Miami Dolphins Announce Sale of Limited Interest to Ares Management for Continued Investment into South Florida and the Ross Sports and Entertainment Portfolio   Download PDF version

In a landmark deal, the Miami Dolphins and Chairman of the Board Stephen M. Ross have announced a strategic investment by Ares Management funds (Ares) and Brooklyn Nets owners Joe Tsai and Oliver Weisberg. In addition to the Miami Dolphins, the transaction includes iconic assets such as Hard Rock Stadium and the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, with the investment fueling continued growth across Ross’ diverse South Florida-based sports and entertainment portfolio. Ares will acquire a 10% stake, while Tsai and Weisberg together will hold a 3% interest, pending final closing of the agreements. The minority, non-controlling interest sale was approved by the NFL at the league meeting on Wednesday, December 11.

Ross, a South Florida native who acquired the Miami Dolphins in 2009, has spent 15 years investing in and revolutionizing South Florida’s sports and entertainment landscape. He has spearheaded and privately financed more than $1 billion of sweeping modernization efforts in the region, elevating Hard Rock Stadium into a premier global sports and entertainment destination. These upgrades have secured the stadium’s role as a host for marquee events that have generated billions in economic impact for South Florida, including Super Bowl LIV, the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, the Miami Open tennis tournament, the 2026 FIFA World Cup and high-profile concerts like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

“As we continue our relentless pursuit of building a best-in-class organization, we were fortunate to attract significant interest from multiple investors, which gave us the opportunity to be highly selective in choosing partners who align with our core values and long-term vision,” said Stephen Ross. “I couldn’t be happier to welcome Ares, Joe, and Ollie to our investment group. They each bring invaluable expertise to the table, with a shared commitment to innovation, growth and doing things first class. Together, with the resources from this transaction, we will prioritize continued investment into the Dolphins, additional sports assets and South Florida real estate to fuel dynamic growth and innovation in the region for years to come.”

Ares Management, a leading global alternative investment manager with $464 billion in assets under management, brings extensive experience investing in sports, media and entertainment opportunities. This transaction marks Ares’ entry into NFL ownership, expanding an existing portfolio that includes professional sports team investments in Inter Miami CF, McLaren Racing and Atlético de Madrid, among others.

“The Miami Dolphins represent an iconic franchise with a deeply engaged fanbase, and Ares is honored to invest alongside Joe and Ollie to support the team’s long-term strategic goals,” said Mark Affolter and Jim Miller, Co-Heads Sports, Media & Entertainment at Ares. “Moreover, Steve has been the architect of an impressive ecosystem of sports, entertainment and real estate assets that underscores the sector’s significant potential for growth and value creation to the benefit of fans, local communities and financial stakeholders. We look forward to working with Steve to continue unlocking new and exciting opportunities ahead.”

“I am privileged to have the opportunity to invest with Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross, a world-class operator,” said Joe Tsai. “He has an incredible collection of premier assets – the iconic Miami Dolphins franchise, state-of-the-art venue in Hard Rock Stadium, and a fantastic events business of global sports brands such as F1 Miami Grand Prix and the Miami Open.”

Bruce Beal, Jr. will continue in his role as vice chairman and partner.

BDT & MSD Partners served as principal advisor on the investment, and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz served as legal counsel to Ross and the Dolphins. The transaction is expected to close in the coming days.

Sieler Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Sunday’s game against the N.Y. Jets, the NFL announced Wednesday.

It is the first AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor of his career and Miami’s first AFC Defensive Player of the Week nod since linebacker Bradley Chubb earned the award against the N.Y. Jets in Week 15 of the 2023 season. It also marks Miami’s second Player of the Week award this season with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week against New England in Week 12.

Sieler had one of the best performances of his career against the Jets, making impact plays at key moments throughout the game and totaling four tackles (two solo), 2.0 sacks, three quarterback hits and two tackles for loss.

With less than a minute remaining in the first half, Sieler delivered his first quarterback hit on third-and-9, forcing Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers to throw an incomplete pass as he looked for the endzone. The play kept the Jets from scoring a touchdown and forced them to settle for a field goal.

Sieler was essential in limiting a Jets’ fourth-quarter rally, delivering both of his sacks as the New York offense looked for the endzone late in the game.

The first sack came on a third-and-2 situation, causing a fourth-and-11 and forcing the Jets to punt. His second sack was one of the most impactful stops of the day, bringing down Rodgers on second-and-15 with just over a minute left in the game and tied 23-23. Sieler’s sack moved the Jets back six yards, causing a third-and-21. The Jets failed to convert and settled for a field goal. Miami’s offense tied the game in the ensuing possession, forcing overtime with a 52-yard field goal from kicker Jason Sanders and eventually winning the divisional matchup.

It was Sieler’s third career game with multiple sacks. His 2.0 sacks were tied for the second-most in the league and led the AFC in Week 14, while his three quarterback hits tied for second most in the NFL.

