Stephen Ross Announces Miami Dolphins Foundation Food Relief Program

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross and the Miami Dolphins Foundation announced a multi-million-dollar major-gift commitment through the Miami Dolphins Foundation at providing jobs and nutrition on a sustained and long-term basis through the Miami Dolphins Food Relief Program. The initiative, starting on June 1, will provide a minimum of 1,000 meals prepared by Centerplate, the team’s food, beverage and retail partner, each weekday out of Hard Rock Stadium up to a 12-month period to families in need in Miami Gardens through a voucher system. On Sundays, the Dolphins will work with area churches, local leadership, and community groups to purchase food from local restaurants to provide a minimum of 1,000 meals each Sunday that will be distributed to those dealing with food insecurity. The program will generate jobs and revenue for the local restaurant industry, while employing guest services and security staff at the stadium that have been idled as a result of COVID-19-related event cancellations.

Stephen Ross and the organization will invest $2 million in the Miami Dolphins Foundation Food Relief Program and will work to raise an additional $1 million by matching all dollars raised by the South Florida community and Miami Dolphins fans worldwide for a potential $4 million total impact. Individuals and businesses that wish to participate in the match program can donate online at dolphins.com/meals. All gifts are tax-deductible with 100% of the funds raised directly benefiting food relief. All donors over $50 will receive a special Miami Dolphins FOOTBALL UNITES™ gift from Ross and Vice Chairman and CEO Tom Garfinkel in appreciation of their participation in this matching campaign.

“We are committed to combating food insecurity and helping to provide consistent employment as the first step in rebuilding our community, starting in Miami Gardens,” said Ross. “We are thankful for the strength that our community has shown through this pandemic and it’s our hope that this program will inspire others to give.”

“Unemployment is growing and a lot of people are suffering and need help,” said Garfinkel. “It was important for us to start at home and help the most vulnerable in our community with a long-term commitment; not just a one-time event.”

The Miami Dolphins Foundation Food Relief Program expands the Miami Dolphins efforts to combat food insecurity in South Florida. In March, the organization gave $500,000 to help meet critical needs for elderly and youth in the community. These funds were used to support school meal programs for Broward County Public Schools and Miami-Dade County Public Schools, relief efforts led by churches in Miami Gardens and to bolster programs from Feeding South Florida to provide access to food for underserved populations in the area.

Earlier this month, Ross provided a grant for Miami Dolphins alumni John Offerdahl (Offerdahl’s Off-The-Grill), Kim Bokamper (Bokamper’s Sports Bar & Grill), Bob Brudzinski (Bru’s Room Sports Grill) and the late, legendary Coach Don Shula to provide free meals to first responders, Dolphins FOOTBALL UNITES™ community partners and vulnerable populations who have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Over a three-week period, the restaurants delivered 35,440 meals and Pepsi provided 65,644 bottles of Bolt24.

In addition, Dolphins and Truist as part of its Truist Cares initiative partnered to support local small business and provide meals to the South Florida community as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. More than 2,700 pre-packaged meals were prepared by local food trucks and delivered to Miami Dolphins FOOTBALL UNITES™ community partners over a six-week period.

Miami Dolphins Announce Plans for The Outdoor Theaters at Hard Rock Stadium

Open-Air Theater and Drive-In will Showcase Classic Miami Dolphins Content and Classic Motion Pictures

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced plans for The Outdoor Theaters at Hard Rock stadium, two exciting additions to its sports and entertainment complex with distinct socially distant opportunities. The global entertainment destination will now feature both an open-air and drive-in theater that will showcase classic Miami Dolphins content from the team’s 54-year history, classic motion picture films, host commencement ceremonies and other events. The family friendly experiences will provide a unique environment while staying in accordance with social distance policies. The drive-in events will be held inside of Hard Rock Stadium and accommodate up to 230 cars, while the open-air theater can host small groups for an intimate viewing experience on the complex’s south plaza. “We’ve spent several weeks planning this to be able to provide people with a safe option to go out and enjoy movies, classic Dolphins content, concerts, and celebrate 2020 graduates,” said Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium Vice Chairman and CEO Tom Garfinkel. “It’s a fundamental human need to physically experience and celebrate events and experiences together, and we’re trying to provide options for everyone where they can be safely socially distant and socially present at the same time.”

Earlier this month, Hard Rock Stadium previously announced that the venue committed to become the first public facility to receive GBAC STAR™ accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association. This initiative will serve as the gold standard for facilities to implement cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention work practices to control risks associated with infectious agents.

Hard Rock Stadium has played host to world-class sporting and entertainment events during its recent $775 million renovation including Super Bowl LIV, The Miami Open, College Football Championships, international soccer events, Jazz in the Gardens and Rolling Loud.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have waived running back De’Lance Turner.

Turner joined the Dolphins on Nov. 5, 2019 off Baltimore’s practice squad. He played in eight games and totaled four carries for six yards (1.5 avg.) with the Dolphins last year. He also had three special teams tackles (two solo). Turner originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Baltimore on May 4, 2018.

Miami will open its preseason schedule on Friday, Aug. 14 when they travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. This will be the 18th preseason meeting between the two teams and the seventh year in a row the Dolphins and Falcons have met in the exhibition campaign. Miami holds a 10-8 edge in the all-time preseason series and has won the past two preseason contests against the Falcons.

The Dolphins will play at Hard Rock Stadium for the first time this season on Thursday, Aug. 20, when they host the Philadelphia Eagles. Miami last played Philadelphia in the preseason in 2017, dropping a road contest. However, the Dolphins defeated the Eagles last year in a regular-season home game on Dec. 1, 2019. This will be the 11th preseason game between the two teams and the all-time series is tied at five games apiece.

