- This marked the first time in franchise history the Dolphins selected a player at sixth overall. No. 10 is the only position Miami has never selected within the first 30 overall picks of the draft.
- The selection of Waddle at No. 6 is the highest the Dolphins have ever drafted a wide receiver.
PHILLIPS BECOMES FIRST HURRICANE DRAFTED BY THE DOLPHINS SINCE 2012
- Miami selected DE Jaelan Phillips with the 18th overall pick of the draft.
- Phillips is the first player from a Florida college drafted by the Dolphins since 2013, when Miami selected three players from Florida (LB Jelani Jenkins, RB Mike Gillislee and K Caleb Sturgis) in the same draft.
- He’s the first player from the University of Miami selected by the Dolphins since 2012, when Miami drafted two Hurricanes – DE Olivier Vernon and RB Lamar Miller.
- Phillips is the second player in Dolphins history to be drafted at No. 18 overall, joining T Austin Jackson, who was the 18th overall pick in last year’s draft.
- Phillips becomes the 18th Hurricane drafted by the Dolphins. That’s the most draft picks from any school in Dolphins history:
