Miami Dolphins Sign Wake To Contract Extension

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed defensive end Cameron Wake to a contract extension through the 2018 season.

Wake had a remarkable comeback season in 2016 in which he earned his fifth Pro Bowl selection. Just one season removed from when he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in 2015, Wake totaled 11.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and one interception in 2016. His 11.5 sacks were third in the AFC and tied for sixth in the NFL. Since Wake was inserted in the starting lineup in Week 6 of the 2016 season, he was second in the AFC with 10.5 sacks and helped the Dolphins win nine of their final 11 games. He is one of just three NFL players in the past decade to have a double-digit sack season at age 34 or older.

In his eight NFL seasons, Wake has totaled 81.5 sacks. His sack total is second in NFL history among undrafted players (supplemental draft picks not included) and is second in Dolphins history behind Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor (131.0). Additionally, his 81.5 sacks are the most by any Dolphins player in his first eight seasons in team history.
