POSTGAME NOTES

MAXWELL’S FORCED FUMBLES

  • CB Byron Maxwell forced two fumbles in the first quarter this evening, though Baltimore was able to recover both. In 2016, Maxwell forced four fumbles, a career high and tied for seventh-most in the NFL that season. His four forced fumbles were the most by a Dolphins defensive back in franchise history and the most by an NFL cornerback since Charles Tillman had 10 in 2012.

HOWARD RECORDS HIS FIRST INTERCEPTION OF THE PRESEASON

  • CB Xavien Howard intercepted Ravens QB Ryan Mallett down the field in the first quarter. It was Howard’s first interception of the preseason. A second-year player, Howard recorded one interception last year in the AFC Wild Card game at Pittsburgh.

 TANKERSLEY’S FIRST PICK

  • CB Cordrea Tankersley, a third-round draft pick out of Clemson, recorded his first interception of his young NFL career when he ripped the ball away from Ravens WR Quincy Adeboyejo near the end of the first half.

PERRY SCORES HIS FIRST TOUCHDOWN AS A DOLPHIN

  • RB Senorise Perry got the Dolphins on the board with an 11-yard touchdown run with 13:44 remaining in the second quarter. It was the first touchdown of Perry’s Dolphins career. He rushed three times for 20 yards (6.7 avg.) on the scoring drive. Perry joined the Dolphins’ practice squad on Oct. 12, 2016 before he was signed on Jan. 10, 2017.

UP NEXT: PHILADELPHIA

  • The Dolphins will battle the Eagles next week for their third preseason game. Miami will head up to Philadelphia early, meeting the Eagles for joint practices on Monday and Tuesday. It’s Miami’s first preseason matchup against the Eagles since 1990.

POSTGAME NOTES

MIAMI WINS PRESEASON OPENER

  • Tonight’s 23-20 victory marks the second straight year the Dolphins have won their preseason opener. Miami also won the first game of the 2016 preseason, winning at the N.Y. Giants, 27-10. The Dolphins are now 5-5 in their past 10 preseason openers.

DOUGHTY CONNECTS WITH CARROO FOR TD

  • QB Brandon Doughty connected with WR Leonte Carroo for a 33-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to give Miami a 10-7 lead. It was Doughty’s first touchdown pass as a Dolphin. He played in four preseason games in 2016 but has not appeared in a regular season contest. Carroo caught a 15-yard touchdown in Week 12 vs. San Francisco last year.

FALES HITS STRINGFELLOW FOR 99-YARD TOUCHDOWN

  • QB David Fales hooked up with WR Damore’ea Stringfellow for a 99-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to give the Dolphins a 23-20 lead. The Dolphins have never had a 99-yard touchdown in a regular season game (run or pass). The team’s longest play from scrimmage in the regular season was a 97-yard touchdown run by RB Lamar Miller on Dec. 28, 2014 vs. N.Y. Jets. Stringfellow is a rookie from Ole Miss and this is his first NFL game.

STRINGFELLOW TOPS 100 YARDS

  • WR Damore’ea Stringfellow had two receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown tonight. The last Dolphins player to post a 100-plus receiving yards in a preseason game was WR Brian Manning, who caught 4 passes for 127 yards and 2 TDs against the Denver Broncos in Mexico City on Aug. 4, 1997.

FALES TOSSES TWO TOUCHDOWN PASSES

  • QB David Fales threw two touchdowns tonight, a 17-yard pass to WR Francis Owusu and the 99-yard strike to WR Damore’ea Stringfellow. The last time a Dolphins quarterback threw two touchdowns in a preseason game was Aug. 19, 2016, when QB Ryan Tannehill passed for two scores at Dallas.

FRANKS CONTINUES TO REMAIN HOT

  • K Andrew Franks picked up right where he left off last season, booting a 36-yard field goal in the first quarter. Franks made 11 of his last 13 field goals in the 2016 season, including 2-for-2 in the AFC Wild Card game at Pittsburgh (1/8/17). He also kicked a 55-yard field goal at the end of regulation to tie the game at Buffalo (12/24/16), a game he ultimately won with a 27-yard kick in overtime.
