Miami Dolphins sign Roberts
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed tight end Michael Roberts.
Roberts played in 23 games with five starts over two seasons (2017-18) with Detroit. He caught 13 passes for 146 yards (11.2 avg.) and three touchdowns during those two seasons. Roberts originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (127th overall) by Detroit in the 2017 NFL draft.

Dolphins Cancer Challenge Hosts Fifth Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament presented by Moss Construction
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC) hosted its fifth annual DCC Celebrity Golf Tournament presented by Moss Construction at JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa’s two 18-hole championship courses on Friday, Feb. 14. The tournament offered cancer fighters a chance to golf and interact with Miami Dolphins executives, players, alumni, T.D. and other celebrity guests. Funds raised from the golf tournament benefited Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, a part of UHealth — the University of Miami Health System. The event this year is in advance of DCC 10’s signature event slated for Saturday, Feb. 29.
“The DCC Golf Tournament has grown to become a fundamental part of our year round effort to raise awareness and fundraise for cancer research at Sylvester,” Miami Dolphins Foundation Executive Director Jesse Marks said. “We appreciate Jeff Soffer and Jeff Klein at JW Marriott Turnberry Isle and Moss Construction for their generosity in hosting this event as well as all the participants that came out to take part in this tournament. Due to their continuous support, we are able to progress this initiative with 100% of participant raised funds going directly to Sylvester.”
Miami Dolphins Head Coach Brian Flores greeted the golfers before they teed off for a round of scramble-golf on the world-famous Soffer and Miller Courses. Golfers then enjoyed the post event 19th hole Celebration presented by BBVA Compass.
Former and current pro athletes participated in the event including Miami Dolphins Matt Haack, Trent Harris, John Jenkins and Jake Rudock in addition to Dolphins alumni Woody Bennett, Bob Brudzinski, Vernon Carey, Troy Drayton, Lorenzo Hampton, Terry Kirby, Dan Marino, Nat Moore and John Offerdahl as well as former NFL athletes Ki-Jana Carter, John Harris and Darryl Williams.
During the 2019 season, the Miami Dolphins Foundation announced a two-year partnership renewal with the V Foundation for Cancer Research under the umbrella of the NFL’s Blitz Cancer program for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. To kick off the tournament, The V Foundation announced it would award the first of two new Early Career Investigator Grants in the upcoming weeks in the amount of $200,000 to a young, tenure-track faculty early in their cancer research career at Sylvester, supporting either laboratory-based fundamental or translational research.
“The tremendous collaboration between the Dolphins and the V Foundation enables us to support the critical work of an early career investigator,” V Foundation Senior Vice President of Communications at Public Affairs at the V Foundation Sherrie Mazur said. “We focus on emerging opportunities while keeping momentum toward outcomes. Teamwork, such as this, allows us to work toward Victory Over Cancer®.”
These initiatives align with the Miami Dolphins Foundation’s commitment of leveraging the power of sports and entertainment to inspire a healthier, more educated and united South Florida community.

Miami Dolphins Recognize World Cancer Day Visiting Pediatric Cancer Patients at Alex’s Place at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins wide receiver Allen Hurns and linebacker Raekwon McMillan visited pediatric cancer patients at alex’s place at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center to sign autographs, take photos and distribute gifts in recognition of World Cancer Day on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
“To see these kids with great energy goes to show that whatever you are going through in life may not be as bad as it seems because they are going through a lot more in here while keeping a smile on their faces and it shows that by keeping a positive mindset we can work through anything,” McMillan said. “It feels good to come back and the kids actually remember my face and some of the conversations we’ve had last time we are bringing them back up so I like coming back to check on them to see how they are doing.”
The Dolphins have visited alex’s place multiple times over the years. The patients, ranging from 6-18 years old and all of whom are receiving treatment for cancer and blood diseases, had the opportunity to interact and take photos with Hurns and McMillan.
“It makes us feel good knowing that people care about us just to spend time because we are here twice a week so it’s a good breakup of the week so we can have a little fun while we are here,” Kimberly Perry said.
“The fact that they chose to come here and provide their support is very emotional and uplifting for the kids fighting cancer as well as the staff and I think it’s a great reflection of the Miami Dolphins team and the spirit that these players have,” Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Director Stephen Nimer, MD, said.
This visit is in advance of the Miami Dolphins annual Dolphins Cancer Challenge, the DCC 10, slated for Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020. This marks the tenth edition of the popular community event that raises funds for innovative cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, a part of UHealth — the University of Miami Health System. The signature event will include five bike routes through South Florida and a run/walk 5K presented by Ambetter – extending the opportunity for cancer fighters to be of all ages and all capabilities.

