Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed defensive end Tank Carradine and placed defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter on injured reserve.

Carradine joined the Dolphins on Feb. 15, 2019 before being released on Aug. 31, 2019. He played in all four preseason games, recording two tackles and five quarterback hits. Carradine originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (40th overall) by San Francisco in the 2013 NFL draft. He has played in 45 career games with eight starts, totaling 77 tackles (55 solo), 5.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

Ledbetter joined the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 9, 2019. He started in his NFL debut last week vs. Baltimore and made four tackles (one solo) and had half a sack. Ledbetter was a four-year letterman (2015-18) and two-year starter with Georgia. He earned second-team All-SEC honors as a senior in 2018.

Miami Dolphins Announce Week 1 Play Football Award Winners

MIAM GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced their Play Football Week 1 award winners in a program designed to celebrate youth football in South Florida. For each home game, the Dolphins will identify a high school coach of the week, high school player of the week, youth player of the week and team mom of the week. The high school coach of the week selection will celebrate those with long-standing tenure in the coaching community, paying tribute to Don Shula’s 50th season with the Miami Dolphins organization.

Award recipients will receive tickets to a Dolphins home game, be presented with a plaque on the field at Hard Rock Stadium and receive acknowledgement of their accomplishment in the game program and through the Dolphins’ social media platforms. The Dolphins also will recognize a team of the week who will be on field during the national anthem.

The program concludes at the Dolphins-Bengals game where the Dolphins will honor yearly award winners in all categories with the exception of the team of the year.

Week 1 Winners:

  • High School Coach of the Week: Jeff Bertani from North Miami Beach Senior High School. Bertani was an assistant at Miami Norland Senior High School for two years and from there went on to coach at his alma mater North Miami Beach, where he has been the head coach for the past 23 years. The longest tenured head coach at the same Miami-Dade high school, Bertani has made the playoffs for 13 seasons and his career record is 136-107. Bertani has been fortunate enough to have seven players make it to the NFL and more than 120 players receive college scholarships. Bertani’s teams are known for their tough hard-nosed, blue-collar attitude with most of his players playing both offense and defense. His program also prides his itself on loyalty and many of his former players come back as assistant coaches, including four at the present time.
  • High School Player of the Week: Henry Parrish from Christopher Columbus High School. The University of Pittsburgh commit rushed for 324 yards and four touchdown downs to lead Columbus to a 41-7 win over Belen Jesuit.
  • Youth Player of the Week: Brandon Bennett from the Pembroke Pines Optimist Bengals 11U of the American Youth Football League. Bennett was responsible for five touchdowns to lead the Bengals to a 46-0 win over the Tamarac Cougars.
  • Team Mom of the Week: Maytte Hill from the Tamiami Colts of the Greater Miami Pop Warner Football League. Hill is the team mom for her oldest daughter’s cheer and tackle football teams. She works full time and puts countless hours into the program, which means the world to her.
  • Team of the Week: North Miami Beach Senior High School.

The Junior Dolphins program encourages youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment. The Junior Dolphins program is designed to give kids access to learn the fundamentals of football using the NFL’s top resources. To grow the game, the Junior Dolphins program will work to educate coaches, parents and youth on the health and safety of football with a strong emphasis on character development. Junior Dolphins is building the next generation of Dolphins Fans.

Miami Dolphins sign Davis to contract extension

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed guard/tackle Jesse Davis to a contract extension through the 2022 season.

Davis joined the Dolphins as a practice squad addition on Nov. 22, 2016 and has been with the team ever since, playing in 32 games with 26 starts. He played every one of Miami’s 920 offensive snaps in 2018. In 2017, he became one of five players in Dolphins history to start at three positions on the offensive line in the same season. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Seattle on May 2, 2015.

Miami Dolphins sign Webb

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they signed tackle J’Marcus Webb and placed linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel on injured reserve.

Webb has played in 81 NFL games with 65 starts, most recently starting one contest for the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 before being placed on injured reserve. He was released on Aug. 31, 2019. Webb has also spent time with Seattle (2016), Oakland (2015), Minnesota (2013-14) and Chicago (2010-12). He was originally a seventh-round pick (218th overall) by Chicago in the 2010 NFL draft.

Van Ginkel was a fifth-round pick (151st overall) by Miami in the 2019 NFL draft. Van Ginkel played two seasons (2017-18) at Wisconsin after transferring from Iowa Western Community College following his sophomore season. He was a third-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior in 2018 after starting 10 games and totaling 60 tackles (38 solo), 5.5 sacks, three passes defensed and two forced fumbles.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they were awarded linebacker James Crawford off waivers from Green Bay and released linebacker Nate Orchard.

Crawford played in all 16 games as a rookie for Green Bay in 2018. He totaled nine special teams tackles (eight solo) and one fumble recovery. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Green Bay on Aug. 8, 2018. Crawford played collegiately at Illinois but grew up in Deerfield Beach, playing at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale.

