Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have released guard/tackle Jesse Davis and wide receiver Allen Hurns (failed physical).

Davis has played in 80 NFL games with 72 starts, all for the Dolphins. He joined Miami’s practice squad on Nov. 22, 2016 and spent five seasons with the team, playing all 920 offensive snaps in 2018. Davis originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent out of Idaho with Seattle on May 2, 2015.

Hurns has played in 82 career games with 56 starts, totaling 241 career receptions for 3,380 yards (14.0 avg.) and 25 touchdowns. He joined the Dolphins on July 26, 2019 and played in 14 games with seven starts for Miami that season before opting out of the 2020 campaign and missing the 2021 season due to injury. Hurns originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Jacksonville on May 13, 2014. He’s a Miami native and attended Carol City High School and the University of Miami.

Miami Dolphins acquire Hill from Kansas City

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced that they have acquired wide receiver Tyreek Hill from Kansas City in exchange for a first-round pick, second-round pick and fourth-round pick in 2022 and a fourth-round pick and sixth-round pick in 2023, pending a physical.

Hill is a three-time first-team All-Pro (2016, 2018 and 2020) and has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his six NFL seasons (2016-21). He’s also a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. Hill spent his first six NFL seasons (2016-21) in Kansas City where he appeared in 91 games with 73 starts. He’s totaled 479 career receptions for 6,630 yards (13.8 avg.) and 56 touchdowns. Hill’s also totaled 93 carries for 719 yards (7.7 avg.) and six touchdowns. On special teams, he’s had 86 punt returns for 1,009 yards (11.7 avg.) and four touchdowns; and 14 kickoff returns for 384 yards (27.4 avg.) and one touchdown. Hill has played in 13 playoff games with 12 starts, totaling 84 receptions for 1,081 yards (12.9 avg.) and five touchdowns and won Super Bowl LIV. He originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (165th overall) by Kansas City out of West Alabama in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins re-sign Scarlett

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have re-signed linebacker Brennan Scarlett.

Scarlett joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent from Houston on March 22, 2021. He appeared in 13 games and made four starts for Miami last year, totaling 16 tackles (six solo), one pass defensed and three special teams tackles. Scarlett played the first five seasons (2016-20) of his career in Houston and has appeared in 69 career games with 26 starts. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent from Stanford when he signed with Houston on May 6, 2016.

Miami Dolphins re-sign Smythe

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have re-signed tight end Durham Smythe.

Smythe has played in 63 games with 41 starts for the Dolphins since joining the team as a fourth-round pick (123rd overall) from Notre Dame in the 2018 NFL Draft. He’s totaled 73 career receptions for 680 yards (9.3 avg.) and two touchdowns. Smythe played in all 17 games with 12 starts for the Dolphins in 2021, recording 34 catches for 357 yards (10.5 avg.). He caught at least one pass in eight of the final nine games of the season.

Miami Dolphins re-sign Redwine

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have re-signed safety Sheldrick Redwine.

Redwine joined the Dolphins on Oct. 26, 2021 and spent time on Miami’s active roster and practice squad last year, appearing in four games. He’s also made appearances for Cleveland (2019-20) and the N.Y. Jets (2021), playing in 33 career games with eight starts and totaling 61 tackles (42 solo), 0.5 sack, one interception and three passes defensed. Redwine has 16 career special teams tackles (10 solo). A Miami native, he played at Killian High School and the University of Miami before entering the NFL as a fourth-round pick (119th overall) by Cleveland in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins sign Sherfield

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed wide receiver Trent Sherfield as an unrestricted free agent from San Francisco.

Sherfield enters his fifth NFL season having played in 61 career games with five starts. He spent his first three NFL seasons (2018-20) with Arizona and last year (2021) with San Francisco. Sherfield has recorded 37 career receptions for 427 yards (11.5 avg.) and two touchdowns. He’s also totaled 22 special teams tackles (17 solo). He played in all three of San Francisco’s playoff games in 2021. Sherfield originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent out of Vanderbilt when he signed with Arizona on April 30, 2018.

Miami Dolphins re-sign Roberts

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have re-signed linebacker Elandon Roberts.

Roberts joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent from New England on March 21, 2020. During his two seasons with the Dolphins (2019-20), he has played in 30 games with 26 starts, totaling 144 tackles (75 solo), 2.5 sacks, one interception, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He has served as a team captain in each of his two seasons with the Dolphins (2020-21), was named the team’s Ed Block Courage Award winner in 2021 and the Nat Moore Community Service Award winner in 2020. Roberts spent the first four seasons (2016-19) of his career in New England, where he won Super Bowls LI and LIII. He originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick (214th overall) by New England out of Houston in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Miami Dolphins sign Mostert

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed running back Raheem Mostert as an unrestricted free agent from San Francisco.

Mostert is in his second stint with the Dolphins after playing one game for the club as a rookie in 2015. He’s played games for five different franchises over seven seasons – Miami (2015), Baltimore (2015), Cleveland (2015), Chicago (2016) and San Francisco (2016-21). Mostert’s appeared in 59 career games with nine starts, totaling 284 carries for 1,610 yards (5.7 avg.) and 11 touchdowns. He’s also caught 36 passes for 361 yards (10.0 avg.) and three touchdowns and returned 26 kickoffs for 648 yards (24.9 avg.). Mostert played in three playoff games for San Francisco when they won the NFC in 2019. His 220 rushing yards in the NFC Championship game vs. Green Bay are the second-most in a playoff game in NFL history. Mostert originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent out of Purdue when he signed with Philadelphia on May 2, 2015.
