WR Jaylen Waddle

(Was it me or did you guys start off slow and then you picked it up?) – “Yeah, I feel like we started out kind of slow. Kind of found that groove mid to late practice. Definitely not the practice we wanted but we can learn from it. That’s what practice is for. We learn from it.”

(Head Coach Mike McDaniel was saying joint practices are always good because you get to face a different team that may have a different style. Did you notice anything different from Atlanta’s defense that may be different from what you guys see here?) – “Yeah, they’ve got a lot of talent on that side of the ball. So they do a good job of utilizing their guys and putting them in positions where they can win. That’s kind of the key difference. It was a good practice. Good competition.”

(You guys have like six guys in the NFL Top 100. What does that mean to you coming into this year as you try to be the best team you can be?) – “Yeah man, it’s great. We know we’ve got a lot of talent on his team. A lot of guys that have had a lot of success in this league and have had success in this league for a long time. So just playing with guys like that is always exciting and it’s good for the team, good for the organization.”

(What have you noticed about RB De’Von Achane aside from the speed?) – “Oh man, he can cut on a dime. He’s very hard to get down. His balance is crazy. He had a crazy run today. I was like, he’s going to be one of them ones.”

(You guys have a relationship dating back. Didn’t you guys play AAU? What was that like?) – “Yeah, he was on the younger team than me. But yeah, I’m a bucket-getter. I’ve been getting buckets for a long time. You feel me. (laughter) It’s good seeing him grow up and going to (Texas) A&M, and just following his journey to now, we’re teammates and stuff. We used to beat him real bad when he was at A&M. (laughter)

(Did you face off against him in track in high school?) – “No, I wasn’t really a big track guy. He’s a burner though. I’ll still beat him.”

(He was talking about his ability to run inside earlier today. Do you think people underestimate that because he’s such a speed guy?) – “Yeah, I feel like they do. I feel like people think of him more of an outside guy because he can turn the corner and get gone. But no, I’ve seen him run in between tackles and break tackles and stay on his feet and do a lot of amazing stuff this camp. I’m like man, he’s going to be good.”

(What does WR Braxton Berrios bring to the receiving corps this year?) – “Oh man, Braxton’s the man. He brings a different dynamic here. You know he’s dynamic in the return game and dynamic making plays for us out wide and in the slot. So he’s going to bring another big-play ability to our offense.

(On what WR Braxton Berrios brings to the WR room) – “Yeah, definitely. He does a great job of knowing his assignment and being where everybody expects him to be. He’s going to continue to do that for us.”

(Your level of production has increased in your first two years in the league. What did you focus on this offseason to try and keep it up?) – “Just staying consistent. Really harp on the little things and little details that Mike (McDaniel) and Tua (Tagovailoa) want me to be on. Especially this year, coming in to the second year in the offense. So the little aspects of being where I need to be, where they want me to be, at a certain time.”

(WR Tyreek Hill was talking a couple days ago about how Wide Receivers Coach Wes Welker breaks up you and Tyreek into groups with the wide receivers to create competition.) – “Yeah, we won. (laughter)

(How long has that been going on and what’s the score count?) – “You ask him that. (laughter) I can’t tell you who’s on my team, just know we’ve got some steppas on there. We’re going to continue. I think we might have one today. They had a pretty good day, too. But yeah, he got our teams. Our team’s stacked. Loaded. I’m not going to lie, like, GM crazy. GM skills crazy. (laughter)

(So you picked your squad?) – “Yeah, you know it. (laughter)

(There’s never been a Dolphin receiver get 1000 yards, three consecutive years? Were you aware of that?) – “No. Not really.”

(What would it mean to you to be the first to get 1000 yards again this year?) – “Man, all that comes with the game. Ultimately, it’s a goal I’ve never really looked at. But I’m just going to try to stay consistent throughout the year and make plays when the team needs them. When they call my number, just be ready to make it.”

(How hot was it out there today?) – “Yeah, it was blazing. It was one of the hottest days. I know we felt it. I know they felt it. It’s going to be like that on Sundays, so you’ve got to work through it, push through it and ultimately move forward.”