Orchard joined the Dolphins on May 16, 2019 as a free agent. He’s played in 38 NFL games with 13 starts over four seasons. He spent the first three years of his career in Cleveland (2015-17) and the 2018 season with Buffalo and Kansas City. Orchard originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (51st overall) by Cleveland in the 2015 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they released long snapper John Denney and waived defensive tackle Vincent Taylor. The team signed defensive tackle John Jenkins and long snapper Taybor Pepper.

Denney played 14 seasons with the Dolphins (2005-18), appearing in a team-record 224 consecutive games. His 224 consecutive games played streak was also the longest active streak in the NFL. His 224 appearances ranks second in team history behind Dan Marino and he was the second 40-year-old to ever play for the Dolphins, joining Earl Morrall. Denney was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2010 and 2012 seasons.

Taylor was a sixth-round pick (194th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2017 NFL draft. He played in 21 games over the past two seasons (2017-18) and totaled 45 tackles (26 solo), two sacks and one pass defensed.

Jenkins has played in 66 NFL games and made 23 starts for New Orleans (2013-16), Seattle (2016), Chicago (2017) and the N.Y. Giants (2018). He has 121 career tackles (67 solo), 1.5 sacks, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Jenkins originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick (82nd overall) by the N.Y. Giants in the 2013 NFL draft.

Pepper played in four games for the Green Bay Packers in 2017. He has also spent time with the N.Y. Giants (2019) and Baltimore (2017). He played collegiately at Michigan State, where he tied a school record by playing in 54 games.

Miami Dolphins trade for Biegel

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have acquired linebacker Vince Biegel from New Orleans in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso.

Biegel has played in 23 NFL games over the past two seasons – one with Green Bay (2017) and one with New Orleans (2018). He has 10 career tackles (seven solo) and 10 special teams stops (seven solo). Biegal also played in two playoff games for the Saints last year. He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (108th overall) by Green Bay in the 2017 NFL draft.

Alonso started 46 games for the Dolphins over the past three seasons (2016-18). He totaled 355 tackles (227 solo) with one sack, five interceptions, 11 passes defensed, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries during his Dolphins tenure. Miami acquired him in a trade with Philadelphia on March 9, 2016. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (46th overall) by Buffalo in the 2013 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have been awarded the following players off waivers: linebacker Trent Harris, linebacker Deon Lacey, defensive end Avery Moss, safety Steven Parker and cornerback Ken Webster. The Dolphins waived the following players: linebacker Terrill Hanks, safety Montre Hartage, tight end Chris Myarick, tackle Zach Sterup and defensive tackle Adolphus Washington.

Harris spent the 2018 season on New England’s practice squad after originally entering the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Patriots on May 11, 2018. He played collegiately at the University of Miami, where he was a third-team All-ACC selection as a senior in 2017 after totaling 8.5 sacks.

Lacey has played in 32 NFL games over the past two seasons (2017-18) with Buffalo, where he totaled three tackles (two solo) and 15 special teams stops (12 solo). He spent the 2017 offseason and training camp with Miami after playing three seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos (2014-16) of the Canadian Football League. Lacey originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Dallas on May 10, 2013.

Moss played in 11 games with two starts for the N.Y. Giants in 2017 and spent the 2018 season on their practice squad. He has 13 career tackles (10 solo), two passes defensed and one forced fumble. He also has one special teams stop. Moss originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (167th overall) by the N.Y. Giants in the 2017 NFL draft.

Parker spent the 2018 season on the L.A. Rams practice squad after signing as an undrafted college free agent on May 15, 2018. He played collegiately at Oklahoma, where he earned second-team All-Big 12 honors as a senior in 2017 and finished his career with 40 consecutive starts.

Webster was a seventh-round pick (252nd overall) by New England in the 2019 NFL draft. He played collegiately at Mississippi, where he appeared in 47 career games. As a sophomore in 2015, he was eighth in the SEC with 12 passes defensed.

Hanks was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 9, 2019. He was a four-year starter (2015-18) at New Mexico State, where he played in 46 games with 43 starts.

Hartage joined the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 9, 2019. He played four seasons (2015-18) at Northwestern, where he appeared in 51 games with 37 starts and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior in 2018.

Myarick was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 9, 2019. He was a four-year letterman (2015-18) and two-year starter at Temple, where he played in 43 career games with 25 starts.

Sterup joined the Dolphins on Nov. 7, 2017 and has played in 12 games with two starts over the past two seasons (2017-18). He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on May 10, 2016.

Washington was signed by the Dolphins on May 22, 2019. He has played in 35 NFL games with 21 starts for Buffalo (2016-18) and Cincinnati (2018). Washington has 62 career tackles (38 solo), 4.5 sacks and three passes defensed. He originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick (80th overall) by Buffalo in the 2016 NFL draft.
