Miami Dolphins Impact 125 High School and Youth Teams and more than 3,400 Student-Athletes this Offseason
Davie, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins through their Junior Dolphins program have a strong commitment to youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment. The organization this offseason showed that commitment by impacting 125 high school and youth teams and more than 3,400 student-athletes through its team visits, High School Media Day, equipment donations and free youth football clinics.
“The Junior Dolphins continue to grow the game of football by actively creating opportunities for South Florida youth to participate in and engage with the sport year-round,” Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs Jason Jenkins said. “The Dolphins leadership team is strongly committed to providing these meaningful opportunities and help make lasting memories.”
TEAM VISITS: As part of the Miami Dolphins’ commitment to the development of high school and youth football, the team invited 29 high school and youth teams and more than 1,800 student-athletes from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties to the team’s organized team activities, minicamp and training camp practices. The team visits, initiated by Dolphins Head Coach Adam Gase, are a targeted effort to recognize, inspire and increase football participation through personal connections centered on the positive character building aspects of playing the game.
HIGH SCHOOL MEDIA DAY: In August, the Dolphins hosted 112 teams from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties at their sixth annual High School Media Day at Hard Rock Stadium. The event is designed to develop high school athletes off the field with media training and interview experience. High School Media Day also is catered to South Florida media, giving them an opportunity to interview and interact with the rising stars in the region.
EQUIPMENT DONATIONS: As part of the Junior Dolphins donation program, the team surprised Miramar High School in May and Pompano Beach High School in July with new football equipment to help them prepare for the upcoming season. The teams received 1,5000 pieces of equipment, including Dolphins branded footballs, Gatorade coolers, sleds, blocking shields medicine balls and cleats.
FREE YOUTH FOOTBALL CLINICS: The team also organized a series of free football clinics around South Florida, leading participants through fundamental drills. In March, the Dolphins teamed up with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School varsity and junior varsity football teams, Coconut Creek High School student government, Gold Coast Pop Warner and Parkland Rangers of Gold Coast Pop Warner to host a free football clinic at Pine Trails Park in Parkland. Three hundred-plus boys and girls ages 7-16 worked on their football skills and had the opportunity to meet and interact with Dolphins players. In April, the Miami Dolphins helped the McDougle Family Foundation host a free football clinic in Deerfield Beach. In May, the team hosted a football clinic for the Davie, Hallandale Beach and North Miami Beach Police Athletic/Activities League (PAL) chapters at Mishcon Park. In June, The Miami Dolphins hosted a Gatorade Junior Training Camp at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Junior Dolphins program encourages youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment. The Junior Dolphins program is designed to give kids access to learn the fundamentals of football using the NFL’s top resources. To grow the game, the Junior Dolphins program work to educate coaches, parents and youth on the health and safety of football with a strong emphasis on character development. Junior Dolphins is building the next generation of Dolphins Fans.

Miami Dolphins Host Cypress Bay High School and Boca Braves and Weston Warriors of Gold Coast Pop Warner at Training Camp Practice
Davie, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today hosted the Cypress Bay High School football team and Boca Braves and Weston Warriors of Gold Coast Pop Warner at training camp practice. The teams were given a tour of the Baptist Health Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University and heard from Miami Dolphins Football Communications Manager and Cypress Bay alum Brett Brecheisen about taking advantage of all opportunities.
The teams had the chance to watch the Dolphins practice, meet with current players on the field and had lunch provided by Publix. Following practice, the Boca Braves and Weston Warriors scrimmaged on the Dolphins’ field.
The Cypress Bay team also was presented with a Dolphins jersey in memory of assistant coach Carlo “C.J.” Ullysse Jr. who tragically lost his life last week.
“The Dolphins do a great job with reaching out in a supportive manner and bringing the kids out to learn and watch and be a part of it,” Cypress Bay High School Head Football Coach Josh Shapiro said. “We’re very thankful. This is awesome. We’re going to put a memorial up of Coach C.J. in the weight room – he was one of our strength and conditioning guys – so this just means the world to us.”
“Growing up, the Dolphins were my favorite team, so coming back and seeing the players is a great experience,” Cypress Bay High School football player William Wilson said. “I learned today to take everything seriously. You never know what you’re going to do in the future, so take everything and learn.”
“This is an amazing thing. This is something that no kid really gets to be able to do. Being able to have them come out and see players doing the things we do on a daily basis reinforces the fact that if they do the right things, they can be in the same place,” Boca Braves Head Football Coach Ken Chapman said. “The impact that these players have on children and the public, it’s amazing for them to take time, give back. They’re in a position to be able to influence the children of today, so I think it’s phenomenal”
“The boys got really excited to come see a professional practice, to see these big men move fast. They get to have a blast and be able to scrimmage against another team. It’s so cool to see an NFL team give back to the community,” Weston Warriors Head Football Coach Brian McCartney said.
