Miami Dolphins Host First-Ever Virtual High School Media Day presented by Nike
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – On June 24, the Miami Dolphins hosted its first-ever virtual High School Media Day (HSMD) presented by Nike for South Florida high school student athletes and their coaches. The one-day immersive experience was made available to every South Florida high school team from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties and provided the opportunity to participate in life skill sessions including financial literacy presented by Truist, diversity and inclusion led by RISE (Ross Initiative In Sports For Equality), nutrition as well as social media tips and tools.
“Going into this year’s high school media day we wanted to be innovative and impactful and by reformatting our programming by taking a virtual approach, we created an engaging opportunity that every student athlete in South Florida could take part in and join our 2020 rookie class as they participate in developmental discussion topics from a safe environment that would assist them on and off the field,” Miami Dolphins Senior Director of Community Relations & Youth Programs RaShauna Hamilton said. “We are thankful for the support of Nike, Truist, RISE and all our contributors in assisting to host this event in what was a valuable experience for the youth of our community and across the country.”
These guided sessions included panels featuring the 2020 Dolphins rookie class to share insight and personal experiences. Additionally, HSMD extended invitations to each of the 21 rookies’ high school football teams expanding outreach to more than 150 high school football programs. This marks the Dolphins’ eighth annual HSMD, having hosted more than 100 teams from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in 2019 at Hard Rock Stadium.
“Football is so big down here in South Florida and with something great like this that the Dolphins are putting on, we had to find a way to do this,” Christopher Columbus High School Head Football Coach David Dunn said. “I think these life skills are really going to help them out in high school and college and the more they can get exposed to things like this the better off they are going to be in the long run. It wasn’t too long ago that the rookies were in our players’ shoes. I think they have unbelievable perspective having been here recently and can give these guys great leadership and advice on how to get to where they are while managing being a student athlete.”
These initiatives align with the Miami Dolphins’ commitment to leveraging the power of sports and entertainment to inspire a healthier, more educated and united South Florida community. Together our players, cheerleaders, alumni, staff and partners are dedicated to being difference-makers in our community.
The Junior Dolphins program encourages youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment. The Junior Dolphins program is designed to give kids access to learn the fundamentals of football using the NFL’s top resources. To grow the game, the Junior Dolphins program will work to educate coaches, parents and youth on the health and safety of football with a strong emphasis on character development.
