Miami Dolphins Visit Baptist Children’s Hospital
MIAMI – Miami Dolphins’ players Stephone Anthony, John Denney and Kenny Stills, Miami Dolphins Women’s Organization (MDWO) Jennifer Gase, cheerleaders, T.D. and staff spent the day visiting patients at Baptist Children’s Hospital of Baptist Health South Florida on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
“It’s great to have these kind of opportunities to visit the children on the holidays and bring them something to lift their spirits and bring a smile to their face,” Denney said. “I have five kids of my own and you walk in and see these kids in unfortunate situations and it really tugs at your heartstrings.”
The children and their families had a chance to interact with the team, get autographs and take photos. In addition, the group distributed Dolphins’ giveaways including footballs, board games as well as teddy bears donated by Build-A-Bear Workshop in an effort to brighten their day.
“It makes me feel super happy because I see them, and after that play, I didn’t think anything could make me happier and then they come and visit me and everyone here in the hospital it really makes me feel like I can do anything it’s like a dream come true,” Manuel Estrada said. “I see them all the time and I love watching football with my family and to see them playing they are kind of like celebrities that you never thought you would meet and then I meet them and I’m super happy about it.”
“We are very happy to have the Dolphins here they are bringing joy and cheer to the children and their families and I think it is really special that they give up their time to come here. No one wants to be in the hospital during the holidays and it is amazing to see how happy the kids are when they walk into the room and we are very happy to have this partnership with the Miami Dolphins Organization, Baptist Health and Baptist Children’s Hospital,” Assistant Vice
President of Baptist Children’s Hospital Nancy Huertas Savino added.

Kenny Stills named Miami Dolphins Nominee for Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for Second Consecutive Season
MIAMI GARDENS, FL — The Miami Dolphins today announced Kenny Stills as the team’s nominee for the WALTER PAYTON NFL MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD. Representing the best of the NFL’s commitment to philanthropy and community impact, Stills was selected as the Dolphins’ Man of the Year and is now eligible to win the national award. Considered one of the League’s most prestigious honors, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field as well as excellence on the field.
New this year, all 32 team winners will be highlighted as finalists and recognized for their important work during the weekend leading up to Super Bowl LIII. The 2018 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year will be announced during NFL Honors, a two-hour primetime awards special to air nationally on February 2, 2019, the eve of Super Bowl LIII, on CBS. NFL Honors will be at Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
Five hundred thousand dollars will be donated in the name of the 2018 winner. $250,000 will be donated in his name to expand Character Playbook, the NFL and United Way’s digital character education program. An additional donation of $250,000 will be donated to the charity of his choice. All other 31 nominees will receive a donation of $50,000 in their name to expand Character Playbook, and an additional donation of up to $50,000 to their charity of choice. All donations are courtesy of the NFL Foundation, Nationwide and United Way Worldwide.
This is the second consecutive year that Stills has been nominated by the Dolphins. In his fourth season with the team, he has consistently utilized his position as a professional athlete to make an impact on and off the field. Stills is a two-time winner (2016 and 2017) of the team’s Nat Moore Community Service Award, given each year to a Miami Dolphins player recognized for his involvement in the South Florida community.
In 2016, he worked with the Miami Dolphins and Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE) to host a town hall meeting that brought influential local leaders together with law enforcement to discuss actionable steps that could be taken to address issues of racial inequality and unite the community. Items that came from this meeting included a police ride along program and CommUNITY tailgates, which brought local student-athletes, coaches, parents, community leaders, law enforcement and military personnel together at every Dolphins home game.
In 2017, Stills spearheaded a campaign that led to every Dolphins player completing paperwork to become a registered voter for the first time in team history. The initiative was created through a partnership with RISE and the Drum Major Institute, led by Martin Luther King III and Bill Wachtel. Stills later traveled throughout the county on a social justice tour during the 2017 offseason to see first-hand and participate in work to fight for equality and social justice.
This September, Stills was named a “Luminary Icon” by LGBTQ-rights group SAVE for his social justice work in the community. He has participated in countless hours of community service events during the 2018 season and has been a key figure in the Miami Dolphins FOOTBALL UNITES™ program, uniting groups of different races, genders, sexual orientations, identities and abilities in South Florida around the power of football.
The Dolphins have had three players named as winners of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award (Dwight Stephenson in 1985, Dan Marino in 1998 and Jason Taylor in 2007). Miami is one of only seven teams to have had three or more winners of the award.

Miami Dolphins in Partnership with Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau Host Fourth FOOTBALL UNITES™ Cultural Tour
MIAMI— The Miami Dolphins in partnership with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted their fourth FOOTBALL UNITES™ Cultural Tour in an effort to experience historical locations throughout Broward County. Dolphins players MarQueis Gray, Francis Owusu and Jonathan Woodard, alumnus Nat Moore, as well as Dolphins cheerleaders and staff spent the day with local youth, community leaders and law enforcement to understand the richness and diversity of the area.
“Greater Fort Lauderdale is a welcoming destination offering diverse cultural and historical experiences, and we’re so proud that the Miami Dolphins partnered with us for the Fourth Football Unites Cultural Tour,” President and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau Stacy Ritter said.
The tour began with a visit to the African American Research Library in Fort Lauderdale followed by a tour of the Urban League of Broward County, a FOOTBALL UNITES™ community partner.
“Going on this tour and having our tour guide point out so many different things about the city was pretty interesting. I feel like I need to get out and see the city a little more,” Dolphins tight end Gray said. “It was great to see law enforcement out here with the youth as well. The youth are our future and to see that they have the Dolphins, the youth programs and officers here together speaks volumes for our program.”
In addition, the group visited the Stranahan House to tour the home of the credited founders of Fort Lauderdale, Frank and Ivy Stranahan. The day concluded with a stop at Fort Lauderdale Beach.
“I think it’s really important and eye opening to know your history. To not just focus on where you are right now but focus on your past because it does help you in the future to grow and really push forward,” Dolphins Cheerleader Shayla said. “My favorite part was just meeting so many different people. We want to know everybody and all different types of communities and learn about different cultures.”
Previous FOOTBALL UNITES™ Cultural Tours included visits to Little Havana, Overtown, Liberty City, the Jewish Museum of Florida and The Palace in South Beach. These unique experiences are a result of a partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.
