Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed linebacker Jerome Baker and defensive tackle Zach Sieler on the reserve/COVID-19* list.

Baker was Miami’s third-round pick (73rd overall) in the 2018 NFL draft. He’s played in all 32 games over his two-year career with 26 starts. Baker has totaled 200 tackles (130 solo), 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, seven passes defensed and two forced fumbles in his NFL career. His 200 career stops are seventh among all players selected in the 2018 draft class and he served as a team captain for the Dolphins during the 2019 season.

Sieler was awarded off waivers to Miami on Dec. 5, 2019 and played in three games with one start for Miami last year. He totaled eight tackles (three solo), one sack and two passes defensed with the Dolphins. Sieler also spent time with Baltimore in 2018 and 2019. He originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (238th overall) by Baltimore in the 2018 NFL draft.

*This new reserve list category was created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, their club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Per agreed upon NFL-NFLPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on a player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Clubs may not disclose whether a player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have claimed defensive tackle Ray Smith off waivers from San Francisco. The team also waived cornerback Ryan Lewis and activated Benito Jones off the reserve/COVID-19* list.

Smith spent the offseason with San Francisco after spending stints on Detroit and San Francisco’s practice squads in 2019. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Detroit on May 10, 2019. Smith was a four-year letterman (2015-18) at Boston College, where he played in 40 career games and totaled 138 tackles (54 solo), 1.5 sacks, one interception and eight passes defensed.

Lewis was awarded to the Dolphins off waivers on Oct. 15, 2019. He played in eight games with three starts for Miami in 2019, totaling 24 tackles (19 solo), one interception and five passes defensed. Lewis also spent time with Philadelphia (2019), Indianapolis (2019), Buffalo (2018-19), New England (2017-18) and Arizona (2017). He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Arizona on May 12, 2017.

Jones was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on April 29, 2020. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Mississippi. Jones played in all 48 games of his collegiate career with 36 starts. As a senior in 2019, he totaled 30 tackles (19 solo) and 5.5 sacks, earning second-team All-SEC honors.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed cornerback Xavien Howard on the active/physically unable to perform list and linebacker Calvin Munson on the active/non-football injury list.

Howard has played in 40 games with 39 starts in four seasons (2016-19) with the Dolphins. He has 140 tackles (108 solo), one sack, 12 interceptions, 35 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in his career. Howard was named the Dan Marino Team MVP in 2018 after tying for the NFL lead with seven interceptions. He also earned a Pro Bowl selection that season. Howard originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (38th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2016 NFL draft.

Munson joined the Dolphins on Dec. 17, 2019. He played in two games for the Dolphins last year, totaling seven tackles (five solo). Munson also had stints with New England (2018-19) and the N.Y. Giants (2017-18). He played in 14 games with five starts as a rookie with the Giants in 2017. Munson originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Giants on May 12, 2017.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they were awarded cornerback Javaris Davis from Kansas City and have waived/non-football injury tight end Michael Roberts. The Dolphins also placed the following three players on the reserve/COVID-19* list: long snapper Blake Ferguson, defensive tackle Benito Jones and cornerback Cordrea Tankersley.

Davis originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on April 30, 2020. Davis was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Auburn, where he played in 49 career games with 35 starts. He totaled 150 tackles (115 solo), eight interceptions, 32 passes defensed and one forced fumble in his career.

Roberts signed with the Dolphins on Feb. 9, 2020. He spent two seasons (2017-18) in Detroit, where he played 23 games with five starts. Roberts had 13 receptions for 146 yards (11.2 avg.) and three touchdowns. Roberts originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (127th overall) by Detroit in the 2017 NFL draft.

Ferguson was a sixth-round pick (185th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) at LSU, where he played in 53 consecutive games and became the first long snapper in school history to be named a permanent team captain. As a senior in 2019, Ferguson helped his team win the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Jones was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on April 29, 2020. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Mississippi. Jones played in all 48 games of his collegiate career with 36 starts. As a senior in 2019, he totaled 30 tackles (19 solo) and 5.5 sacks, earning second-team All-SEC honors.

Tankersley has played in 17 games with 11 starts for the Dolphins since joining the team as a third-round pick (97th overall) in the 2017 NFL draft. As a rookie in 2017, Tankersley started 11 games, recording 31 tackles (24 solo) and seven passes defensed. He was a four-year letterman (2013-16) and two-year starter at Clemson, where he earned first-team All-American honors as a senior in 2016.

Miami Dolphins acquire Shaheen

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have acquired tight end Adam Shaheen from Chicago in exchange for a conditional 2021 seventh-round pick.

Shaheen played in 27 games with 13 starts over the past three seasons (2017-19) with the Bears. He totaled 26 receptions for 249 yards (9.6 avg.) and four touchdowns. Shaheen originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (45th overall) by Chicago in the 2017 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have waived linebacker Trent Harris and defensive end Avery Moss.

Harris was awarded off waivers to Miami on Sept. 1, 2019 and played in 11 games with three starts last year. He totaled 22 tackles (16 solo), 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble in the first action of his career. He spent the 2018 season on New England’s practice squad after originally signing with the Patriots as an undrafted college free agent on May 11, 2018. Harris played collegiately at the University of Miami.

Moss was awarded off waivers to Miami on Sept. 1, 2019 and played in 11 games with eight starts last year. He totaled 25 tackles (11 solo) and one forced fumble. Moss spent the 2018 season on the N.Y. Giants practice squad and played in 11 games with two starts for the Giants in 2017. He originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (167th overall) by the Giants in the 2017 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have released wide receiver Ricardo Louis and waived quarterback Jake Rudock.

Louis signed with the Dolphins on April 8, 2019 but missed the entire 2019 season after he was placed on injured reserve. He spent three years (2016-18) in Cleveland, playing in 32 games with 12 starts and totaling 45 receptions for 562 yards (12.5 avg.). Louis originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (114th overall) by Cleveland in the 2016 NFL draft. A Miami native, Louis attended Miami Beach Senior High School.

Rudock signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 12, 2019. He spent the entire 2019 season on Miami’s practice squad. Rudock played in three games with Detroit in 2017 and completed 3-of-5 passes (60.0 pct.) for 24 yards. He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (191st overall) by Detroit in the 2016 NFL draft. A Weston native, Rudock attended St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale.

Miami Dolphins waive Lima

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have waived defensive tackle Ray Lima.

Lima was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on April 29, 2020. He played in all 38 games of his three-year career at Iowa State (2017-19) and made 33 starts. As a senior in 2019, Lima earned second-team All-Big 12 honors after making 28 tackles (nine solo). He was named first-team All-Big 12 as a junior in 2018.
