Dolphins Challenge Cancer Announces Record Breaking $6.3 Million Raised for DCC XI, Bringing 11-Year Total to $45.5M Raised in Support of Life-Saving Cancer Research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced the Dolphins Challenge Cancer XI (DCC XI) raised a record breaking $6.3M in support of funding innovative cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, a part of UHealth – the University of Miami Health System, bringing the event’s eleven-year total to more than $45.5M.
Following a $75M commitment to Sylvester in November 2020, the Dolphins hosted DCC XI as the first event to take place both virtually and in-person gaining the support of more than 3,390 participants on Saturday, April 10, 2021. As the organization continues its efforts towards fulfilling its $75M commitment, the largest known philanthropic pledge in sports, the DCC announced it will host the DCC XII on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022.
“The contributions from DCC XI are a testament to the dedication of our participants, partners and over 30,000 individual donors that joined us through the challenges of this pandemic to raise a record-breaking $6.3M to fund life-saving cancer treatments and research at Sylvester,” Miami Dolphins Foundation Executive Director Jesse Marks said. “The Miami Dolphins are honored to have hosted yet another successful DCC and we look forward to seeing the South Florida community again for DCC XII at Hard Rock Stadium on February 26, 2022.”
“We are extremely appreciative of the incredible commitment shown by all of the DCC participants, as well as our sponsors and of course, the Miami Dolphins,” Sylvester Director and DCC XI 100 Mile Ride Participant Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., said. “The consistent DCC funding continues to fuel our efforts to develop new and better therapies for our patients, and to continue to recruit the best and brightest physicians and scientists to make those discoveries.”
Leading into preparations to host the organization’s 12th edition of the popular community event, the DCC has also appointed Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications & Community Affairs Jason Jenkins to serve as the Board of Directors Chair.
The DCC donates 100 percent of participant-raised funds to cancer research at Sylvester, an effort made possible through the support of partners including AutoNation DRV PNK, Harcourt M. & Virginia W. Sylvester Foundation, Moss Construction and The Lennar Foundation.
The Dolphins Challenge Cancer (DCC) was founded in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins organization as the signature initiative of the Foundation’s health impact area and has become the largest fundraising event in the NFL. Miami Dolphins Announce Football UNITES™ Cultural Tours presented by Baptist Health in Collaboration with Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and HistoryMiami Museum
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins in collaboration with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) and HistoryMiami Museum will host its third series of the Football UNITES™ Cultural Tours presented by Baptist Health. With four tours staring June 24 and ending July 14, Football UNITES™ Cultural Tours engage diverse groups to improve relationships, foster understanding and provide opportunities to experience the culture of South Florida.
“We are excited for the return of the Football UNITES™ Cultural Tours to celebrate and highlight cultures that are authentic to South Florida,” said Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications & Community Affairs Jason Jenkins. “With the support of Baptist Health, GMCVB and HistoryMiami Museum, we look forward to creating memorable and impactful experiences that we hope will promote engagements that are respectful, inclusive and connects our community.”
Participating groups will experience HistoryMiami Museum, highlighting the Love is Love exhibit and other culturally significant historical landmarks, the City of Miami Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum, Little Haiti and Little Havana. These groups include the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project, AQUA Foundation for Women, the Asian American Advisory, Board Be Strong International, Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami, Breakthrough Miami, City of Miami Gardens Police Department, Islamic Center of Greater Miami, Israeli Consulate, Mexican American Council, the Mission Continues, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement (NOBLE), National Voices for Equality, Education and Enlightenment (NVEEE), the North Miami Beach Police Athletic League and Special Olympics of Florida.
“We are so proud to once again be partnering with the Miami Dolphins on an initiative that highlights the unique sights, sounds and flavors of Miami’s multicultural neighborhoods,” said GMCVB Vice President of Multicultural Tourism & Development Connie Kinnard. “The GMCVB leads year-round multicultural efforts that support small businesses and artistic organizations by promoting our heritage communities. The Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ Cultural Tours enhance those efforts directly exposing participants to the unique experiences and rich history of Miami.”
“Through City Tours, we work to provide a deeper understanding of Miami’s communities by telling the stories of Miami and creating a platform with which community members may share their own,” said HistoryMiami Museum City Tours Manager Hana Squires. “In sharing our programming with the Football UNITES™ Cultural Tours, we hope this effort will reveal meaning and develop relationships between our tour participants, the people and the history of our different communities and sites.”

