Miami Dolphins And Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) Announce Youth Programs Week 4 Award Winners
Miami, FL – The Miami Dolphins and the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) today announced their Week 4 award winners in a program designed to recognize the members of the community who have demonstrated their commitment to being leaders on and off the field.
Each week, the Dolphins identify a high school coach of the week, high school player of the week, youth player of the week and team mom of the week. Award recipients are presented with a plaque on the field during a Dolphins home game at Hard Rock Stadium and receive acknowledgement of their accomplishment in the game program and through the Dolphins’ and RISE’s social media platforms. They also receive tickets to a Miami Dolphins home game, access to the Dolphins/RISE pregame tailgate and a Dolphins/RISE T-shirt. For each home game, the Dolphins identify a team of the week and they will be on the field during the national anthem. The program concludes at the Dolphins-Patriots game on December 11 where the Dolphins will honor yearly award winners in all categories with the exception of the team of the year.
Week 4 Winners:
- High School Coach of the Week: Matt DuBuc from Cardinal Gibbons High School. The Chiefs are off to a 3-0 start this season after defeating Stoneman Douglas 49-0. Cardinal Gibbons is currently ranked No.2 in the state in 5A football.
- High School Player of the Week: Divaad Wilson from Miami Northwestern Senior High School. The 6’0”, 180 pound senior defensive back had four tackles, two interceptions and two pass breakups in a 14-7 win over Booker T. Washington. Divvad is committed to attend the University of Florida in the fall.
- Youth Player of the Week: Eric Cannon from the Palmetto Bay Broncos Junior PeeWee (115s) of the Greater Miami South Florida Pop Warner football league. Cannon had eight carries for 130 yards and three touchdowns and added three receptions in a victory over the Miami Youth Hurricanes.
- Team Mom of the Week: Melissa Dempsey from the Kendall Hammock Warriors 11U of the Miami Xtreme Youth Football League. Dempsey is a first year head team mom, but has been an assistant head team mom for over eight years. In her first season as head team mom, Dempsey has dealt with adversity that comes with the position, but with all the frustrations, she has never complained and deals with all the problems immediately. On top of her head team mom duties, Dempsey also has taken the leadership of managing the concessions stands. Dempsey is one in a million volunteer, who takes on challenges and always has a smile on her face. Her dedication to the Kendall Hammocks Warriors program is priceless.

Miami Dolphins Deliver Backpacks to Partner Schools in Broward
Miami, FL – The Miami Dolphins visited two partner schools in Broward County on Tuesday for their fourth annual Back to School Backpack Event to hand out t-shirts and backpacks filled with school supplies to students. Wide receivers Malcolm Lewis, Rashawn Scott, and Kenny Stills, kicker Cody Parkey and tackle Eric Smith started the morning off at Orange Brook Elementary along with cheerleaders Etta and Tamara and mascot T.D., where they met with 25 select students chosen by their principal based on their hard work in school and need of school supplies.
The players and cheerleaders greeted the kindergartners and first graders with high fives as they came into the room before introducing themselves and passing out the backpacks, which contained notebooks, folders, a ruler, and other items. After taking a group photo, the Dolphins served Papa John’s pizza to the students and sat down with them for lunch and conversation. The students also received coupons for a free frosty compliments of Wendy’s.
“It’s priceless. It’s really good to see the kids and give back to them and see them happy,” said Malcolm Lewis, whose mother works at Orange Brook. “I’m from Miami, so it’s just a blessing to be in a position where you can give back and make these kids’ days. It’s all about just giving back when you can.”
Following lunch and some autographs, the players, cheerleaders, and TD made their way up to Pompano Beach to meet with high schoolers at Blanche Ely High School. The 17 selected students, from 9th-12th grade, also received backpacks, t-shirts and coupons before enjoying pizza, conversation and autographs with the Dolphins.
The event, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Dave & Buster’s, was postponed due to Hurricane Irma.
“This is our fourth year doing this Back to School Backpack Event and it’s always a great success. This year we obviously got pushed back a little bit because of the storm, but we are glad we got to come out to these schools today to meet with these students and put smiles on their faces,” said Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs Jason Jenkins. “We love every chance we get to give back to the South Florida community.”

Miami Dolphins reinstate Timmons
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have reinstated linebacker Lawrence Timmons. The team also waived linebacker Justin March-Lillard.
Timmons joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent from Pittsburgh on March 10, 2017. He was suspended by the club on Sept. 19, 2017. Timmons is third in the NFL with 893 total tackles (616 solo) since 2009, his first full season as a starter in the league. He played 10 seasons with the Steelers (2007-16). Among linebackers in team history, Timmons is second in tackles (952), third in passes defensed (42) and fifth in interceptions (12). He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2014 season.
March-Lillard was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins on Sept. 3, 2017 from Kansas City. He has played in two games with Miami this season and made one assisted special teams stop. March-Lillard appeared in five games for the Chiefs in 2016 and recorded 22 tackles (15 solo). He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on May 11, 2015.

