Miami Dolphins Foundation Hosts Successful 20th Annual Fins Weekend
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins Foundation hosted a successful 20th annual Fins Weekend. Proceeds from the event weekend, through the educational pillar of Miami Dolphins Foundation, benefit City Year Miami, an education-focused nonprofit organization that partners with public schools to help keep students on track to graduate. This marks the second year of this impactful relationship, sponsoring City Year programs at Miami Carol City and Miami Norland Senior High Schools.
The festivities began early Friday morning with the golf tournament at Crandon Golf in Key Biscayne. A sold-out field of more than 36 foursomes had the opportunity to golf with a Miami Dolphins current or former player. First place went to the team of City National, with Jorge Martinez, John Costa, Wade Helms and Miami Dolphins alumnus Lousaka Polite. The play was followed by an Awards & Luncheon presented by Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute at Baptist Health South Florida.
After the golf tournament, participants took part in the Hook & Tackle Captain’s Party presented by South Florida Ford at the Miami Beach Marina. Guests gathered inside a tent at the Miami Beach Marina to revel in music, local food vendors and the year’s largest gathering of players, coaches, alumni and cheerleaders.
“For two decades, Fins Weekend has been a staple in South Florida, bringing together players, coaches, cheerleaders and the community to benefit a greater cause,” Fins Weekend Committee Chair Jeff Peck said. “We look forward to many more decades of making a true impact in education that stays right here in South Florida.”
Saturday morning, a total of 50 boats participated in the Fins Weekend Fishing Tournament, where Never Done (Dany Ayo, Marcus Bach-Armas, Jason Robinson and junior angler J.J. Rodriguez) took home first prize with an overall combined weight of 117.7 pounds (3 kingfish & 2 tuna). The quartet won a spot on the team charter on a Miami Dolphins away trip. The tournament was followed by the weigh-in presented by Hooters South Florida and Fishing Awards Ceremony and Live Auction presented by Seaboard Marine.
“The Miami Dolphins Foundation is proud to raise awareness and deliver much needed resources that directly benefit education and change lives in our community,” Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications & Community Affairs Jason Jenkins said. “Our partnership with City Year Miami invests in a younger generation to ensure they have the opportunity to recognize its potential, all the while hosting an event that creates lasting memories with our players, coaches, alumni, partners and community.”
“The partnership with the Miami Dolphins is transformational. Powered by the incredible events of Fins Weekend, the Dolphins are making an investment in the future success of many of the at-risk youth in our community,” City Year Miami Executive Director & Vice President Keith Fletcher said. “Modeled by the ‘all-in’ approach of Fins Weekend — where you see players, alumni, coaches and executives participating — the partnership with City Year is an all-in, all-year investment that goes beyond writing a check. That speaks volumes about the authenticity of the entire Dolphins organization and its commitment to our community.”
