Tyler Huntley – January 5, 2025 (Postgame) Download PDF version

New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins | 1-5-25

Miami Dolphins QB Tyler Huntley (transcribed by the New York Jets)

On how he would categorize the ending of the season…

That’s a way you don’t want to go out. I know I had some costly turnovers today. That’s not how we wanted to end the season. We work all season to work on ourselves, bettering ourselves in all aspects of the game, defense coming together, our run game, pass game, complimentary, everything, all of that came up short. We just came up short.

On why this start did not go as smoothly as his last one…

It’s just one of them days. It’s cold, slick ball. It played a big factor. But, given that, we’ve got to be ready for situations like this. Coming down to the last game of season, however many degrees it is out there, we’ve got to be ready to come out and play.

On not converting an opportunity early in the game and if he sensed the game would be a struggle…

That’s a division game. They’re going to come out to play. They just did a good job on defense. They did a good job. They had a nice little plan for us. And we just didn’t take advantage of all our ops. Definitely, we’ve got so many plays that we want back, but all we could do now is learn from them.

On whether he was aware of Denver leading in their game against the Chiefs…

I was too mad about how our game was going to even focus on what somebody else had going on. Just tried to come back late in the game, and it just didn’t come.

On whether he considered these last two games as an audition to become the team’s backup quarterback moving forward…

Yeah, definitely. I just really was trying to get this team some wins late down in the season, keep our playoffs hopes alive. But yeah, definitely, that’s all I was trying to do.

On how QB Tua Tagovailoa was on the sideline…

Man, he was good. When I came off, he was the first one to tell me that the balls were slick, and I was the one throwing them so it’s good he knows exactly how the game goes. Just coming to the sideline and be able to talk it out with him, it’s always good.

On whether he was aware of why WR Tyreek Hill was not playing in the fourth quarter…

Well, from my knowledge, I already knew he was kind of a little bruised up coming into this game. When you’re a great player like that, you can’t run fast all the time. Sometimes it hurts. So that’s probably what happened, but we’re too in tuned into the game, trying to just rally at the end.

On whether he felt the cold was a factor in this game…

I’m not saying the cold was a factor, but it definitely was cold. But no, that’s football. We know we’re coming down late in the season, it’s going to be cold. We’re not in Miami.
