DOLPHINS SELECT DT CHRISTIAN WILKINS IN FIRST ROUND
  • Wilkins became the fourth defensive tackle and the 12th defensive lineman taken in the first round by the Dolphins.
  • The Dolphins have now taken more defensive linemen (12) in the first round of NFL drafts than any other position.
  • Wilkins is the first defensive tackle the Dolphins have selected in the first round since 1996 when the team took Daryl Gardener with the 20th overall pick.

  • Wilkins is the ninth player in Dolphins history to be drafted from Clemson and becomes the first player Miami has ever selected in the first round from the school.
  • Clemson had three players drafted in this year’s first round, tied with Alabama and Mississippi State for the most by any school. All three players were defensive linemen as Wilkins joined DE Clelin Ferrell (4th overall to Oakland) and DT Dexter Lawrence (17th overall to N.Y. Giants).

  • Wilkins won two national championships (2016, 2018) in his four seasons at Clemson. He is the fifth Dolphins draft pick in the past four seasons to win a national title. S Minkah Fitzpatrick won two national championships (2015, 2017 at Alabama) and LB Raekwon McMillan (2014 at Ohio State), CB Cordrea Tankersley (2016 at Clemson) and RB Kenyan Drake (2015 at Alabama) also won national titles in their collegiate careers.
  • Wilkins is the fourth player the Dolphins have selected at No. 13, joining T Laremy Tunsil (2016), RB David Overstreet (1981) and LB A.J. Duhe (1977). Duhe was the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1977 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1984 while Tunsil has started 44 games in his first three NFL seasons.
  • Wilkins joins CB Cordrea Tankersley and TE Dwayne Allen as the third Clemson player on the Dolphins’ roster. Miami drafted Tankersley in the third round (97th overall) in the 2017 NFL draft and signed Allen as a free agent on March 9, 2019.
