Miami Dolphins Will Not Have Fans For Training Camp or Preseason Games and Announce Safety Initiatives For When Fans Are Able to Return

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – With the health and safety of its fans and employees front of mind, the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium announced a series of initiatives designed to create a safe environment in 2020.  The organization conducted a thorough review starting in late March of the fan experience with the intent to provide a safe environment for guests.  Stadium capacity for regular season games will be determined at a later date in consultation with health experts and government officials.  Policies for the 2020 season will include:

  • No fans for training camp and preseason games
  • No tailgating for 2020 season
  • Socially-distanced seating clusters
  • All fans and stadium employees will be required to wear a mask when not eating or drinking
  • Mobile touchless entry with more points of entries and exits to help avoid bottlenecks at ingress/egress
  • Cashless experience for food service, parking and retail
  • GBAC Star certification

“Things are changing week to week and we are still more than two months away from our first scheduled regular season home game so we’ll wait and work with local authorities and make the determination about fans or no fans based on the data as we get closer; with the first priority continuing to be everyone’s health and preventing any spread of the virus,” said Tom Garfinkel, Vice-Chairman and CEO of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium.  “We’re ready for any scenario and feel very good about the diligence and attention to detail that has gone into creating the safest environment we can if we are able to have fans on September 20th.”

Upon entry, fans will go through a touchless security scan. Food, beverage, parking and retail will become a cashless experience supported by in-app mobile and credit card payment options. Express pickup for food and beverage will also be available. Fans will receive SMS notifications when their order is ready. Dolphins members/season ticket holders will continue to receive their food, beverage, and retail discount when ordering in the Dolphins mobile app or paying at point-of-sale terminals. Furthermore, all manual faucets, toilet handles, toilets, soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers have been changed to automatic sensors to provide a touchless restroom experience.

These programs are in addition to Hard Rock Stadium becoming the first stadium in the world to receive GBAC STAR™ accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association. Hard Rock Stadium completed 20 program elements focused on cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention practices to control risks associated with infectious agents.

When a capacity is determined, season ticket members will have first priority to purchase tickets based on their tenure.  All season ticket members will have the option to roll their 2020 payments into the 2021 season and retain all of their tenure, seats and associated benefits, and any season ticket members who may be considered at-risk based on CDC guidelines will be strongly encouraged to exercise the 2021 option and stay at home in 2020.

Miami Dolphins Host First-Ever Virtual High School Media Day presented by Nike

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – On June 24, the Miami Dolphins hosted its first-ever virtual High School Media Day (HSMD) presented by Nike for South Florida high school student athletes and their coaches. The one-day immersive experience was made available to every South Florida high school team from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties and provided the opportunity to participate in life skill sessions including financial literacy presented by Truist, diversity and inclusion led by RISE (Ross Initiative In Sports For Equality), nutrition as well as social media tips and tools.

“Going into this year’s high school media day we wanted to be innovative and impactful and by reformatting our programming by taking a virtual approach, we created an engaging opportunity that every student athlete in South Florida could take part in and join our 2020 rookie class as they participate in developmental discussion topics from a safe environment that would assist them on and off the field,” Miami Dolphins Senior Director of Community Relations & Youth Programs RaShauna Hamilton said. “We are thankful for the support of Nike, Truist, RISE and all our contributors in assisting to host this event in what was a valuable experience for the youth of our community and across the country.”

These guided sessions included panels featuring the 2020 Dolphins rookie class to share insight and personal experiences. Additionally, HSMD extended invitations to each of the 21 rookies’ high school football teams expanding outreach to more than 150 high school football programs. This marks the Dolphins’ eighth annual HSMD, having hosted more than 100 teams from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in 2019 at Hard Rock Stadium.

“Football is so big down here in South Florida and with something great like this that the Dolphins are putting on, we had to find a way to do this,” Christopher Columbus High School Head Football Coach David Dunn said. “I think these life skills are really going to help them out in high school and college and the more they can get exposed to things like this the better off they are going to be in the long run. It wasn’t too long ago that the rookies were in our players’ shoes. I think they have unbelievable perspective having been here recently and can give these guys great leadership and advice on how to get to where they are while managing being a student athlete.”