Miami Dolphins make roster moves
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have signed offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor and waived tackle Timon Parris.
Eluemunor has played in 39 NFL games with 11 starts for New England (2019-20) and Baltimore (2017-18). He played in 12 games with eight starts for the Patriots in 2020 and was called for just one penalty. Eluemunor originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (159th overall) by Baltimore in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Parris joined the Dolphins on May 20, 2021. He’s played in four career games, all with Washington from 2018-19. During the 2020 season, Parris spent time on Washington and Cleveland’s practice squads. He originally entered the NFL with Washington as an undrafted college free agent on May 1, 2018.

Miami Dolphins sign Baker to contract extension
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed linebacker Jerome Baker to a contract extension through the 2024 season.
Baker has played in 48 games with 37 starts in three seasons (2018-20) with the Dolphins. He’s totaled 311 career tackles (199 solo), 11.5 sacks, two interceptions, 10 passes defensed and four forced fumbles. Baker’s 311 tackles are sixth among all players selected in the 2018 draft class, and all five players with more tackles than Baker were chosen prior to him. He originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick (73rd overall) by Miami in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins sign Phillips
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have signed linebacker Jaelan Phillips. He was selected in the first round (18th overall) by Miami in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Phillips started 10 games for the University of Miami in the 2021 season, totaling 45 tackles (21 solo), eight sacks, one interception and four passes defensed. He earned first-team All-American and second-team All-ACC honors as a junior in 2020. Phillips also played two seasons (2017-18) at UCLA before transferring to Miami.

Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ presented by Baptist Health Partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County to Sponsor BIGPride
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ presented by Baptist Health program has announced an enhanced partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Broward County through BIGPride. BBBS of Broward County launched BIGPride to reach the specific needs and vulnerabilities of the LGBTQ+ youth. The initiative strengthens LGBTQ+ mentorship relationships and provides a safe space for mentees to explore issues regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.
“We are excited to support BIGPride as part of our organization’s mission to create a more inclusive South Florida through our Football UNITES™ program,” Miami Dolphins Senior Director of Community Relations & Youth Programs RaShauna Hamilton said. “We work with programs like BIGPride because we understand the need and the importance of mentorship as a resource to reach your full potential.”
“Through the years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward has been privileged to see, firsthand, the genuine care and commitment of the Miami Dolphins organization toward the community and the social challenges it faces. In the name of all the LGBTQ+ youth we serve through BIGPride we are thrilled and honored to count on Football UNITES™ support of this program,” Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County President & CEO Malena Méndez said.
This announcement is in addition to a series of LGBTQ+ initiatives by Football UNITES™ presented by Baptist Health prior to and during Pride Month. Over the last 12 months, the Dolphins worked with local LGBTQ+ restaurants and organizations to purchase meals and provide to those in need during the pandemic. In addition, the Dolphins held a special showing of “Moonlight” with proceeds going to two local LGBTQ+ community groups. The organization also provided staff and community partners with shirts, stickers and collaborated with SAVE to include a Pride Month informational card. Additionally, the team will sponsor youth from BIGPride to participate in the Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, June 19.
BIGPride joins Football UNITES™ presented by Baptist Health, as part of the program’s continued efforts to work with diverse groups to improve relationships, foster understanding and embrace the culture of South Florida joining partners that include 4Ward Miami, Aids Healthcare Foundation, Aqua Foundation for Women, Arianna’s Center, Equality Florida, Hialeah Pride, Miami Beach Pride, NVEEE, Pridelines, Safe Schools South Florida, SAVE, South Florida Flag Football League, and Stonewall National Museum & Archives.
These activities align with the Huddle for the Holidays initiative in partnership with Miami Dolphins Football UNITES™ presented by Baptist Health. The organization believes in the importance of celebrating and highlighting the different cultural intersections of race, gender, sexual orientation, identities, abilities, and faith.
