Dolphins Cancer Challenge Hosts Second Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament

Aventura, FL – The Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC) today hosted the second annual DCC Celebrity Golf Tournament at Turnberry Isle Miami’s two 18-hole championship courses with partners BBVA Compass, BMW South Florida and CapsCanada. The tournament offered cancer fighters a chance to golf and interact with athletes and other celebrity guests. Funds raised from the golf tournament will benefit Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami. More than 190 golfers participated in the sold-out event.

“Today is a great day to be a cancer fighter. Today we came together in the name of fighting a disease that has touched us all in some way,” DCC Chair & Vice Chairman of Rialto Capital Management Eric Feder said. “This event caps what has been a successful year of raising critical funds for innovative cancer research that will have a direct impact on the South Florida community.”

The participants teed off for a round of scramble-golf on the world-famous Soffer and Miller Courses with Miami Dolphins Head Coach Adam Gase and Dolphins alumni and players, including Walt Aikens, Dick Anderson, Jermon Bushrod, Kim Bokamper, Bob Brudzinski, Winston Chapman, John Denney, Brandon Doughty, Troy Drayton, Brian Fleury, Andrew Franks, Bob Griese, Lorenzo Hampton, Thomas Henderson, Reshad Jones, Ted Larsen, Dan Marino, Matt Moore, Nat Moore, John Offerdahl, Trevor Reilly, Dwight Stephenson, Lawrence Timmons and Sam Young.

They were joined by Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez as well as former and current pro athletes Charles Johnson (Miami Marlins), Alex Petrovic (Florida Panthers), Derek Mackenzie (Florida Panthers), Rony Seikaly (Miami Heat) and Jonathan Vilma (NFL). Former UM alumni Jon Beason, Brett Romberg, Gino Torretta and DJ Williams also were in attendance.

Golfers were treated to exceptional food and beverage at Bourbon Steak and finished the day with a VIP reception at Corsair.

Scramble (Soffer Course) – Troy Drayton, Michael Mandich, Tre Leoni and Joe Leoni.

Longest Drive – Sam Young, (Miller Course), Luke Freeman (Soffer Course), Bree Rodriguez (Miller Course) and Alexandra Salanic (Soffer Course)