These initiatives align with the Miami Dolphins’ commitment to leveraging the power of sports and entertainment to inspire a healthier, more educated and united South Florida community. Together our players, cheerleaders, alumni, staff and partners are dedicated to being difference-makers in our community.

The Junior Dolphins program encourages youth players and coaches to teach, learn and play football in a fun and safe environment. The Junior Dolphins program is designed to give kids access to learn the fundamentals of football using the NFL’s top resources. To grow the game, the Junior Dolphins program will work to educate coaches, parents and youth on the health and safety of football with a strong emphasis on character development.

Stephen Ross Announces Miami Dolphins Foundation Food Relief Program

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross and the Miami Dolphins Foundation announced a multi-million-dollar major-gift commitment through the Miami Dolphins Foundation at providing jobs and nutrition on a sustained and long-term basis through the Miami Dolphins Food Relief Program. The initiative, starting on June 1, will provide a minimum of 1,000 meals prepared by Centerplate, the team’s food, beverage and retail partner, each weekday out of Hard Rock Stadium up to a 12-month period to families in need in Miami Gardens through a voucher system. On Sundays, the Dolphins will work with area churches, local leadership, and community groups to purchase food from local restaurants to provide a minimum of 1,000 meals each Sunday that will be distributed to those dealing with food insecurity. The program will generate jobs and revenue for the local restaurant industry, while employing guest services and security staff at the stadium that have been idled as a result of COVID-19-related event cancellations.

Stephen Ross and the organization will invest $2 million in the Miami Dolphins Foundation Food Relief Program and will work to raise an additional $1 million by matching all dollars raised by the South Florida community and Miami Dolphins fans worldwide for a potential $4 million total impact. Individuals and businesses that wish to participate in the match program can donate online at dolphins.com/meals. All gifts are tax-deductible with 100% of the funds raised directly benefiting food relief. All donors over $50 will receive a special Miami Dolphins FOOTBALL UNITES™ gift from Ross and Vice Chairman and CEO Tom Garfinkel in appreciation of their participation in this matching campaign.

“We are committed to combating food insecurity and helping to provide consistent employment as the first step in rebuilding our community, starting in Miami Gardens,” said Ross. “We are thankful for the strength that our community has shown through this pandemic and it’s our hope that this program will inspire others to give.”

“Unemployment is growing and a lot of people are suffering and need help,” said Garfinkel. “It was important for us to start at home and help the most vulnerable in our community with a long-term commitment; not just a one-time event.”

“I commend the Miami Dolphins Foundation, owner Stephen Ross and CEO Tom Garfinkel for their commitment to the residents of our community,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “They have set a high standard for others to follow as we all work together to provide food and jobs for those hit hardest by this pandemic.”

“Given the uncertainty of this crisis, all hands should be on deck, and all available resources tapped,” said Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert. “The Miami Dolphins organization is stepping up and providing needed support for our Residents as we continue to fight against COVID-19.”

“The Miami Dolphins and Stephen Ross have been long time partners with this community,” said State Senator Oscar Braynon II. “As we continue to navigate the uncharted waters of COVID-19, their commitment to long term relief for those in need is what I have come to expect from this organization.”

The Miami Dolphins Foundation Food Relief Program expands the Miami Dolphins efforts to combat food insecurity in South Florida. In March, the organization gave $500,000 to help meet critical needs for elderly and youth in the community. These funds were used to support school meal programs for Broward County Public Schools and Miami-Dade County Public Schools, relief efforts led by churches in Miami Gardens and to bolster programs from Feeding South Florida to provide access to food for underserved populations in the area.

Earlier this month, Ross provided a grant for Miami Dolphins alumni John Offerdahl (Offerdahl’s Off-The-Grill), Kim Bokamper (Bokamper’s Sports Bar & Grill), Bob Brudzinski (Bru’s Room Sports Grill) and the late, legendary Coach Don Shula to provide free meals to first responders, Dolphins FOOTBALL UNITES™ community partners and vulnerable populations who have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Over a three-week period, the restaurants delivered 35,440 meals and Pepsi provided 65,644 bottles of Bolt24.

In addition, Dolphins and Truist as part of its Truist Cares initiative partnered to support local small business and provide meals to the South Florida community as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. More than 2,700 pre-packaged meals were prepared by local food trucks and delivered to Miami Dolphins FOOTBALL UNITES™ community partners over a six-week period.
