2020 NFL Draft Notes – Day 3
DOLPHINS MAKE 11 SELECTIONS, MOST SINCE 1997
  • Miami made 11 selections in the 2020 NFL draft, which was the most the team has made in a single draft since 1997.
  • The Dolphins wound up taking 14 players in the 1997 draft. That draft yielded several long-time contributors including Pro Football Hall of Fame DE/LB Jason Taylor and All-Pro CB Sam Madison.

DOLPHINS MOVE UP TO NAB KINDLEY
  • Miami packaged two late-fourth-round picks (136 and 141) to move up to No. 111 to select Georgia G Solomon Kindley.
  • Kindley became the third Dolphins offensive lineman selected in this year’s draft. It’s the most offensive linemen picked by Miami in a single draft since 2008 when the team picked T Jake Long, G Shawn Murphy and G Donald Thomas.
  • Kindley is the ninth Georgia Bulldog taken all-time by the Dolphins and the first since TE Arthur Lynch was a fifth-round pick (155th overall) in 2014.
  • Kindley is the second Georgia offensive lineman to ever be drafted by Miami. The Dolphins also took C Vernon Smith in the 16th round (413th overall) in the 1975 draft.
MIAMI PICKS STROWBRIDGE IN FIFTH ROUND
  • The Dolphins used its first of two fifth-round picks (154th overall) to select DE Jason Strowbridge from North Carolina.
  • Strowbridge becomes just the fourth Tar Heel to ever be selected by the Dolphins.

BOISE STATE’S WEAVER IS THE CHOICE AT No. 164
  • Miami used its second fifth-round pick (164th overall) to select DE Curtis Weaver from Boise State.
  • Weaver became the third defensive lineman to be drafted by the Dolphins this weekend. It’s the most by Miami in one draft since 2017.
  • Weaver is just the fourth player in Boise State history to be drafted by the Dolphins.

DOLPHINS SELECT FERGUSON IN SIXTH ROUND
  • Miami drafted a player whose primary position is long snapper for the first time in team history with selection of LS Blake Ferguson at 185th overall.
  • Ferguson is the 11th player from LSU to ever be drafted by Miami and will join current Dolphins DT Davon Godchaux, who was the last LSU player to be drafted by Miami in the fifth round (178th overall) in 2017.
MIAMI CLOSES WITH PERRY AT No. 246
  • The Dolphins drafted a player from the Naval Academy for the first time in team history, selecting RB Malcolm Perry at No. 246 overall in the seventh round.
  • If Perry plays in a regular-season game, he’ll be the first player from the Naval Academy to ever play for the Dolphins.
DRAFT WEEKEND TRADES
  • Miami traded a 2020 first-round pick (26th overall) to Green Bay for a 2020 first-round pick (30th overall) and 2020 fourth-round pick (136th overall).
  • Miami traded two 2020 fourth-round picks (136th and 141st overall) to Houston for a 2020 fourth-round pick (111th overall).
  • Miami traded a 2020 fifth-round pick (153rd overall) to San Francisco for RB Matt Breida.
  • Miami traded a 2020 fifth-round pick (173rd overall) and a 2020 seventh-round pick (227th overall) to Philadelphia for a 2020 fifth-round pick (164th overall).
  • Miami traded a 2020 seventh-round pick (251st overall) to Seattle for a 2021 sixth-round pick.

  • Miami picked three offensive linemen this weekend, the most for the team in one draft since 2008.
  • Five of Miami’s draft picks came from SEC schools – two from Alabama, one from Auburn, one from Georgia and one from LSU.
