Postgame – Baltimore

C Daniel Kilgore (transcribed by Devin Davis)

(This was a tough one for you guys obviously the first game of the season. Just your thoughts on the game itself?) – “Obviously it’s a loss that you don’t want to experience, that you don’t want to be a part of. We’re going to be men and we’re going to take this, and we’re going to take ownership of it. We’re going to move on. We are going to come in tomorrow and watch film and see where we’ve got to be better, and work on getting better and get ready for the next week.”

(Where did this game get away from you guys so quickly in the first quarter?) – “I think it’s when you don’t move the ball, you don’t start drives and you don’t have positive plays early on, it puts you in a tough situation where its third-and-long. And with this defense, they are a good defense. When you put yourself in these tough situations early on, it makes things much harder for you. Positive plays first, starting a series would be more ideal and we didn’t have that.”

(We know you guys are professionals, you’re not going to make excuses over wins or losses. But with that being said, when you have a new group of guys put together with the offensive line does it make it that much difficult to go into a game?) – “Again, you hit it on the nail. We’re professionals. These guys have to come in and be ready to go and I felt that they did that during the week. It’s not just the new guys, it’s everybody. It’s all on us – all 53, 46 (players) on game day. We’re going to look at it tomorrow like I said. We’re going to be men, take ownership of it and get better from it.”

(Did the Ravens do anything that you guys didn’t expect?) – “No not at all. You know Baltimore, they’re a good defense, always have (been). They’re well coached, (have) big guys up front, speed and size on the edges. Nothing out of the ordinary. We just have to play better.”

(You guys want to be a running team – 21 yards against the Ravens. What was the issue?) – “Again, I think it’s when you don’t have those positive plays at the beginning of the series. Whether it’s a 3-yard run or a 4-yard run, we have to be able to build off that more consistently. The pass game feeds off the run game. The run game feeds off the pass game. When you’re able to do both things at one time, you’re going to experience more success and we weren’t able to do that.”
