alonso’s 60-yard interception return to beat San Diego on Nov. 13, 2016 and Miami’s first fumble recovery for a touchdown since CB Cortland Finnegan returned a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown on Sept. 28, 2014 against Oakland in London.
The fumble was created by a sack from LB Kiko Alonso. It was Alonso’s first sack since his rookie season in 2013 and first forced fumble since Nov. 20, 2016 at the L.A. Rams.
S Reshad Jones is now tied for the second most defensive touchdowns in team history with four:

BIG PLAYS FOR THE DEFENSE

The Dolphins defense made several big plays today, totaling six sacks, two turnovers and one defensive touchdown. The team’s six sacks were its most since Oct. 18, 2015 when they had six at Tennessee. It was the team’s first multi-turnover game since Dec. 17, 2016 at the N.Y. Jets.

GODCHAUX FORCES FIRST CAREER FUMBLE

DT Davon Godchaux forced a fumble by Titans RB DeMarco Murray in the first quarter. The forced fumble was the first of Godchaux’s career. It was recovered by S Reshad Jones and led to a field goal that gave Miami a 3-0 lead. Godchaux was a fifth-round pick (178th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2017 NFL draft.

BRANCH RECORDS FOURTH MULTI-SACK GAME OF HIS CAREER

DE Andre Branch posted two sacks in the first half, tying a career high. It was the fourth multiple sack game of his career and his second with the Dolphins after joining the team in 2016. He posted two sacks at Philadelphia (9/7/14) and vs. Indianapolis (12/13/15) and had 1.5 sacks vs. Pittsburgh (10/16/16).

JONES AND WAKE COMBINE FOR A SACK

S Reshad Jones and DE Cameron Wake combined for a sack of Titans QB Matt Cassel at the Tennessee 1-yard line in the third quarter. The sack forced a Titans punt from deep in their own territory. For Jones, he now has 9.5 sacks in his career, which is second all-time by a defensive back in Dolphins history. Wake now has 84.0 career sacks, the second-most in team history and second-most all-time among undrafted players in the NFL.

DENNEY TIES KUECHENBERG FOR THIRD PLACE IN TEAM HISTORY

LS John Denney played in his 196th career game today, tying Bob Kuechenberg for third place in team history. Denney has played all 196 games in his 13-year NFL career and is the team’s all-time leader in consecutive games played (196).

DE Cameron Wake made the 100th start of his career today. Wake has played 120 games in his nine-year NFL career.
