DOLPHINS TAKE HOLLAND AT NO. 36 OVERALL
  • The Dolphins selected Oregon S Jevon Holland with their first pick in tonight’s second round at No. 36 overall.
  • Holland becomes the second player Miami’s ever selected in that spot, joining WR Fred Solomon, who was the 36th overall pick by Miami in the 1975 draft.
  • At 36th overall, Holland is the highest-drafted safety by Miami since S Jason Allen went to the Dolphins at No. 16 overall in 2006.
  • Holland is just the fourth Oregon Duck selected by Miami in team history.
EICHENBERG IS FIRST NOTRE DAME LINEMAN DRAFTED BY MIAMI SINCE RUDDY
  • With their second-round pick of the evening, Miami selected T Liam Eichenberg at No. 42 overall.
  • Eichenberg joins C Tim Ruddy as the only Notre Dame offensive linemen drafted by the Dolphins. Ruddy was selected in the second round (65th overall) in the 1994 NFL Draft and started 140 games in his 10 seasons (1994-2003) with the Dolphins.
  • He’s the 11th player from Notre Dame drafted by Miami and first since TE Durham Smythe, who was picked in the fourth round (123rd overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

DOLPHINS MOVE UP TO NAB KINDLEY
  • Miami packaged two late-fourth-round picks (136 and 141) to move up to No. 111 to select Georgia G Solomon Kindley.
  • Kindley became the third Dolphins offensive lineman selected in this year’s draft. It’s the most offensive linemen picked by Miami in a single draft since 2008 when the team picked T Jake Long, G Shawn Murphy and G Donald Thomas.
  • Kindley is the ninth Georgia Bulldog taken all-time by the Dolphins and the first since TE Arthur Lynch was a fifth-round pick (155th overall) in 2014.
  • Kindley is the second Georgia offensive lineman to ever be drafted by Miami. The Dolphins also took C Vernon Smith in the 16th round (413th overall) in the 1975 draft.
MIAMI PICKS STROWBRIDGE IN FIFTH ROUND
  • The Dolphins used its first of two fifth-round picks (154th overall) to select DE Jason Strowbridge from North Carolina.
  • Strowbridge becomes just the fourth Tar Heel to ever be selected by the Dolphins.

  • The Dolphins drafted a player from the Naval Academy for the first time in team history, selecting RB Malcolm Perry at No. 246 overall in the seventh round.
  • If Perry plays in a regular-season game, he’ll be the first player from the Naval Academy to ever play for the Dolphins.

  • Miami traded a 2020 first-round pick (26th overall) to Green Bay for a 2020 first-round pick (30th overall) and 2020 fourth-round pick (136th overall).

2020 NFL Draft Notes – Day 2

DOLPHINS SELECT HUNT AT No. 39 OVERALL
  • Miami’s first pick of the night was used to select Louisiana-Lafayette T Robert Hunt. Hunt becomes the second offensive lineman drafted by Miami this weekend, joining USC T Austin Jackson who was picked 18th overall.
  • Offensive line is the most selected position all-time by the Dolphins. Hunt is the 117th offensive lineman taken by Miami.
  • Hunt becomes the first player in Louisiana-Lafayette’s history to be drafted by the Dolphins. If he appears in a game, he will also become the first Ragin’ Cajun to ever play for the Dolphins.
MIAMI PICKS DAVIS AT No. 56
  • Miami used its second second-round pick to select DT Raekwon Davis at No. 56 overall.
  • Davis became the second player from the University of Alabama selected by the Dolphins in this draft, joining QB Tua Tagovailoa (fifth overall). He’s the 12th Alabama player to ever be chosen by Miami.
  • The Dolphins have taken two Alabama players in the same draft once before. In 1980, Miami picked DB Don McNeal in the first round (21st overall) and C Dwight Stephenson in the second round (48th overall). Stephenson went on to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
  • Davis is the third Alabama defensive lineman drafted by the Dolphins and first since 1986.
DOLPHINS GO WITH JONES AT No. 70
  • Miami used its lone third-round pick on Texas S Brandon Jones at No. 70 overall.
  • Jones is only the fifth former Longhorn to ever be chosen by Miami and the highest-picked Texas player in Dolphins history.
  • Jones becomes the 100th defensive back drafted by the Dolphins and the second this year, joining CB Noah Igbinoghene, who was the 30th overall pick of the draft last night.
  • DT Kheeston Randall was the last Texas player drafted by the Dolphins back in 2012. Randall is also the last Texas player to appear in a game for the Dolphins. Jones could become the ninth Longhorn to ever play for Miami.
  • DB Glenn Blackwood is the only other Texas defensive back selected by the Dolphins. Blackwood was chosen in the eighth round (215th overall) of the 1979 NFL draft and played nine seasons (1979-87) with the Dolphins.