The NFL & Miami Dolphins Surprise Local Youth and High School Football Coaches with Tickets to Super Bowl LIV
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – On January 27th, the NFL and Miami Dolphins surprised four local youth and high school football coaches on-stage at Super Bowl Opening Night presented by BOLT24 with tickets to Super Bowl LIV. The NFL Super Bowl Ticket Giveaway Program recipients included Booker T. Washington Senior High School Head Coach Earl Tillman, Calvary Christian High School Head Coach Kirk Hoza, Fort Lauderdale High School Head Coach Richard Dunbar and Hollywood PAL Director Patrick Agenor. Additionally, youth football players and cheerleaders from Miami PAL had the opportunity to walk on-stage with each team’s captains and head coach and youth football players from the Liberty City Warriors greeted the teams.
“We are so excited to show our appreciation for some of our South Florida coaches for their dedication to youth athletes and provide them with a memorable experience surrounding Super Bowl LIV here in Miami,” said Miami Dolphins Director of Youth Programs and Camps RaShauna Hamilton. “Our Junior Dolphins program strives to celebrate the game of football year-round and this has been a remarkable opportunity to showcase our talented coaches and players with the NFL community.”
“Year-round, coaches play a tremendous role in shaping players’ lives, both on and off the field,” said NFL Vice President of Youth and High School Football Strategy Roman Oben. “It was an honor to recognize four local area coaches and surprise them with Super Bowl LIV tickets. We look forward to celebrating the entire youth and high school football community with the Miami Dolphins as part of tremendous ongoing efforts in South Florida.”
For the third consecutive year, to show appreciation for those who have made the NFL’s past 100 seasons remarkable, the league and clubs are giving back to long-time fans by providing opportunities to attend Super Bowl LIV in Miami. Throughout the season, the NFL and all 32 clubs have been surprising fans and distributing 500 tickets to Super Bowl LIV.
The Junior Dolphins program encourages youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment. The Junior Dolphins program is designed to give kids access to learn the fundamentals of football using the
NFL’s top resources. To grow the game, the Junior Dolphins program will work to educate coaches, parents and youth on the health and safety of football with a strong emphasis on character development. Junior Dolphins is building the next generation of Dolphins Fans.

