Miami Dolphins sign Jones to contract extension
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed safety Reshad Jones to a contract extension through the 2021 season.
Jones started the first six games for the Dolphins in 2016 before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 6. In those six contests, Jones recorded 51 tackles (31 solo), 0.5 sacks, one interception and four passes defensed. He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2015 season and was co-recipient of the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player award when he started all 16 games and recorded 135 tackles (106 solo), two sacks, five interceptions, including two for touchdowns, 10 passes defensed, two sacks and one fumble recovery. His five interceptions in 2015 were the most by a Dolphins safety since 2002.
In his seven-year NFL career, Jones has played in 94 games with 80 starts and totaled 542 tackles (420 solo), nine sacks, 16 interceptions, 40 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (163rd overall) by the Dolphins in the 2010 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins trade for 2-time Pro Bowl selection Thomas
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have made a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars for two-time Pro Bowl tight end Julius Thomas. In return, the Dolphins will send the Jaguars their seventh-round pick (240th overall) in the 2017 NFL draft.
Thomas has played six NFL seasons, four with the Denver Broncos (2011-14) and two with the Jaguars (2015-16) and was selected to the Pro Bowl following both the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He has totaled 51 career games played with 41 starts and recorded 185 receptions for 2,018 yards (10.9 avg.) and 33 touchdowns. His 33 touchdowns are the fourth-most among NFL tight ends from 2011-16. Thomas caught 65 passes for 788 yards (12.1 avg.) and 12 touchdowns in 2013, posting career highs in all three categories and helping the Broncos win the AFC. He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection (129th overall) by the Broncos in the 2011 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins trade Albert to Jacksonville
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have traded tackle Branden Albert to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Jacksonville’s seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
Albert started 35 games for the Dolphins in the past three years (2014-16) after Miami signed him as an unrestricted free agent on March 12, 2014. The left tackle started 12 games for the Dolphins in 2016 and was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2015 season. He has played in 120 games with 118 starts in his nine-year NFL career after spending his first six seasons (2008-13) with the Kansas City Chiefs. Albert was selected with the 15th overall pick of the 2008 NFL draft by Kansas City.

