DOLPHINS SELECT HUNT AT No. 39 OVERALL
- Miami’s first pick of the night was used to select Louisiana-Lafayette T Robert Hunt. Hunt becomes the second offensive lineman drafted by Miami this weekend, joining USC T Austin Jackson who was picked 18th overall.
- Offensive line is the most selected position all-time by the Dolphins. Hunt is the 117th offensive lineman taken by Miami.
- Hunt becomes the first player in Louisiana-Lafayette’s history to be drafted by the Dolphins. If he appears in a game, he will also become the first Ragin’ Cajun to ever play for the Dolphins.
MIAMI PICKS DAVIS AT No. 56
- Miami used its second second-round pick to select DT Raekwon Davis at No. 56 overall.
- Davis became the second player from the University of Alabama selected by the Dolphins in this draft, joining QB Tua Tagovailoa (fifth overall). He’s the 12th Alabama player to ever be chosen by Miami.
- The Dolphins have taken two Alabama players in the same draft once before. In 1980, Miami picked DB Don McNeal in the first round (21st overall) and C Dwight Stephenson in the second round (48th overall). Stephenson went on to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- Davis is the third Alabama defensive lineman drafted by the Dolphins and first since 1986.
DOLPHINS GO WITH JONES AT No. 70
- Miami used its lone third-round pick on Texas S Brandon Jones at No. 70 overall.
- Jones is only the fifth former Longhorn to ever be chosen by Miami and the highest-picked Texas player in Dolphins history.
- Jones becomes the 100th defensive back drafted by the Dolphins and the second this year, joining CB Noah Igbinoghene, who was the 30th overall pick of the draft last night.
- DT Kheeston Randall was the last Texas player drafted by the Dolphins back in 2012. Randall is also the last Texas player to appear in a game for the Dolphins. Jones could become the ninth Longhorn to ever play for Miami.
- DB Glenn Blackwood is the only other Texas defensive back selected by the Dolphins. Blackwood was chosen in the eighth round (215th overall) of the 1979 NFL draft and played nine seasons (1979-87) with the Dolphins.
