Miami Dolphins sign 8 to practice squad
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they signed eight players to the team’s practice squad: quarterback Brandon Doughty, tight end Thomas Duarte, tackle Sean Hickey, wide receiver Malcolm Lewis, cornerback Jordan Lucas, defensive end Cameron Malveaux, wide receiver Drew Morgan and running back De’Veon Smith.
Doughty was inactive for one game in 2016 with Miami and spent the remainder of the season on the team’s practice squad. He has not appeared in an NFL game. Doughty was a seventh-round selection (223rd overall) by Miami in the 2016 NFL draft.
Duarte appeared in one game for Miami in 2016. He was inactive for eight contests and spent the rest of the year on the team’s practice squad. Duarte was a seventh-round pick (231st overall) by Miami in the 2016 NFL draft.
Hickey signed with Miami on Aug. 15, 2017 after spending several stints on Minnesota’s practice squad in 2016. He also spent time with the N.Y. Jets (2016), New England (2015) and New Orleans (2015) but has not appeared in an NFL game.
Lewis signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He played five seasons (2012-16) at Miami (Fla.), appearing in 50 career games with 15 starts and totaling 62 receptions for 649 yards (10.5 avg.) and three touchdowns.
Lucas played in eight games for the Dolphins in 2016 and recorded two special teams tackles. He also appeared in the team’s AFC Wild Card playoff game at Pittsburgh. Lucas originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (204th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2016 NFL draft.
Malveaux signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He played four years (2013-16) at the University of Houston where he appeared in 52 games with 27 starts and recorded 81 tackles (44 solo), four sacks, five passes defensed and three fumble recoveries.
Morgan signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He was a four-year letterman (2013-16) at Arkansas where he played in 49 games with 19 starts and totaled 138 receptions for 1,763 yards (12.8 avg.) and 14 touchdowns.
Smith signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He was a four-year letterman (2013-16) at Michigan where he played in 49 games with 26 starts and recorded 495 carries for 2,235 yards (4.5 avg.) and 22 touchdowns.

Chapman was signed by the Dolphins on Feb. 21, 2017. He was a four-year letterman (2012-15) for Mississippi State and played in 40 career games. Chapman was named to the 2015 Southeastern Conference Honor Roll.
Darr played two seasons for the Dolphins, appearing in 32 games. He totaled 182 punts for 8,371 yards (46.0 avg.) and held opponents to a 39.8 net punt average. Darr originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on May 8, 2015.

Fales signed with the Dolphins on April 5, 2017 after playing one game with Chicago in 2016. He also spent time on Baltimore’s practice squad that season. Fales split time between Chicago’s active roster and practice squad in 2014 and 2015. He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round selection (183rd overall) by Chicago in the 2014 NFL draft.
Griffey signed with the Dolphins on Aug. 15, 2017. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Indianapolis on May 4, 2017. Griffey played in 44 games at the University of Arizona (2013-16) and caught 79 passes for 1,241 yards (15.7 avg.) and six touchdowns in his collegiate career.
Hendy played in one game for Miami in 2016 and spent the rest of the season on the team’s practice squad. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Dolphins on May 6, 2016.
Hewitt played in 32 games with seven starts for the Dolphins in 2015-16 and totaled 89 tackles (57 solo), one sack, one interception, four passes defensed and one fumble recovery. He also played in Miami’s AFC Wild Card playoff game at Pittsburgh and totaled five tackle (three solo). Hewitt originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Dolphins on May 14, 2013.