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed a first-round tender on linebacker Kiko Alonso, original round tenders on safety Michael Thomas and running back Damien Williams and restructured the contract of defensive end Nick Williams. Alonso, Thomas and Damien Williams were tendered as restricted free agents.
Alonso started 15 games for the Dolphins in 2016, leading the team and ranking No. 9 in the AFC with 115 tackles (69 solo). He also tallied two interceptions, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and four fumble recoveries. His four fumble recoveries were tied for the league lead. Alonso was traded to the Dolphins on March 9, 2016 from Philadelphia. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (46th overall) by the Buffalo Bills in the 2013 NFL draft.
Thomas played in all 16 games with the Dolphins in 2016 and made eight starts, totaling 39 tackles (27 total), one sack, one pass defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He tied for the NFL lead with 19 total special teams tackles and had an interception in Miami’s AFC Wild Card game at Pittsburgh. Thomas has played 43 games with 23 starts in his four-year NFL career, all coming with the Dolphins (2013-16). Miami signed him off San Francisco’s practice squad on Dec. 10, 2013. Thomas originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the 49ers on May 4, 2012.
Damien Williams played in 15 games for the Dolphins in 2016 and totaled 35 carries for 115 yards (3.3 avg.) and three touchdowns. He posted career highs with 23 receptions for 249 yards (10.8 avg.) and three receiving touchdowns and caught a 4-yard touchdown pass in Miami’s AFC Wild Card game at Pittsburgh. During his three-year NFL career, Williams has played in 47 games for the Dolphins (2014-16) and totaled eight touchdowns – three rushing and five receiving. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Dolphins on May 12, 2014.
Nick Williams played in five games with the Dolphins in 2016 after also participating in five contests with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the season. He totaled seven tackles (six solo) in his 10 total games played in 2016. Williams was awarded to the Dolphins off waivers from Kansas City on Oct. 19, 2016 after he played from 2014-16 for the Chiefs. In his three-year NFL career, Williams has played 26 games. He originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (223rd overall) by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2013 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins re-sign Stills
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have re-signed wide receiver Kenny Stills.
Stills started all 16 games for the Dolphins in 2016 and recorded 42 receptions for 726 yards (17.3 avg.) and a team-high nine touchdowns. His 17.3 yards per reception average was third in the NFL and his 13.0 yards at catch average was second. Stills has played in 63 games with 40 starts over his four-year NFL career and spent two seasons with the New Orleans Saints (2013-14) prior to being traded to the Dolphins on March 13, 2015. He was originally a fifth-round selection (144th overall) by New Orleans in the 2013 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins tender 4 exclusive rights free agents
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have tendered the following exclusive rights free agents: tight end Thomas Duarte, linebacker Mike Hull, cornerback Lafayette Pitts and center/guard Anthony Steen.
Duarte was a seventh-round selection (231st overall) by the Dolphins in the 2016 NFL draft and played in one game during his rookie season. The UCLA product spent the first eight weeks of the regular season on the team’s practice squad before he was signed to the active roster on Nov. 5, 2016. He was inactive for eight contests.
Hull played in all 16 games with one start in 2016 and made 15 tackles (seven solo) and one interception. He intercepted Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer in the first quarter of his first NFL start on Dec. 11, 2016. Hull also played in three contests for the Dolphins in 2015. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the team on May 8, 2015.
Pitts appeared on special teams in eight games for the Dolphins in 2016 and made three special teams stops during his rookie season. Pitts spent the first nine weeks of the regular season on the practice squad before he was signed to the active roster and participated in each of the team’s final eight regular season contests. The Dolphins signed him as an undrafted college free agent on May 6, 2016 after he finished his collegiate career at Pittsburgh.
Steen played in 15 games with seven starts at center for the Dolphins in 2016. He was inactive one game due to injury. During the season, Steen was only penalized twice and did not allow a sack. He started the first three games of the season at center, the first regular season action of his NFL career. Steen originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Arizona on May 12, 2014 and was signed by the Dolphins to the team’s practice squad on Nov. 24, 2015.

Miami Dolphins Girls Flag Football Clinic and Jamboree presented by Broward College
Davie, Fla. – Miami Dolphins Youth Programs, in partnership with the Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) and the Greater Miami Athletic Conference (GMAC), hosted the Girls Flag Football Jamboree at Baptist Health Training Facility.
“We’re proud to be associated with this event as the Dolphins have continued to be invested in growing the game for youth,” Broward College District Director of College Readiness & Recruitment Bryan Anderson said.
The jamboree featured 25 high school girls flag football teams from the South Florida area. The jamboree followed a Girls Flag Football Clinic on Feb. 22 that educated the high school ladies on football skills.
“This event continues to grow throughout the years and we’re proud to teach these young ladies the proper skills they need both on and off the field to advance the game and their journeys,” Miami Dolphins Senior Director of Youth Programs Twan Russell said.
The goal of this event is to promote high school football. The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs’ mission is to emphasize the importance of education, physical fitness and positive choices for kids in a safe and fun environment. The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs’ vision is to prepare the next generation of leaders in staying physically active through our Junior Training Camps (JTC), Youth Football Clinics and Youth Football Camps in the South Florida Community.

New York, N.Y. — Miami Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross assisted players who have shown interest in areas such as real estate, technology, business operations, business development and investing. On February 27 – March 3, 16 current Dolphins players paid their way to New York to take part in a business combine with the help of the team’s player engagement department. The weeklong event, the first of its kind for a professional franchise, featured a who’s who of entrepreneurs. Players had the opportunity to speak with and gain valuable advice from Ross, Equinox CEO Harvey Spevak, LRMR Management Maverick Carter, Co-Owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils Michael Rubin and Co-Founder & Co-CEO of Warby Parker Dave Gilboa. In addition, Pro Basketball Hall of Famer David Robinson participated in a video chat. Players also had the opportunity to sit in on a weekly development meeting at Related; tour Hudson Yards, the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States and the largest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center; and RSE Ventures, a sports and entertainment firm founded by Ross and Matt Higgins.
