Miami Dolphins make roster moves
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed wide receiver Trey Griffey, tackle Sean Hickey and wide receiver Rashad Lawrence. The team has waived tackle Kwayde Miller, waived/injured wide receiver Francis Owusu and waived/injury settlement wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp.
Griffey joins the Dolphins after he was waived by Indianapolis on July 7, 2017. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Colts on May 4, 2017. A four-year letterman at Arizona (2013-16), Griffey played in 44 games and caught 79 passes for 1,241 yards (15.7 avg.) and six touchdowns. As a senior in 2016, Griffey caught 23 passes for 382 yards (16.6 avg.) and two touchdowns.
Hickey comes to Miami after spending several stints on Minnesota’s practice squad in 2016. He also spent time with the N.Y. Jets (2016), New England (2015) and New Orleans (2015) but has not appeared in an NFL game. Hickey was a three-year starter (2012-14) at Syracuse where he started 39 straight games, including 25 in a row at left tackle to finish his collegiate career.
Lawrence joins the Dolphins after he was waived by New Orleans on Aug. 12, 2017. He has spent time with Jacksonville (2015-16), Chicago (2014-15) and Washington (2014) but has not played in an NFL game. Lawrence played in 51 games with 30 starts over a four-year career (2010-13) at Northwestern and totaled 96 receptions for 1,165 yards (12.1 avg.) and two touchdowns. He was a team captain as a senior.
Miller signed with the Dolphins on Aug. 4, 2017. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Los Angeles Rams on May 5, 2017 and was waived by the Rams on May 22, 2017. He played in 31 career games with 28 starts at San Diego State, starting the final 28 games of his career at left tackle.
Owusu signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 5, 2017. He was a four-year letterman at Stanford (2013-16) and played in 50 career games with 14 starts. Owusu recorded 34 receptions for 482 yards (14.2 avg.) and three touchdowns in his collegiate career.
Westerkamp signed with the Dolphins on July 30, 2017. He played four seasons at Nebraska (2013-16) where he appeared in 49 games with 16 starts and caught 167 passes for 2,474 yards (14.8 avg.) and 18 touchdowns. He was a two-year captain (2015-16) for the Cornhuskers and finished his career ranked No. 2 in school history in receptions (167).
