Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand and waived defensive tackle Anthony Montalvo.

Hand has appeared in 31 career games with 11 starts, having played for Detroit (2018-21) and Tennessee (2021-22). Entering his sixth NFL season, Hand has 54 career tackles (39 solo), 3.0 sacks, two passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (114th overall) by Detroit in the 2018 NFL Draft. Hand played collegiately at Alabama where he played on the same defensive line as current Dolphins teammate Raekwon Davis.

Montalvo signed with Miami as an undrafted college free agent on May 12, 2023. He played in 57 collegiate games with 36 starts over five seasons (2017-22) with UCF. A former walk-on, Montalvo earned a scholarship during his sophomore season in 2019. He totaled 130 career tackles (64 solo), 6.0 sacks, four passes defensed and one forced fumble with the Knights.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed cornerback Mark Gilbert and waived/injured fullback John Lovett.

Gilbert has played in eight career games, all with Detroit in 2021. He recorded three tackles (two solo), one pass defensed and one forced fumble. Gilbert was most recently with the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL, where he totaled 33 tackles (29 solo) and led the league with four interceptions. He was on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad for most of the 2022 season. Gilbert played collegiately at Duke and signed with the Steelers as an undrafted college free agent on May 2, 2021.

Lovett joined the Dolphins on Feb. 18, 2022 and spent the 2022 season on injured reserve. He played in eight NFL games with Green Bay in 2020, totaling three carries for six yards (2.0 avg.) and registering four special teams stops. Lovett originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on May 9, 2019. He played quarterback and running back at Princeton.

Miami Dolphins sign 2 players

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed safety Myles Dorn and linebacker Mike Rose.

Dorn has played in 14 career games, all with Minnesota (2021-22). He’s totaled five career special teams tackles (2 solo). Dorn spent all of 2021 and 2022 with Minnesota after signing with the Vikings as an undrafted college free agent on April 27, 2020. He spent this past offseason program with Carolina. Dorn played collegiately at North Carolina, where he was an honorable mention All-ACC selection as a senior in 2019.

Rose played for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL this past spring, appearing in eight games with six starts and totaling 35 tackles (15 solo). He spent the 2022 offseason and training camp with Kansas City after signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted college free agent on May 9, 2022. Rose played collegiately at Iowa State, where he was a first-team All-American and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year as a junior in 2020.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have waived punter Michael Turk and waived/injured safety Bennett Williams.

Turk signed with Miami as an undrafted college free agent on May 12, 2023. He played two years at Oklahoma (2021-22), where he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection both seasons. He also played two seasons at Arizona State (2019-20) and one at Lafayette College (2017). In total, Turk played in 52 career games and was a first-team all-conference selection four times. He’s the nephew of former Dolphins punter Matt Turk, who played for the team for four seasons (2000-01, 2003-04).

Williams joined Miami as an undrafted college free agent on May 12, 2023. He played three seasons (2020-22) at Oregon, where he appeared in 25 games with 18 starts. He earned honorable mention All-Pac 12 recognition as a senior in 2022. Williams recorded five interceptions in his final two seasons. He also played two years at College of San Mateo (2018-19) and began his collegiate career at Illinois (2017).

Miami Dolphins activate Armstead

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have activated tackle Terron Armstead off the physically unable to perform list.

Armstead started 13 games at left tackle for Miami last year and was selected to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career. He has played in 110 regular-season games with 106 starts and 10 postseason contests in his career. Armstead joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent from New Orleans on March 24, 2022. He was originally a third-round pick (75th overall) by New Orleans in the 2013 NFL Draft following his collegiate career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed cornerback Eli Apple and activated tackle Isaiah Wynn off the physically unable to perform list.

Apple enters his eighth NFL season having played in 88 career games with 78 starts for four teams – the N.Y. Giants (2016-18), New Orleans (2018-19), Carolina (2020) and Cincinnati (2021-22). He’s recorded 332 tackles (273 solo), five interceptions, 51 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. Apple started 30 games the past two seasons for Cincinnati, helping them win the AFC in 2021. He played collegiately at Ohio State where he won a CFP National Championship in 2015 before being selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Giants.

Wynn signed with Miami on May 15, 2023 after spending five years (2018-22) in New England. He’s played in 43 career games with 40 starts, including 33 at left tackle, six at right tackle and one at left guard. He also started a playoff contest in 2019. Wynn was originally a first-round pick (23rd overall) by New England in the 2018 NFL Draft following his collegiate career at Georgia.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed tackle Terron Armstead, tight end Tanner Conner and tackle Isaiah Wynn on the active/physically unable to perform list and activated cornerback Ethan Bonner off the non-football injury list.

Armstead started 13 games at left tackle for Miami last year and was selected to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career. He has played in 110 regular-season games with 106 starts and 10 postseason contests in his career. Armstead joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent from New Orleans on March 24, 2022. He was originally a third-round pick (75th overall) by New Orleans in the 2013 NFL Draft following his collegiate career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Conner appeared in 13 games as a rookie for Miami in 2022. He joined the team as an undrafted college free agent from Idaho State on May 13, 2022, where he was a first-team All-Big Sky selection at wide receiver in the spring of 2021. Conner also earned all-conference honors in track and field. He transitioned to tight end when he was signed by the Dolphins last year

Wynn signed with Miami on May 15, 2023 after spending five years (2018-22) in New England. He’s played in 43 career games with 40 starts, including 33 at left tackle, six at right tackle and one at left guard. He also started a playoff contest in 2019. Wynn was originally a first-round pick (23rd overall) by New England in the 2018 NFL Draft following his collegiate career at Georgia.

Bonner joined the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 12, 2023. He was a four-year letterman at Stanford, where he played in 21 games with 15 starts. As a senior in 2022, Bonner started 10 games, recording 29 tackles (20 solo) and five passes defensed.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed cornerback Nik Needham on the active/physically unable to perform list.

Needham has played in 51 games with 27 starts for the Dolphins since signing as an undrafted college free agent with the team on May 9, 2019. He’s totaled 192 tackles (140 solo), 3.0 sacks, six interceptions, 25 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in his career, including a pick-six in Miami’s win over New Orleans on Monday Night Football on Dec. 27, 2021. As a rookie in 2019, Needham’s 11 passes defensed ranked second among the league’s first-year players that season.