Sieler leads the team with 6.0 sacks this season. He also leads Miami’s defensive linemen with 39 tackles this year and has now recorded a tackle in 78 consecutive games, which is the second-longest active streak in the NFL among defensive linemen.

Sanders Named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for his performance in November, the NFL announced Thursday.

It is his fourth career AFC Special Teams Player of the Month award after earning the accolade in December 2019 then in back-to-back months in October and November 2020. Sanders is one of only eight players in NFL history, and one of five in the AFC, to earn the Special Teams Player of the Month award at least four times in his career.

This marks Miami’s first Player of the Month Award since wide receiver Tyreek Hill was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month in October 2023, and the team’s ninth overall AFC Special Teams Player of the Month award. Sanders’s four awards are the most by any special teams player in Dolphins history.

Sanders was perfect in November, making 10-of-10 field goals (100.0 pct.), including three from 50-plus yards, and 13-of-13 extra points. He scored a total of 43 points in November, which were the most points scored by any NFL player in the month. He also led all AFC kickers with 24 touchbacks and tied with Detroit’s Jake Bates for the most in the league.

Sanders, who is one of two kickers in the NFL this year to make a field goal in every game, kicked multiple field goals in four of five games played in November. He has made 22-of-26 field goals (84.6 pct.) this year, including seven from 50-plus yards, and all 20 extra points. His 83.4 career field goal percentage (172-of-206) is the top mark in Dolphins history, and he ranks third in team history with 775 points scored.

FB Alec Ingold Named Miami Dolphins Nominee for Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award Presented by Nationwide

Winner Announced at NFL Honors on Thursday, Feb. 6

Miami Gardens, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced that fullback Alec Ingold has been selected as the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award presented by Nationwide. The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is the league’s most prestigious honor, recognizing players who excel on-the-field and demonstrate a steadfast commitment to creating a positive impact beyond the game.

In his third season with the Dolphins, Ingold has continued and even grown his investment in inspiring, empowering and serving the South Florida community. Through his own adoption journey, Ingold has found purpose and intention, focusing much of his work in the advocacy and financial support of children in the child welfare system. After founding the Ingold Family Foundation in 2022, he has established and sustained programming to help youth achieve their dreams, providing education, inspiration, support and access to opportunity.

Ingold authored and published his first book, “The 7 Crucibles” in 2023 and has since developed a curriculum and training modules based on the book’s lessons in personal adversity. In 2024, Ingold implemented this curriculum in Broward County Public Schools, the second-largest school district in Florida. More than 20 of the athletic programs from those schools have been onboarded, impacting up to 17,000 student-athletes. Through his foundation, Ingold hosts annual programming from football camps to his designed Money Mini Camps dedicated to the advancement of financial literacy and professional development for underprivileged high schools.

He has also continued his work with SOS Children’s Villages Florida, a residential foster care community in South Florida. This year, Ingold initiated a season-long “Gifts In Gold” fundraising campaign to provide a brand-new playground for the neighborhood, which will come to completion before the holidays. Ingold also donated 45 brand-new pairs of shoes to ensure the kids started off the school year in style. He makes regular visits to the community and supports them through his foundation.

This marks Ingold’s third selection as his team’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee (2020 Raiders, 2023-24 Dolphins). Also a three-time team captain, Ingold was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2023 as the lead blocker in a unit that led the league in total offense (401.3) for the first time in 30 years.

“Alec continues to be an incredible example of what we want Dolphins players to exemplify on the field, in the locker room and in the community, and we couldn’t be prouder to recognize him as our Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee once again,” said General Manager Chris Grier. His commitment and dedication to all he does sets him apart, and his passion for making an impact on kids, especially those who can find inspiration in his own story, is truly remarkable. When Alec’s football journey comes to an end, his impact will continue to carry on – and that is the greatest legacy a player can leave on the game and on the community.”

Each nominee will receive up to $55,000 and the award winner will receive up to a $265,000 donation to their charity of choice. All donations are made possible by the NFL Foundation and Nationwide Foundation.

All 32 nominees will be recognized for their achievements during the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. The winner of the 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award will be announced during NFL Honors, a primetime awards special to air nationally on FOX and the NFL Network on Thursday, Feb. 6.

Fans are once again encouraged to participate in Nationwide’s annual Charity Challenge, a social media and online contest that allows fans to show support for their favorite Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee. Fans can vote on X/Twitter by posting #WPMOYChallenge along with the last name/X handle of their chosen nominee or by voting directly on NFL.com/ManOfTheYear. The nominee who receives the most collective hashtag mentions and online votes will win an additional $35,000 donation from Nationwide to the charity of their choice, with the runner-up receiving $10,000 and the third-place winner receiving $5,000. Charity Challenge voting takes place from Thursday, Dec. 5 to Sunday, Jan. 6.

Beginning Week 14 and continuing through the end of the season, each of this year’s nominees, including Ingold, will wear a special Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year helmet decal in recognition of their accomplishments on and off the field.