Miami returns to Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 27 against the Detroit Lions. The Dolphins are 6-1 all-time in preseason games against the Lions but the two teams haven’t met in the exhibition season since 1999. Miami took the last regular-season matchup against the Lions, a 32-21 victory on Oct. 21, 2018.

The preseason concludes on Thursday, Sept. 3 when Miami plays at New Orleans. The Dolphins also concluded the 2019 preseason in New Orleans with a 16-13 win over the Saints. Miami is 15-7 all-time against the Saints in preseason contests.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed third-round safety Brandon Jones.

Jones was Miami’s third-round pick (70th overall) in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Texas, where he played in 46 career games with 35 starts. Jones started 12 games as a team captain during his senior season in 2019, totaling 86 tackles (64 solo), one sack, two interceptions, six passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors as a junior in 2018.

Miami Dolphins sign 4 draft picks

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed the following four draft picks: first-round quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, second-round defensive tackle Raekwon Davis, fifth-round defensive end Curtis Weaver and sixth-round long snapper Blake Ferguson.

Tagovailoa was the fifth overall pick by Miami in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a three-year letterman (2017-19) and two-year starter at Alabama, where he set a school record with 87 career passing touchdowns. His 7,442 career passing yards were third in school history. As a junior in 2019, he completed 180-of-252 passes (71.4 pct.) for 2,840 yards and 33 touchdowns, earning second-team All-SEC honors. Tagovailoa was a consensus All-American as a sophomore in 2018, setting single-season school records in touchdown passes (43) and passing yards (3,966).

Davis was the 56th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft by Miami. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Alabama, where he played in 48 career games with 32 starts. Davis totaled 175 tackles (67 solo), 11.5 sacks, one interception, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. As a senior in 2019, Davis earned second-team All-American and second-team All-SEC honors.

Weaver was the 164th overall pick by Miami in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a three-year letterman (2017-19) and two-year starter at Boise State, where he played in 41 games with 22 starts. He finished his collegiate career as the Mountain West Conference’s all-time leader in career sacks with 34. Those 34 sacks rank second in Boise State history. He was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year after posting 13.5 sacks as a junior in 2019.

Ferguson was the 185th overall pick by Miami in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) at LSU, where he played in 53 consecutive games as the team’s primary long snapper. He became the first player in LSU history whose primary position was long snapper to be named a permanent team captain. Ferguson played in all 15 games as a senior in 2019 and helped the school capture the College Football Playoff National Championship. He earned first-team All-American honors at long snapper as a junior in 2018.

Miami Dolphins announce 2020 schedule

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced their 2020 schedule. The team will kick off the 2020 campaign at the New England Patriots on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. Miami will open its 2020 home schedule on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. when the Buffalo Bills come to Hard Rock Stadium. It’ll mark the first time since 2014 the Dolphins have opened the season with back-to-back divisional opponents.

The Dolphins will take on an impressive slate of opponents as they’ll match up against both participants in Super Bowl LIV with a trip to San Francisco on Oct. 11 and a home date against the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 13. In fact, the Dolphins will play five games against the AFC and NFC champions from the past two seasons as they’ll also play the New England Patriots twice and host the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 1. Miami will play the last seven AFC champions over the course of the year, with the aforementioned games against New England and Kansas City as well as a trip to Denver on Oct. 18.

Miami’s home schedule is loaded with quality opponents as the Dolphins will take on the Chiefs, Patriots and Rams, each of whom has played in a Super Bowl in the past two seasons. Together, those three teams have combined to go 69-27 (.719) since 2018. Among other intriguing home opponents for the Dolphins are division rivals Buffalo and the New York Jets, the Russell Wilson-led Seattle Seahawks and two teams featuring top 10 rookie quarterbacks with Joe Burrow for Cincinnati and Justin Herbert for the Los Angeles Chargers.

With the AFC East matching up against the AFC West and NFC West this year, the Dolphins will play four games in the Mountain and Pacific time zones this season. In total, the Dolphins are scheduled to travel 24,424 miles roundtrip. That mark is just shy of the 25,516 miles traveled in 2016, which is the team-record for an entirely domestic regular-season schedule. Miami’s 24,424 miles will be the sixth-most in the league in 2020 and the second-most of any team not in the Pacific time zone (all mileage calculated roundtrip from each stadium with the assumption a team returns home after each game).

The Dolphins also announced their 2020 preseason schedule. Miami will kick off its preseason at Atlanta. That game will take place between Aug. 13-17. The Dolphins’ first appearance at Hard Rock Stadium will come in a preseason matchup with Philadelphia that will be held between Aug. 20-24. Miami will also host Detroit (Aug. 27-30) and travel to New Orleans (Sept. 3-4) in the preseason. Specific dates and times for preseason games will be announced at a later date.

“Flexible scheduling” will be used in Weeks 11-17. Additionally, in Weeks 5-10, flexible scheduling may be used in no more than two weeks. In Weeks 5-16, the schedule lists the games tentatively set for Sunday Night Football on NBC. Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game would be moved to an afternoon start time.

Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday or Monday nights.

**In each of Weeks 15 and 16, up to three of five designated matchups will be played on Saturday with the remainder to be played on Sunday. Specific dates and start times for such designated Week 15 and Week 16 matchups will be determined and announced no later than four weeks prior to game day.

Miami Dolphins sign Strowbridge

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed fifth-round defensive end Jason Strowbridge.

Strowbridge was the first of Miami’s two fifth-round picks at No. 154 overall. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at North Carolina, where he played in 44 games with 33 starts. Strowbridge totaled 126 career tackles (62 solo) with 11.5 sacks, three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He earned third-team All-ACC honors as a senior in 2019. A native of nearby Deerfield Beach, Fla., Strowbridge prepped at Deerfield Beach High School.
