Miami Dolphins waive Jordan

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have waived/failed physical defensive end Dion Jordan.

Jordan played in 26 games with one start for the Dolphins after he was selected No. 3 overall by the team in the 2013 NFL draft. He most recently played in 2014, where he appeared in 10 games with 1 start and made 13 solo tackles with one sack and one pass defensed. Jordan spent the entire 2015 season on the reserve/suspended list and the entire 2016 season on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Miami Dolphins sign McDonald

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed safety T.J. McDonald as an unrestricted free agent from the Los Angeles Rams.

McDonald has played four NFL seasons, all with the Rams, and started 53 games. He has career totals of 281 tackles (216 solo), five sacks, four interceptions, 17 passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. McDonald all 16 games in 2016 and posted 62 tackles (49 solo), one sack, two interceptions and six passes defensed. His two interceptions were a career high and his six passes defensed matched a career high. McDonald originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick (71st overall) by the Rams in the 2013 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins Make Roster Moves

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed tackle Avery Young to a free agent contract and waived/non-football injury cornerback Daniel Davie.

Young originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the New Orleans Saints on May 6, 2016 and spent the 2016 season on the reserve/non-football injury list. He played in 37 games with 36 starts at Auburn, where he played left guard, right guard and right tackle, earning third-team All-SEC honors as a senior in 2015. Young grew up in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and played high school football at Palm Beach Gardens High School.

Davie was signed by the Dolphins to a reserve/futures contract on Jan. 10, 2017. He began his NFL career as an undrafted college free agent with the Indianapolis Colts on May 2, 2016, but was waived on July 26, 2016. The following day he was awarded off waivers to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before he was again waived on Aug. 28, 2016. Davie played collegiately at Nebraska where he was a four-year letterman (2012-15). He started all 13 games as a junior in 2014 and recorded 41 tackles (25 solo), two interceptions and five pass breakups.

MIAMI (March 21, 2017) – Relevent Sports, a division of RSE Ventures, today announced that four-time defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain F.C. and five-time defending Serie A champions Juventus F.C. will match up at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fl., on Wednesday, July 26 as part of the 2017 International Champions Cup presented by Heineken. The match is set to kick off at 8:30PM ET on ESPN2 and ESPNews.

Both Paris Saint-Germain F.C. and Juventus F.C. rank among the leaders in their respective domestic leagues. Paris Saint-Germain F.C. features a dynamic mix of young talent and veteran leadership. New acquisition Julian Draxler joined an already lethal attack lead by Ligue 1’s current leading goal scorer and Uruguayan national Edinson Cavani. Juventus F.C. continues their dominance in Serie A as they chase an astounding sixth consecutive league championship. The club features a strong defensive unit which begins with Italian goalkeeper and 16-year veteran of the club, Gianluigi “Gigi” Buffon.

Hard Rock Stadium returns as a venue for the ICC after hosting the championship match in each of the first two years of the tournament. The renovations to Hard Rock Stadium have made it possible to host the highest caliber of soccer competition while serving as the home of the Miami Dolphins. The venue also serves as home to the University of Miami football team, Orange Bowl, Super Bowl LIV, the College Football Playoff Semifinals and a host of world class events. This match will be the first of two hosted by Hard Rock Stadium as part of the 2017 International Champions Cup presented by Heineken, with El Clasico Miami featuring Real Madrid C.F. and FC Barcelona to take place three days later.

Tickets for the Paris Saint-Germain F.C. v. Juventus F.C. matchup at Hard Rock Stadium will go on sale to the general public beginning Tuesday, April 4. The 2017 International Champions Cup presented by Heineken will run from July 19 – 30 and feature 12 matches played across 11 cities throughout the United States. In total, eight teams from around the globe, including England (Manchester United F.C., Manchester City F.C., Tottenham Hotspur F.C.), Italy (Juventus F.C., AS Roma), France (Paris Saint-Germain F.C.) and Spain (FC Barcelona, Real Madrid C.F.) will compete in this year’s tournament. Each team will play three contests and the club with the most points at the end of the tournament will be crowned champion. Each win in regulation will result in three points and a tie will go straight to a shootout; the winning team in a shootout will receive two points and the losing team will receive one.

Founded in 1970, the club is one of the most successful in French history, having won ten French Cups and Ligue 1 six times, including each of the previous four seasons. Miami Dolphins sign Alonso to contract extension

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed linebacker Kiko Alonso to a contract extension through the 2020 season.

Alonso started 15 games in 2016 and posted a team-high 115 tackles (69 solo). His 115 tackles were ninth in the AFC. He also tallied two interceptions, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries. His four fumble recoveries were tied for the league lead. Alonso was traded to the Dolphins on March 9, 2016 from Philadelphia.

Alonso had played for two teams in his four-year NFL career prior to joining the Dolphins. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (46th overall) by the Buffalo Bills in the 2013 NFL draft and was the Pro Football Writers Association NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He missed the entire 2014 season due to injury before he was traded to the Eagles in 2015. During his career, Alonso has played in 42 games with 32 starts, 317 tackles (186 solo), two sacks, seven interceptions, nine passes defensed, two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

Miami Dolphins re-sign Bushrod

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have re-signed guard/tackle Jermon Bushrod.

