Miami Dolphins make practice squad moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed tackle Kendall Lamm to the practice squad and restored wide receiver Freddie Swain to the practice squad. The team also released offensive lineman Grant Hermanns and wide receiver Calvin Jackson from the practice squad.

Hermanns was signed to Miami’s practice squad on Oct. 26, 2022 after spending the past two seasons on the N.Y. Jets’ practice squad. He was elevated three times by the Jets earlier this season, appearing in two games. Hermanns originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Jets on May 2, 2021. He was a four-year starter (2017-20) at Purdue.

Jackson was signed to Miami’s practice squad on Oct. 25, 2022. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent by the N.Y. Jets on May 9, 2022 and spent the offseason program and training camp with them. Jackson was a second-team All-Pac 12 selection at Washington State in 2021. He is the son of former Dolphins safety Calvin Jackson, who played in 75 games with 57 starts in six seasons (1994-99) with the team. A Fort Lauderdale native, Jackson played high school football at Coral Springs Charter.

Lamm has played seven NFL seasons for three different franchises – Houston (2015-18), Cleveland (2019-20) and Tennessee (2021). He spent 2022 training camp with Detroit. Lamm has played in 86 career games with 28 starts. He’s also played in seven postseason games with one start as his teams have made the playoffs in five of his seven NFL seasons. Lamm played collegiately at Appalachian State and originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Houston on May 8, 2015.

Swain has been on Miami’s practice squad since Sept. 2, 2022 but was moved to the injured list on Oct. 25, 2022. He entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (214th overall) by Seattle in the 2020 NFL Draft. He played in all 33 games with nine starts over the past two seasons (2020-21) with the Seahawks, totaling 38 receptions for 502 yards (13.2 avg.) and five carries for 32 yards (6.4 avg.). Swain also returned 22 punts for 189 yards (8.6 avg.) and six kickoffs for 137 yards (22.8 avg.). He played collegiately at Florida.

Miami Dolphins sign Zimmer

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed defensive tackle Justin Zimmer.

Zimmer has played in 21 NFL games over four seasons with Atlanta (2018), Cleveland (2019) and Buffalo (2020-21). He’s totaled 34 tackles (17 solo), 2.0 sacks and one forced fumble. He spent several weeks this season on Buffalo’s practice squad. Zimmer originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Buffalo on May 2, 2016. He played collegiately at Ferris State, where he was a teammate of fellow Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler.

Miami Dolphins sign McIntosh to practice squad

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed defensive tackle R.J. McIntosh to the practice squad.

McIntosh spent three seasons (2018-20) with the N.Y. Giants, playing 18 games and recording 18 tackles (10 solo) and 2.0 sacks. He spent part of the 2021 season on Green Bay’s practice squad and was with Indianapolis during the 2022 training camp. McIntosh originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (139th overall) by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft. A Fort Lauderdale native, McIntosh played at Cardinal Gibbons High School before a collegiate career at the University of Miami.

Miami Dolphins sign Scarlett to practice squad

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed linebacker Brennan Scarlett to the practice squad.

Scarlett spent the 2021 season with the Dolphins, playing in 13 games with four starts. He totaled 16 tackles (six solo) and one pass defensed along with three special teams tackles last season. Scarlett spent his first five NFL seasons (2016-20) with Houston and has appeared in a total of 69 career games with 20 starts. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Houston on May 6, 2016 and played collegiately at Stanford.

Miami Dolphins place Ogbah on IR

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah on injured reserve.

Ogbah joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent in 2020 and has played in 42 games with 26 starts since then, totaling 95 tackles (59 solo), 19.0 sacks, 17 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He led the Dolphins in sacks in each of the past two seasons (2020-21). Ogbah also spent three seasons (2016-18) with Cleveland and one (2019) with Kansas City, winning Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (32nd overall) by Cleveland in the 2016 NFL Draft after playing collegiately at Oklahoma State.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed safety Verone McKinley III to the active roster and elevated tackle Kion Smith to the active roster for Sunday’s game.

McKinley has played in two games with one start this season, totaling two solo tackles as a practice squad elevation. He first signed with Miami as an undrafted college free agent on May 13, 2022 and has spent the season on the practice squad. McKinley was a three-year starter (2019-21) at Oregon and earned first-team All-American and first-team All-Pac 12 honors as a junior in 2021. He started all 14 games that season, recording 77 tackles (44 solo), six interceptions, 12 passes defensed and one forced fumble. In McKinley’s collegiate career, he recorded 11 interceptions in 38 games.

Smith has spent the past two seasons on Miami’s practice squad after he was signed on Sept. 2, 2021. He was elevated twice this season – vs. Minnesota in Week 6 and at Chicago in Week 9 – but did not appear in either contest. Smith spent the 2021 offseason and training camp with Atlanta after originally signing with the Falcons as an undrafted college free agent on May 14, 2021. He was a three-year starter (2016-17, 2019) at Fayetteville State, where he earned first-team All-CIAA honors in 2019.

Miami Dolphins make practice squad moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed fullback Jake Bargas to the practice squad and released defensive end Big Kat Bryant from the practice squad.

Bargas originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Minnesota on April 27, 2020. He spent several stints on the Vikings practice squad and appeared in two games, one each in 2020 and 2021. He split time during the 2022 training camp with Chicago and Minnesota. Bargas played collegiately at North Carolina where he played tight end. A Boca Raton, Florida native, he played high school football at Saint Andrew’s School.

Bryant has had two stints on Miami’s practice squad this season. He originally entered the league as an undrafted college free agent with Dallas on May 13, 2022. Bryant finished his collegiate career at Central Florida, where he earned first-team All-AAC honors in 2021 and led the team with six sacks. Prior to that, he played at Auburn, where he was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2020.

Miami Dolphins make elevation for Sunday’s game

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have elevated tackle Kion Smith to the active roster for Sunday’s game.

Smith has spent the past two seasons on Miami’s practice squad after he was signed on Sept. 2, 2021. He was elevated for the Week 6 game vs. Minnesota and was active but did not appear in the contest. Smith spent the 2021 offseason and training camp with Atlanta after originally signing with the Falcons as an undrafted college free agent on May 14, 2021. He was a three-year starter (2016-17, 2019) at Fayetteville State, where he earned first-team All-CIAA honors in 2019.