These winners were chosen based off of performances from Sept. 1-3 due to Hurricane Irma.
Each week, the Dolphins will identify a high school coach of the week, high school player of the week, youth player of the week and team mom of the week. Week 3 Winners:
- High School Coach of the Week: Roland Smith from Miami Central Senior High School. The Rockets beat crosstown rival Booker T. Washington 19-17 last week at Traz Powell Stadium. Coach Smith’s team is currently ranked No. 16 in the USA Today Top 25 national high school football rankings.
- High School Player of the Week: Holly Neher from Hollywood Hills High School. The 5’0” junior entered the game in the fourth quarter and completed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Alexander Shelton. With that pass, Neher became the first female quarterback in Florida high school history to throw a touchdown pass in a varsity game.
- Youth Player of the Week: Mike Nozile II from the Miami Shores Spartans 11U of the Miami Xtreme Football League. Nozile Jr. rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown to lead his team to victory over the Dick Conley Steelers.
- Team Mom of the Week: Chiquita Bradwell from the Ft. Lauderdale Hurricane Super Peewee of the Florida Youth Football League. Bradwell is known as a very patient and kind person. The team messages she sends throughout the week give parents time to get organized for practice and games. She also ensures uniforms are cleaned and takes care of the things that might otherwise be forgotten. Everyone believes all Bradwell does for the team is truly amazing.

Miami Dolphins trade for Anthony
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have acquired linebacker Stephone Anthony in a trade with the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a 2018 undisclosed draft pick.
Anthony was a first-round pick (31st overall) by New Orleans in the 2015 NFL draft and started all 16 games as a rookie. He totaled 112 tackles (70 solo), one sack, one interception, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery on his way to being named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team in 2015. Anthony played in 10 games with three starts and totaled 15 tackles (12 solo) in 2016. He played collegiately at Clemson, where he earned first-team All-ACC honors as a senior in 2014.

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed tackle Sam Young and placed center/guard Ted Larsen on injured reserve.
Young played in eight games with one start for the Dolphins in 2016 after the team signed him on Oct. 11, 2016. He was released by Miami on Sept. 2, 2017. Young has also spent time with Jacksonville (2013-15), Buffalo (2011-13) and Dallas (2010). He has played in 66 career games with 14 starts. Young originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (179th overall) in the 2010 NFL draft.
Larsen joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent from Chicago on March 10, 2017. He has played in 102 career games with 65 starts in seven NFL seasons with Chicago (2016), Arizona (2014-15) and Tampa Bay (2010-13). He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (205th overall) by New England in the 2010 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have claimed linebacker Justin March-Lillard off waivers from Kansas City and kicker Cody Parkey off waivers from Cleveland. The team waived linebacker Trevor Reilly and kicker Andrew Franks.
March-Lillard started five games for Kansas City in 2016 and totaled 22 tackles (15 solo) and two passes defensed. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on May 11, 2015. March-Lillard started 35 games at Akron where he was a team captain as a senior in 2014 and earned third-team All-Mid-American Conference honors as a junior in 2013.
Parkey has played in 33 NFL games for two teams, appearing in 19 contests for Philadelphia from 2014-15 and 14 games for Cleveland in 2016. He has converted 55-of-65 field goal attempts (84.6 pct.) and 81-of-82 extra point attempts (98.8 pct.) in his career. Parkey was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2014 season after he made 32-of-36 field goal attempts (88.9 pct.) for the Eagles and set an NFL rookie scoring record with 150 points. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Indianapolis on May 11, 2014. A native of nearby Jupiter, Florida, Parkey attended Jupiter High School before playing collegiately at Auburn.
Reilly played in two games for Miami in 2016 after he was signed off the New England practice squad on Dec. 19, 2016. He has played in 31 career games, appearing in 29 contests with the N.Y. Jets from 2014-15 prior to his stint in Miami. Reilly has 11 career tackles (five solo), one sack and one forced fumble. He originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (233rd overall) by the Jets in the 2014 NFL draft.
Franks played in all 32 games for the Dolphins from 2015-16 and converted 29-of-37 field goal attempts (78.4 pct.) and 74-of-78 extra point attempts (94.9 pct.). In 2016, Franks was 16-of-21 (76.2 pct.) in field goal attempts and totaled 89 points. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on May 8, 2015.