As part of the Miami Dolphins’ commitment to the development of high school and youth football, the team hosted 24 high school and youth teams from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties at the team’s training camp practices. The team visits, initiated by Dolphins Head Coach Adam Gase, are a targeted effort to recognize, inspire and increase football participation through personal connections centered on the positive character building aspects of playing the game.

Davie, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today hosted the Pompano Beach High School and Miami Beach Junior Hi-Tides of the Youth Academic Sports League (YASL) football teams at training camp practice. The teams were given a tour of the Baptist Health Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University and heard about the importance of proper fuel and nutrition from Food Group Management Director of Dining Services Meghan Kelly. The athletes also had the opportunity to watch the Dolphins practice and meet with current players on the field. Following practice, the athletes had lunch provided by Publix.
“This is a great opportunity for kids that normally don’t get this opportunity to be here. We’ve been very blessed by the Dolphins organization and we’re very appreciative to come out and enjoy practice,” Pompano Beach High School Head Football Coach Melvin Jones said. “The kids learned a lot. They learned to definitely put fuel in their bodies. To hear it from the professionals and guys that do it at the highest level, now it’s sinking in that taking care of your body is very important.”
“When the kids leave, they’re going to take this experience with them and hopefully it motivates them to keep doing the things we’re trying to get them do, positive things and maybe one day we’ll see them wearing these Dolphins colors,” Miami Beach Junior Hi-Tides Head Football Coach Corey Butts said.
As part of the Miami Dolphins’ commitment to the development of high school and youth football, the team will host 27 high school and youth teams from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties at the team’s training camp practices. Miami Dolphins and Verizon Partner To Surprise Military Veteran With Smart Home Upgrades
Coral Springs, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins in collaboration with Verizon honored Army veteran Patrick Moore by surprising him with the latest in Verizon’s smart technology at his Coral Springs home. The Miami Dolphins have a proud tradition, dating back several decades, of honoring those who have served our country.
Moore enjoyed a day at the Baptist Health Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University watching the Miami Dolphins training camp practice. He then arrived home to a surprise of the latest installments of Verizon’s smart technology and a welcome by Miami Dolphins Alumni Kim Bokamper and Nat Moore, and Cheerleaders Briana and Carina.
“Verizon has a longstanding commitment to supporting our military communities,” Verizon Southeast Market President Russ Preite said. “We are thrilled to partner with the Dolphins to honor the service and sacrifice of Major Moore, and we hope the technology we installed today will help enhance his family’s home and keep them all connected.”
Patrick Moore is a husband, father and decorated Army veteran of 20 years. During his time in the Army, Moore was a squad leader for the 75th Ranger Regiment and was awarded the Expert Infantry Badge, Master Parachutist Badge and two Bronze Stars among several others. He continues to serve the Army as a military exercise planner.
“I’m totally surprised and overwhelmed at the amount of great things that Verizon was able to provide us, and the Miami Dolphins gave us access to players and an incredible on-field experience,” Major Patrick Moore said. “My experience in the military was fantastic but never in a million years did I think that it was going to lead to this. For all veterans — I say thank you for your service. And thank you Verizon and thank you to the Miami Dolphins.”
While Moore and his family were at training camp, Verizon installed a Ring Doorbell, Chromecast Ultra, Google Home + Mini, Nest Cam, Canary All in one, WeMo Smart Plug and Tile 4 pack, all easily managed via a Google Pixel 2 smartphone. This event is part of a Miami Dolphins and Verizon collaborative effort to highlight an Army veteran.
“The Miami Dolphins have a decades-long tradition of celebrating and recognizing the men and women of the armed forces and first responders who have dedicated their lives to the service of America. Today is another example of the Dolphins’ teamwork at work, uniting together with Verizon to surprise the Moore family and honor Patrick for the service he has done and continues to provide,” Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Special Projects & Alumni Relations Nat Moore said.

Miami Dolphins Announce Football Unites Captains Program
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins announced the creation of the Football Unites Captains Program, a diversity and inclusion initiative that will bring 80 to 100 middle school students from various backgrounds together once a month for a day of learning about tolerance, acceptance and leadership. Dolphins players and alumni will join these students to share their stories, perspectives and experiences. The Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) will assist with programming and program evaluation.
Participating students will come from the following organizations: The Alliance for GLBTQ Youth, Boys & Girls Club of Broward County, youth from the Israeli Consulate in Miami, North Miami PAL, North Miami Beach PAL and the Greater Miami Pop Warner Tamiami Colts Jr. Varsity football program.