Johnson signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 10, 2017 after spending eight weeks on the team’s practice squad in 2016. He also spent time with Tampa Bay (2016) and Jacksonville (2014-15). Johnson played in nine games with the Jaguars in 2014 and totaled 49 carries for 187 yards (3.8 avg.) and one touchdown.
Lacey signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 10, 2017. He played three seasons (2014-16) for the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League and totaled 114 tackles, seven sacks, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Dallas on May 10, 2013.
Lawrence signed with the Dolphins on Aug. 15, 2017. He spent part of the 2017 training camp with New Orleans and has also played with Jacksonville (2015-16), Chicago (2014-15) and Washington (2014) but has not appeared in an NFL game.
Lewis signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He played five seasons (2012-16) at Miami (Fla.), appearing in 50 career games with 15 starts and totaling 62 receptions for 649 yards (10.5 avg.) and three touchdowns.
Lippett has played in 25 games with 13 starts for the Dolphins over the past two seasons (2015-16). He’s totaled 77 tackles (54 solo), four interceptions and 11 passes defensed. Lippett was a fifth-round pick (156th overall) by Miami in the 2015 NFL draft.
Lucas played in eight games for the Dolphins in 2016 and recorded two special teams tackles. He also appeared in the team’s AFC Wild Card playoff game at Pittsburgh. Lucas originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (204th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2016 NFL draft.
Malveaux signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He played four years (2013-16) at the University of Houston where he appeared in 52 games with 27 starts and recorded 81 tackles (44 solo), four sacks, five passes defensed and three fumble recoveries.
Martin-Oguike signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He was a four-year letterman (2011, 2014-16) at Temple where he played in 47 games with 28 starts and totaled 124 tackles (80 solo), 18.5 sacks, one interception, two passes defensed, 11 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
Mathews signed with the Dolphins on June 8, 2017. He spent part of the 2017 offseason with Minnesota and was also with Kansas City and Cleveland in 2016. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on May 6, 2016.
McMillan joined the Dolphins as a second-round pick (54th overall) in the 2017 NFL draft. He was a three-year letterman (2014-16) and two-year starter at Ohio State where he played in 41 career games with 26 starts. McMillan recorded 270 tackles (128 solo), six sacks, one interception, 10 passes defensed and two forced fumbles in his collegiate career.
Morgan signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He was a four-year letterman (2013-16) at Arkansas where he played in 49 games with 19 starts and totaled 138 receptions for 1,763 yards (12.8 avg.) and 14 touchdowns.
Okoye signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 12, 2017. He has spent time with Chicago (2016), Dallas (2016), N.Y. Jets (2015-16), Arizona (2015) and San Francisco (2013-15) but has not appeared in an NFL game. Okoye originally entered the NFL with San Francisco on May 7, 2013.
Pantale signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 10, 2017. He has spent time with Philadelphia (2015-16), Chicago (2015) and the N.Y. Jets (2013-14). Pantale played in five games with the Jets in 2014. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Jets on May 10, 2013.
Pitts played in eight games with the Dolphins in 2016 and totaled three special teams tackles. He also played in the team’s AFC Wild Card playoff game at Pittsburgh. Pitts originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on May 6, 2016.
Saint Fleur signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He was a four-year letterman (2013-16) at Northwestern Oklahoma State where he played in 43 games with 32 starts and recorded 208 tackles (128 solo), 23 sacks, 10 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one blocked kick.
Scott played in two games with the Dolphins in 2016 and also appeared in the team’s AFC Wild Card playoff game at Pittsburgh. He was activated from the Dolphins practice squad on Dec. 1, 2016. Scott originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami on May 6, 2016.
Smith signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He was a four-year letterman (2013-16) at Michigan where he played in 49 games with 26 starts and recorded 495 carries for 2,235 yards (4.5 avg.) and 22 touchdowns.
Stringfellow signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He was a two-year letterman (2015-16) at Mississippi where he played in 24 games with 17 starts and recorded 82 receptions for 1,219 yards (14.9 avg.) and 11 touchdowns.
Sylvestre signed with the Dolphins on Aug. 12, 2017. He spent part of the 2017 offseason with Buffalo and the 2016 offseason and training camp with Indianapolis. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Colts on May 4, 2016.
Warmsley signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 10, 2017 after spending portions of the 2016 season on Miami’s active roster and practice squad. He played in five games with eight tackles (four solo) in 2016. Warmsley also spent time with Houston (2014), Seattle (2014-15). He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Houston on May 19, 2014.
Watts signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 10, 2017 after spending the entire 2016 season on the team’s practice squad. He also spent time with Minnesota (2014-16) and played in nine games for the Vikings from 2014-15, totaling four tackles (three solo) and one forced fumble. Watts originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (223rd overall) by Minnesota in the 2014 NFL draft.
Williams was awarded to Miami off waivers from Kansas City on Oct. 19, 2016. He played in five games for the Dolphins in 2016, totaling two solo tackles. Williams also played three seasons for Kansas City (2014-16) and has played in 26 career games with 16 tackles (11 solo). He originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (223rd overall) by Pittsburgh in the 2013 NFL draft.
Avery Young signed with the Dolphins on March 22, 2017. He spent the 2016 season with New Orleans on the non-football injury list. Young originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Saints on May 6, 2016.
Sam Young played in eight games with one start for the Dolphins in 2016 after the team signed him on Oct. 11, 2016. He has also spent time with Jacksonville (2013-15), Buffalo (2011-13) and Dallas (2010). Young has played in 66 career games with 14 starts. He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (179th overall) in the 2010 NFL draft.
