Tyreek Hill – September 27, 2023 Download PDF version

(Can you see the impact the motion, in particular the motion at the snap, has on the defense?) – “Oh yeah, I can. Most definitely. It definitely allows us to catch the defense off guard in many ways. I wish I could sit here and explain it to y’all, but it’s a lot. But yeah, it definitely gives us an advantage, especially for me being a smaller guy. Corners aren’t able to jam me at the line of scrimmage so I’m able to use my speed and run routes so we all love that.”

(Obviously you were doing some of it last year, but it seems like the evolution this year especially how the short motion and maybe the in and out – can you maybe give me an insight of what that evolution has meant to the offense?) – “It’s just coaches giving me the freedom to just play with the offense a little bit and I’m just having fun with it. And each and every day at practice, I’m just enjoying it, finding small nuances where I can get better and I’m loving it each and every day.”

(How much more are you seeing the game maybe as a coach now that you see all this motion and all that type of stuff?) – “Now the game has slowed down for me so much that it’s crazy. I’m able to notice coverages, I’m able to know what the defender is going to do before he even does it and that helps me out a lot and I sometimes find myself yelling out the coverage for Tua (Tagovailoa) whenever I’m on the field. So if he doesn’t see something, I’m going to see it so it helps me out, it helps out the other guys on the field and it’s definitely a huge advantage for us.”

(I know you guys have your tracking devices and it tells you the speed and all that after a practice and game. Do you ever go on the Next Gen Stats to see how the other players around the league…?) – “No, I don’t get into that because when you know you’re the fastest, there ain’t no reason to get into that, right? (laughter)

(How impressed were you with RB De’Von Achane? Four touchdowns, just to come out like that and have his NFL coming out party in that fashion?) – “That’s crazy, for him to be able to come out first game of the year for him and to win (AFC Offensive Player) of the Week is crazy, so shoutout to him. I know he’s going to continue to improve and get better each and every week so the sky’s the limit for him.”

(Do you think speed wears down defenders throughout the course of the game?) – “Oh, for sure. For sure. Teams can’t play man to man on us all game because – just like when I was asked earlier about the motion, it wears down defenders. For a guy like me, I feel like I can run all day. Unlike a guy who is six-foot-and-up, not used to running a lot. I can run all day basically.”

(A good buddy of yours in Kansas City has caused some stir in the air with his dating relationship. I’m curious if you have any thoughts on TE Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift?) – “No comment on that. But shoutout to my boy Kelce though man. Keep balling. I love you. I miss you and that’s all I got to say, man.”

(You’ve been on championship teams. Teams that have had to take steps one step at a time to get where you want to go, and show that your championship caliber. Where do you see this Sunday’s game in regard to where this team wants to go?) – “To us, we take it week by week. We’re looking at this game like any other week. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is. We’re going to practice the same way we’ve been practicing the past weeks, and we’re going to go out there and play our hearts out and try to come back to Miami with a W.”

(Do you have a preference with how to pronounce RB De’Von Achane’s name?) – “Nah, I don’t get into the pronunciation of anybody’s name because I found myself saying (Travis) Kelce’s name wrong for the past seven years. It’s not Kel-see, it’s Kels. I don’t get into that anymore.”

(One other thing on the motion other than the fact that you raised about not being jammed at the line of scrimmage, how much do you think running starts help receivers in motion when you’re running as the ball is snapped?) – “It’s kind of hard. It’s kind of a pro and a con. Like I said, it allows taller DBs not to get hands on us, but at the same time it’s like, man ‘how do I run this route at full speed, already moving at full speed and break down and get out of it?’ There are advantages, and disadvantages, but it’s all about wanting to do it and help this team get better. I’m good at it. I’ve been doing this my whole life – motioning like that, playing around with motions like that. I feel like I’ve learned from some of the best when I was back at KC when I was watching (Travis) Kelce motion. I’ve had time to watch and learn and know how to do certain things in this league. Now I’m teaching the young guys how to do it.”

(Did you get flak from your teammates about your post-career aspirations?) – “Oh, yeah. A lot of my teammates are hating on me right now. But I was joking. I was definitely joking. It’s something I don’t want to do. I was just joking. I was playing a game with a good friend of mine, Mike Evans. I don’t want to do anything like that.”