  • The Dolphins picked their second Wisconsin player in the 2019 NFL draft when they selected Van Ginkel at No. 151 overall. The Dolphins picked OL Michael Deiter in the third round (78th overall) on Friday.
  • The last time the Dolphins selected two players from the same school in the same draft was 2013, when Miami took LB Jelani Jenkins (104th overall) and RB Mike Gillislee (164th overall) – both from Florida.
  • Ironically, prior to this week, the last time the Dolphins selected a player from Wisconsin was in 2001 when they picked two Badgers – DB Jamar Fletcher (26th overall) and WR Chris Chambers (52nd overall).

2019 NFL Draft Notes – Day 2

DOLPHINS TRADE FOR ROSEN
  • After not making any draft-day trades in 2018, the Dolphins made two on Friday.
    • In the first trade, Miami sent a 2019 second-round pick (48th overall) and a 2019 fourth-round pick (116th overall) to New Orleans for a 2019 second-round pick (62nd overall), a 2019 sixth-round pick (202nd overall) and a 2020 second-round pick.
    • The Dolphins then used the 2019 second-round pick (62nd overall) acquired from New Orleans and sent it, along with a 2020 fifth-round pick, to Arizona in exchange for QB Josh Rosen.
  • According to ESPN, the Dolphins are the first franchise since the AFL/NFL merger in 1970 to acquire a first-round quarterback drafted by another team after just one season.
  • Rosen was the youngest starting quarterback in Cardinals history and became the youngest QB since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger to post a double-digit fourth-quarter comeback victory in the team’s Week 8 victory vs. San Francisco.
  • If Rosen starts a game for the Dolphins, he’ll be the first UCLA quarterback to record a start for the franchise.
DOLPHINS SELECT OL MICHAEL DEITER IN THE THIRD ROUND
  • Deiter is the ninth player in Dolphins history to be drafted from Wisconsin and the first since CB Jamar Fletcher (26th overall) and WR Chris Chambers (52nd overall) were selected in 2001.
  • Deiter is the first Wisconsin player to be selected by the Dolphins in the third round and joins OL Jeff Dellenbach as the only Wisconsin offensive linemen to be chosen by Miami.
  • Deiter was a first-team All-American as a senior in 2018 and a second-team All-American as a junior in 2017. He started a school-record 54 games.

DOLPHINS SELECT DT CHRISTIAN WILKINS IN FIRST ROUND
  • Wilkins became the fourth defensive tackle and the 12th defensive lineman taken in the first round by the Dolphins.
  • The Dolphins have now taken more defensive linemen (12) in the first round of NFL drafts than any other position.
  • Wilkins is the first defensive tackle the Dolphins have selected in the first round since 1996 when the team took Daryl Gardener with the 20th overall pick.

  • Wilkins is the ninth player in Dolphins history to be drafted from Clemson and becomes the first player Miami has ever selected in the first round from the school.
  • Clemson had three players drafted in this year’s first round, tied with Alabama and Mississippi State for the most by any school. All three players were defensive linemen as Wilkins joined DE Clelin Ferrell (4th overall to Oakland) and DT Dexter Lawrence (17th overall to N.Y. Giants).

  • Wilkins won two national championships (2016, 2018) in his four seasons at Clemson. He is the fifth Dolphins draft pick in the past four seasons to win a national title. S Minkah Fitzpatrick won two national championships (2015, 2017 at Alabama) and LB Raekwon McMillan (2014 at Ohio State), CB Cordrea Tankersley (2016 at Clemson) and RB Kenyan Drake (2015 at Alabama) also won national titles in their collegiate careers.
  • Wilkins is the fourth player the Dolphins have selected at No. 13, joining T Laremy Tunsil (2016), RB David Overstreet (1981) and LB A.J. Duhe (1977). Duhe was the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1977 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1984 while Tunsil has started 44 games in his first three NFL seasons.
  • Wilkins joins CB Cordrea Tankersley and TE Dwayne Allen as the third Clemson player on the Dolphins’ roster. Miami drafted Tankersley in the third round (97th overall) in the 2017 NFL draft and signed Allen as a free agent on March 9, 2019.