“We are excited to launch the Football Unites Captains Program with the goal of stimulating conversations, encouraging inclusivity and uniting our South Florida youth,” Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications & Community Affairs Jason Jenkins said. “We look forward to bringing these young people together to take part in programming from RISE in conjunction with other events designed to celebrate diversity, explore our commonalties and drive social progress.”
The Football Unites Captains Program events will include:
- August 12 – Attending Miami Dolphins training camp practice to welcome students to the program
- September 16 – Launch of the program with RISE
- October 9 – Community service project and dinner
- November 18 – Football Unites: Cultural Tour
- December 2 – Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills game with Football Unites: CommUNITY Tailgate, Team of the Week and on-field game recognition
Through Football Unites, the organization has created opportunities for South Florida-based groups to strengthen and expand their impact around community engagement, education and criminal justice reform. The team chose 11 recipients to receive Football Unites grants for the 2018 season. This diverse set of recipients includes Art Detectives, Community Justice Project, Inc., Miami Gardens Police Department, National Organization of Black Law Executives South Florida Chapter (NOBLE), North Miami Police Athletic League, North Miami Beach Police Athletic League, Pridelines, SAVE, Trayvon Martin Foundation, Urban League of Broward County and YWCA Miami.
The grant recipients are in addition to an announcement by Stephen Ross and the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project of a long-term partnership, centering on social justice, education and police and youth relations. The cornerstones of the partnership are the 5000 Role Models Police and Youth Conference and a College Academic Signing Day for Wilson Scholars at Hard Rock Stadium. In addition, the Dolphins will continue pre-existing programs with the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project and amplify new events. In all, these social justice community initiatives will impact more than 10,000 Role Models.
Another component of Football Unites is the Project Change Scholarship, which identifies one high school student each year and pays for their tuition to college over a four-year period. The goal of the college scholarship is to provide financial support to students who have made a commitment to leading social progress initiatives in their communities. This year’s inaugural recipient was Valicia Browne. Browne, a graduating senior from Olympic Heights Community High School in Boca, has a goal to establish medical clinics to offer reasonably priced health care in underserved communities and has been accepted to Florida State University.
These initiatives are in addition to Dolphins previous work in this space through the team’s collaboration with the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE). Founded by Ross in Oct. 2015, RISE harnesses the unifying power of sports to improve race relations and drive social progress. To learn more about RISE, visit risetowin.org.

Miami Dolphins Host Miami Central Senior High School and Greater Miami Pop Warner Football Teams at Training Camp Practice
Davie, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today hosted the Miami Central Senior High School football team and Palmetto Raiders and Tamiami Bandits of Greater Miami Pop Warner at training camp practice. The teams were given a tour of the Baptist Health Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University and heard from Miami Dolphins alum Troy Drayton about the importance of education.
The teams also had the opportunity to watch the Dolphins practice, meet with current players on the field and had lunch provided by Publix. Following practice, the Palmetto Raiders and Tamiami Bandits scrimmaged on the Dolphins’ field.
“I thought this was an excellent opportunity for our team to come out here and see how the pros work, so when we get back home and practice, we’ll know how to work,” Miami Central High School Head Football Coach Roland Smith said.
“It was a great experience seeing how the pros work and how we have to continue to work hard,” Miami Central High School wide receiver Anthony Frederick said. “I watched how the receivers work, their technique and I liked to see how they worked with the quarterbacks.”
“It feels good for the Dolphins to bring us out here, because most kids aren’t used to this,” Palmetto Raiders Head Football Coach Travis Terry said. “It means a lot for Troy Drayton to talk to the kids, because it shows them how to be responsible, go to school and get your education and work hard at everything you’re trying to do.”
“Today was awesome and the Dolphins were nice enough to have us here. We also heard from Troy Drayton and how he got to where he’s at now, because of football,” Tamiami Bandits Head Football Coach Luis Jaramillo said.
In September 2017, Miami Dolphins players provided support for lodging and transportation to Miami Central when the football team was displaced by Hurricane Irma after competing in Las Vegas.
“We wouldn’t have been able to get out of Las Vegas last year without the help of the Miami Dolphins,” Smith said. “We were thankful for them to help out and donate some money to help us get back and stay in a hotel, because we didn’t have any funds to pay for our rooms. They did a tremendous job. We want to thank them for stepping up and getting us back to Miami safely.”
As part of the Miami Dolphins’ commitment to the development of high school and youth football, the team will host 27 high school and youth teams from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties at the team’s training camp practices. The team visits, initiated by Dolphins Head Coach Adam Gase, are a targeted effort to recognize, inspire and increase football participation through personal connections centered on the positive character building aspects of playing the game.
