2021 NFL Draft Notes – Day 3

DOLPHINS DRAFT COLEMAN AT NO. 231 OVERALL
  • Miami used its first of two seventh-round picks on T Larnel Coleman, who was selected at No. 231 overall.
  • Coleman is the first Dolphins draft pick from UMass in team history. If he plays in a regular-season game, he’ll become just the third player in UMass history to appear with the Dolphins, joining WR Brandon London (2008) and G Josh Samuda (2012).
  • This marks the third consecutive season the Dolphins have drafted multiple offensive linemen in the same draft.
  • The last offensive lineman the Dolphins selected in the seventh round was G Tony Pape in 2004 (221st overall).
DOAKS IS MIAMI’S SECOND SELECTION IN SEVENTH ROUND
  • The Dolphins selected RB Gerrid Doaks with their final pick of the draft at No. 244 overall.
  • Doaks is just the second player in Dolphins history to be selected from Cincinnati, joining LB Brad Jackson, who was a third-round pick (79th overall) in 1998.
  • This marks the fourth consecutive season the Dolphins have drafted a player listed at running back. Miami chose RB Malcolm Perry (seventh round; 246th overall) in 2020, RB Chandler Cox (seventh round; 233rd overall) and RB Myles Gaskin (seventh round; 234th overall) in 2019 and RB Kalen Ballage (131st overall) in 2018.
QUICK HITS
  • Miami traded a 2021 5th-round pick (156th overall) to Pittsburgh for a 2022 fourth-round pick.
  • The Dolphins had 150 picks taken by other teams between the 81st overall selection (TE Hunter Long) and the 231st overall selection (T Larnel Coleman). It’s the longest gap between picks in a single draft in team history.