Bushrod started all 16 games at right guard for the Dolphins in 2016 and helped block for running back Jay Ajayi, who rushed for 1,272 yards, the third-most in a single season in Dolphins history. Bushrod was part of a unit that protected Ryan Tannehill, who posted career highs in both passer rating (93.5) and yards per attempt (7.7). Previously, the 10-year NFL veteran played for the New Orleans Saints (2007-12) and Chicago Bears (2013-15). Bushrod won Super Bowl XLIV with the Saints following the 2009 season and was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (125th overall) by the Saints in the 2007 NFL draft.

Famed Clubs to Meet on July 29, 2017 for the First-Ever El Clásico in the United States

MIAMI (March 10, 2017) – Relevent Sports announced today that defending La Liga champion FC Barcelona and defending UEFA Champions League winner Real Madrid C.F. will meet on July 29, 2017 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., as part of the 2017 International Champions Cup presented by Heineken.

El Clásico Miami will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at 7:30PM ET. The International Champions Cup was launched by Stephen Ross and Matt Higgins in 2013 with the creation of Relevent Sports, led by Charlie Stillitano and Jon Sheiman. El Clásico Miami will mark the first-ever match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid C.F. to take place in North America. Hailed as one of sport’s all-time greatest rivalries, the current rosters for each club feature some of the best players in the world. Real Madrid C.F. is anchored by recently crowned FIFA Men’s Player of the Year and Ballon D’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, alongside Welsh superstar Gareth Bale, while perennial world-class Argentinean national, Lionel Messi, and famed Brazilian Neymar lead FC Barcelona.

Real Madrid C.F. and FC Barcelona both return to the ICC with the goal of adding another title to their already world-class resumes. Real Madrid C.F. will be making a record fifth appearance in the ICC, having played in every year of the tournament’s history. Real Madrid C.F. returns to Miami for a second time as part of the ICC after defeating Chelsea F.C. to win the inaugural tournament in 2013 in front of a crowd of 67,273 attendees, one of the largest for a soccer match in the venue’s history. They also were crowned champions of the first-ever ICC China and ICC Australia which took place in 2015.

FC Barcelona makes its third appearance in the ICC after appearing in both the 2015 and 2016 tournaments. Their 2016 tournament included two wins and a finale highlighted by the second largest crowd in Wembley Stadium history (89,845) to watch them take on Liverpool F.C.

El Clásico Miami will be held at the newly renovated Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., the first soccer event to take place since the stadium’s latest renovations. Hard Rock Stadium returns as a venue for the ICC after hosting the championship match in each of the first two years of the tournament. The renovations to Hard Rock Stadium have made it possible to host the highest caliber of soccer competition while serving as the home of the Miami Dolphins. The venue also serves as home to the University of Miami football team, Orange Bowl, Super Bowl LIV, the College Football Playoff Semifinals and a host of world class events. Hard Rock Stadium will host an additional match on Wednesday, July 26 as part of the 2017 International Champions Cup presented by Heineken. Further details will be announced on March 21.

As part of this momentous event, the ICC and El Clásico Miami management team will develop a program of exciting events leading up to the match including concerts, brand activations, team pep rallies, art activations, and more which will be hosted in and around Hard Rock Stadium as part of an immersive experience site that will be available to fans from Tuesday to Sunday. Additionally, El Clásico Miami week will provide an opportunity for fans to experience the culture of Miami by creating events around Miami Beach, Wynwood and Bayfront Park. The week will be filled with concerts, beach parties and art activations that create a spectacle of events around the match.

Miami Dolphins sign Timmons and Allen

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed Pro Bowl linebacker Lawrence Timmons and safety Nate Allen as unrestricted free agents.

Timmons has played in 158 games with 126 starts in 10 seasons with the Steelers (2007-16). He earned second-team All-Pro honors and was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2014 season in which he totaled 132 tackles (87 solo) and two sacks. In his career, Timmons has tallied 952 tackles (652 solo) with 35.5 sacks, 12 interceptions, 42 passes defensed, 13 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. He has played in 14 career postseason games, including two Super Bowls, and was a member of Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl XLIII championship.

Timmons has active streaks of 120 consecutive games played and 101 starts, which are the longest active streaks in the NFL among linebackers. In 2016, he led the Steelers defense with 114 total tackles (78 solo) to go along with 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, a forced fumble and five passes defensed.

Allen has played seven NFL seasons, beginning his career with the Philadelphia Eagles (2010-14) before playing the past two years with the Raiders (2015-16). In 2016, he played in 14 games with four starts and totaled 26 tackles (20 solo), two interceptions and three passes defensed. He has played in 93 career games with 76 starts and has career totals of 355 tackles (279 solo), four sacks, 13 interceptions, 34 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Allen originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (37th overall) by the Eagles in the 2010 NFL draft.
