Miami Dolphins Visit Baptist Children’s Hospital
Miami – Miami Dolphins players Ted Larsen, Cody Parkey and Kenny Stills, cheerleaders Alexandra and Etta and mascot T.D. spent their day off visiting patients at Baptist Children’s Hospital.
“Each year, we look forward to the Miami Dolphins visiting the children at our hospital,” Baptist Hospital and Baptist Children’s Hospital Chief Executive Officer Bo Boulenger said. “The players, cheerleaders and T.D bring such joy to our patients and families — a memory they will never forget.”
The group distributed Baskets of Hope filled with toys, games, craft items, stuffed animals, gift cards and Wendy’s items that include footballs, pens and coloring books to the patients to brighten their day. Wendy’s is a supporting partner of this hospital visit.
“I’m very honored to be here. It’s cool to see the smile on these kids face. If we can brighten their day at all, it makes it worth it for us,” Parkey said. “It’s our off day, but we try to use our influence in a positive way. I try to do as much as I can in the community, especially being from South Florida, I feel like it’s heavy on my heart to give back to the community as much as I can. But it’s awesome being here – it’s just as uplifting for us as it is for some of the kids.”
The Dolphins through the years have had numerous visits to Baptist Children’s Hospital, with more than two dozen players, cheerleaders and mascot T.D. visiting more than 200 patients in that time.

Miami Dolphins And Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) Announce Youth Programs Week 13 Award Winners
Miami, FL – The Miami Dolphins and the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) today announced their Week 13 award winners in a program designed to recognize the members of the community who have demonstrated their commitment to being leaders on and off the field.
Each week, the Dolphins identify a high school coach of the week, high school player of the week, youth player of the week and team mom of the week. Award recipients are presented with a plaque on the field during a Dolphins home game at Hard Rock Stadium and receive acknowledgement of their accomplishment in the game program and through the Dolphins’ and RISE’s social media platforms. They also receive tickets to a Miami Dolphins home game, access to the Dolphins/RISE pregame tailgate and a Dolphins/RISE T-shirt. For each home game, the Dolphins identify a team of the week and they will be on the field during the national anthem. The program concludes at the Dolphins-Patriots game on December 11 where the Dolphins will honor yearly award winners in all categories with the exception of the team of the year.
Week 13 Winners:
- High School Coach of the Week: Pat Surtain from American Heritage High School. The Patriots (11-0) are the fourth ranked team in the nation according to USA Today’s Super 25 Expert Rankings. The Patriots defeated Cardinal Gibbons in a triple overtime thriller 58-57. They have now won 25 consecutive victories dating back to last year when they won their third state title.
- High School Player of the Week: Isaias Castellon from Miami High School. Castellon threw three touchdowns to lead the Stingarees to a 28-22 victory over Columbus in the Region 4- 8A final. Castellon has lead his team to a 3-0 record this postseason. The last time the Stingarees won three postseason games and a state championship was 1965.
- Youth Player of the Week: Derrick Arguello from the Palmetto Raiders Peewees (130’s) of the Greater Miami South Florida Pop Warner. Arguello, primarily a backup offensive lineman, came into the game after the starting left tackle left the game due to injury. Arguello helped the Raiders to a 24-8 victory over the Ocoee Bulldogs. The win put the Raiders in the Pop Warner National Championship game next week in Orlando. Arguello is a Pop Warner Scholar Athlete with a 3.9 grade point average.
- Team Mom of the Week: Anja Borutta from the Doral Broncos 10U of the Miami Xtreme Youth Football League. Bourtta is a first year team mom and is a team mom without having any of her own kids on the team. This means that she is truly in it for all the players and coaches and volunteers for all the right reasons. She is instrumental in getting her team’s books certified and she is an operations extraordinaire. Borutta assists with all game day set up and breakdown, as well as equipment give away and uniform collection. She is a coaching staff’s dream, because she does all of the heavy lifting to ensure that her players and coaches are successful on the field. Her dedication and loyalty to the Doral Broncos is the reason why her coaches and players believe they are the best in the Miami Xtreme Football League.

Eaton and the Miami Dolphins to Award Free Ephesus LED Sports Lighting System to a Miami-Dade or Broward County High School Football Field
MIAMI GARDENS, FL – NOV. 27, 2017 — The Miami Dolphins and power management company Eaton today announced a community programming initiative – “Light Like the Pros” – in which one deserving Miami-Dade or Broward County high school will receive a free Ephesus state-of-the-art LED sports lighting system valued at more than $100,000.
“We look forward to providing one deserving high school football field in South Florida with a state-of-the-art LED lighting system offering many of the same benefits of the system at Hard Rock Stadium,” said Mike Lorenz, president, Eaton’s Ephesus Lighting business. “Over the past five years, professional sports teams have learned to understand the benefits and reliability of an LED lighting system. It’s now time for high schools and municipalities to have the same benefits available to them.”
The program encourages high schools and other facilities that host high school football games in Miami-Dade or Broward counties to apply for the free energy-efficient LED lighting retrofit solution at Dolphins.com/LightLikeThePros. The contest is open to high school football facilities in Miami-Dade or Broward counties that currently have a sports lighting system. Applicants must provide a short essay about the limitations, problems and issues with their current lighting system, and how an energy-efficient LED lighting system can benefit the school, its students and the entire community. Deadline to enter is December 23, 2017.
“Here within the Miami Dolphins we support a mission to transform the lives of youth football players by instilling character building and reinforcing safety standards that help to increase football participation and grow a new generation of Dolphins fans,” Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs Jason Jenkins said. “We’re supportive of this community initiative to better illuminate a high school field in South Florida for the betterment of their athletes and we commend Eaton for stepping up and supporting high school football in South Florida.”
The Ephesus All Field Series provides high schools, colleges and municipalities with a high-quality, cost-effective, versatile and controllable outdoor LED sports lighting solution. Engineered to satisfy customers’ specific needs, its multiple mounting options, low weight and low Effective Projected Area (EPA) make it one of the first LED fixtures designed to easily retrofit into existing sports lighting infrastructure to dramatically reduce installation costs. The enhanced engineered optics efficiently deliver uniform light on the field to significantly reduce unwanted spill light and sky glow. Typically, a facility that switches to an Ephesus LED lighting solution will virtually eliminate maintenance and reduce energy costs by 70 percent over typical legacy sports lighting systems.
In addition, Eaton will be a supporting collaborator of the prominent Dade vs. Broward All-Star Game presented by Broward College. The popular postseason contest, in partnership with the Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) and Greater Miami Athletic Conference (GMAC), will feature top prospects from local high schools. Top youth football players from Broward and Miami-Dade County that play in the American Youth Football League (AYFL), Florida Youth Football League (FYFL), Great Miami Pop Warner, Gold Coast Pop Warner, Miami Xtreme, National Youth Football League (NYFL) and Youth Academic Sports League (YASL) also will participate in games throughout the day. Top high school coaches will lead the youth football all-star teams, creating the opportunity for mentorship and development of youth coaches.