Miami Dolphins promote Boyer, add 5 assistant coaches
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have promoted Josh Boyer to defensive coordinator and hired the following assistants: Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator, Robby Brown as quarterbacks coach, Austin Clark as outside linebackers coach, Curt Kuntz as assistant defensive backs coach and Steve Marshall as offensive line coach.
Boyer is entering his 15th season as an NFL coach and second with the Dolphins after he was named defensive pass game coordinator/cornerbacks coach on Feb. 8, 2019. He helped the Dolphins pass defense improve significantly throughout his first season in Miami. The Dolphins improved from 296.3 pass yards per game allowed in the first four games of the 2019 season to 251.1 pass yards per game allowed following the Week 5 bye. Cornerback Nik Needham was signed as an undrafted college free agent and finished the season second among NFL rookies with 11 passes defensed. His 10 passes defensed in the final eight games of the season were tied for the fifth-most among all NFL players in that span.
“Josh and I have coached together for 14 years,” Head Coach Brian Flores said. “He is smart, innovative, a great teacher and a strong communicator.”
Gailey is entering his 21st season as an NFL coach and second stint as offensive coordinator for the Dolphins after he served in that role from 2000-01. In his first stint as Dolphins offensive coordinator, the Dolphins won 11 games in back-to-back seasons and made the playoffs each year. This is Gailey’s fifth job as an NFL offensive coordinator. He most recently was offensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 2015-16. Gailey has also served as head coach for the Buffalo Bills (2010-12), Georgia Tech (2002-07), the Dallas Cowboys (1998-99), Samford University (1993), the Birmingham Fire (1991-92) and Troy State (1983-84).
“Chan is innovative and well respected around the NFL as a great teacher and offensive mind. I know from competing against him how tough his offenses are to defend. I look forward to the leadership and experience his years as a head coach and directing offenses will bring to our staff,” Flores said.
Brown is entering his fifth season as an NFL coach and has experience working on both sides of the ball. He spent four years with the New York Jets (2015-18) serving as an offensive quality control coach from 2015-16 and defensive assistant from 2017-18. Brown was most recently a special assistant to the head coach and senior offensive analyst at West Virginia in 2019. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Valdosta State from 2009-12, helping the team win the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championship.
Clark is a first-time NFL coach. He spent the past two seasons (2018-19) as the defensive line coach at Illinois. In 2019, he helped Illinois reach its first bowl game since 2014. Clark mentored junior Oluwole Betiku Jr., who tied for seventh in the Big Ten with nine sacks despite playing in just 10 games. His sack total was also tied for seventh in single-season school history. Clark served as assistant defensive line/outside linebackers coach at Southern California from 2016-17.
Kuntz is also a first-time NFL coach. He spent the past eight seasons (2012-19) as the head coach at Struthers High School in Struthers, Ohio. During his eight years there, Kuntz compiled a 53-31 record, won a conference championship and led the Wildcats to four playoff appearances, including three times in the past four seasons.
Marshall is entering his 11th season as an NFL coach. In his last six seasons coaching in the NFL, his offensive line units ranked in the top 10 in the league in sacks allowed on four occasions and the top half of the league five times. Marshall’s most recent NFL job was with the New York Jets, where he served as offensive line coach from 2015-17. He has spent 40 years coaching offensive linemen, including 29 years at the collegiate level.

Miami Dolphins Host Girls Flag Football Combine presented by Nike
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – On January 11th, the Miami Dolphins hosted the Girls Flag Football Combine presented by Nike at the Baptist Health Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University. The premier camp and training event for high school girls flag football players featured eight teams that participated in individual and team skills challenges as well as 7-on-7 play.
Dr. Michael M. Krop, Miami Central, Miami Edison and Miami Senior will compete in a championship competition on January 31st at the Super Bowl Experience presented by Lowe’s at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
“This elite experience allows the next generation of athletes to showcase both their individual and team talents in a fun and competitive environment, which truly aligns with our Junior Dolphins mission to provide avenues of skill development for our South Florida teams” said Miami Dolphins Director of Youth Programs and Camps RaShauna Hamilton. “We’re looking forward to seeing the top four teams continue on to championship play at Super Bowl Experience later this month.”

Miami Dolphins sign Rudock to futures contract
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed quarterback Jake Rudock to a futures contract.
Rudock spent the entire season on Miami’s practice squad after he joined the team on Jan. 12, 2019. He’s played in three NFL games, all with Detroit in the 2017 season. Rudock originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (191st overall) by Detroit in the 2016 NFL draft. A native of nearby Weston, he played high school football for St. Thomas Aquinas, where he was named South Florida Player of the Year as a senior in 2010.

Miami Dolphins sign Causey to futures contracts
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed cornerback Rashard Causey to a futures contract.
Causey joined Miami’s practice squad on Dec. 12, 2019. He spent part of training camp with Denver and Atlanta and was with the Falcons for the entire offseason program after he joined Atlanta as an undrafted college free agent on April 29, 2019. Causey was a four-year letterman (2015-18) at Central Florida. A Miami native, he played high school football at University School and St. Thomas Aquinas.
