Miami Dolphins sign Bryant

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed defensive tackle Brandin Bryant.

Bryant made his NFL regular-season debut in 2019 with Cleveland, playing in four games with three tackles (two solo). He also spent time with the N.Y. Jets (2016-17) and originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Seattle on May 6, 2016. Bryant also spent two seasons in the Canadian Football League, appearing in 10 games with Winnipeg in 2018 and one game with Montreal in 2019. He played collegiately at Florida Atlantic University.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed cornerback Xavien Howard on the reserve/COVID-19* list.

Howard has played in 40 career games with 39 starts – all for the Dolphins. He has totaled 140 career tackles (108 solo), one sack, 12 interceptions, 35 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Howard tied for the NFL lead with seven interceptions in 2018. He originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (38th overall) by Miami in the 2016 NFL draft. The Dolphins placed him on the active/physically unable to perform list on July 28, 2020.

*This new reserve list category was created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, their club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Per agreed upon NFL-NFLPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on a player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Miami Dolphins awarded Wieting off waivers

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have been awarded tight end Nate Wieting off waivers from Cleveland.

Wieting originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Cleveland on May 5, 2020. Wieting was a four-year letterman (2016-19) at Iowa, where he played in 39 career games with 15 starts. He totaled 13 career receptions for 185 yards (14.2 avg.). As a senior in 2019, Wieting played in 11 games with nine starts, totaling 10 receptions for 117 yards (11.7 avg.). He was the co-recipient of the 2019 Brett Greenwood Award, given annually to the Iowa walk-on who embodies the core values and behaviors of Greenwood through their persistence, determination, commitment, preparation and actions.

Miami Dolphins activate Munson

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have activated linebacker Calvin Munson off the non-football injury list. Munson was placed on the non-football injury list on July 28, 2020.

Munson joined the Dolphins on Dec. 17, 2019. He played in two games for the Dolphins last year, totaling seven tackles (five solo). Munson also had stints with New England (2018-19) and the N.Y. Giants (2017-18). He played in 14 games with five starts as a rookie with the Giants in 2017. Munson originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Giants on May 12, 2017.

Miami Dolphins sign Rogers

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed wide receiver Chester Rogers.

Rogers has spent all four seasons (2016-19) of his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts. He’s played in 53 career games with 22 starts, totaling 111 receptions for 1,221 yards (11.0 avg.) and five touchdowns. Rogers has also played in two playoff games with one start, totaling nine receptions for 76 yards (8.4 avg.).a He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Indianapolis on May 3, 2016.a

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed wide receiver Ricardo Louis and placed defensive tackle Ray Smith on the reserve/retired list. The team also activated defensive tackle Raekwon Davis, defensive tackle Benito Jones, guard Solomon Kindley and wide receiver Kirk Merritt off the reserve/COVID-19* list.

Louis originally joined the Dolphins on April 8, 2019 but was on injured reserve for the entire 2019 season. He was waived by the Dolphins on July 25, 2020. Louis played all 32 games with 12 starts in the first two years of his NFL career (2016-17), both with Cleveland. He totaled 45 receptions for 562 yards (12.5 avg.) before missing the 2018 season due to injury. He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (114th overall) by Cleveland in the 2016 NFL draft. Louis is a Miami native, attending Miami Beach Senior High School and the University of Miami.

Smith was awarded off waivers to Miami on July 29, 2020. He spent the offseason with San Francisco after spending stints on Detroit and San Francisco’s practice squads in 2019. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Detroit on May 10, 2019. Smith was a four-year letterman (2015-18) at Boston College, where he played in 39 career games and totaled 137 tackles (53 solo), 1.5 sacks, one interception and eight passes defensed.

Davis was one of Miami’s second-round picks (56th overall) in the 2020 NFL draft. A four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Alabama, Davis earned second-team All-American honors as a senior in 2019. He played in 48 career games with 32 starts, totaling 175 tackles (67 solo), 11.5 sacks, one interception, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Jones was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on April 29, 2020. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Mississippi. Jones played in all 48 games of his collegiate career with 36 starts. As a senior in 2019, he totaled 30 tackles (19 solo) and 5.5 sacks, earning second-team All-SEC honors.

Kindley was Miami’s fourth-round pick (111th overall) in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Georgia. Kindley played in 43 career games with 32 starts – 25 at left guard and seven at right guard. He earned Freshman All-SEC honors in 2017.

Merritt was signed by Miami as an undrafted college free agent on April 29, 2020. He was a two-year starter at Arkansas State, where he earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors as a senior in 2019. Last year, Merritt started all 13 games and caught 70 passes for 806 yards (11.5 avg.) and 12 touchdowns. He also had a kickoff return touchdown. Merritt was named the Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2018.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have activated defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, safety Brandon Jones and defensive end Shaq Lawson off the reserve/COVID-19* list

Godchaux enters his fourth season after he was a fifth-round pick (178th overall) by Miami in the 2017 NFL draft. He’s played in 47 career games with 37 starts and has 163 tackles (90 solo), three sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. His 75 tackles in 2019 were the second-most by any defensive tackle in the NFL last season.

Jones was a third-round pick (70th overall) by Miami in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Texas, where he played in 46 career games with 35 starts. As a senior in 2019, Jones was voted a team captain and started 12 games. He had 233 career tackles (175 solo), four interceptions and 11 passes defensed.

Lawson signed with Miami as an unrestricted free agent on March 21, 2020. He’s played in 50 career games with 17 starts during his four-year (2016-19) NFL career – all in Buffalo. Lawson has 108 career tackles (63 solo), 16.5 sacks, 10 passes defensed and five fumble recoveries. He originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick (19th overall) by Buffalo in the 2016 NFL draft.

Miami Dolphins make roster moves

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have waived/non-football injury cornerback Javaris Davis. The team activated running back Malcolm Perry and defensive tackle Zach Sieler off the reserve/COVID-19* list. The Dolphins also placed defensive tackle Raekwon Davis, defensive tackle Benito Jones, safety Brandon Jones, guard Solomon Kindley, defensive end Shaq Lawson and wide receiver Kirk Merritt on the reserve/COVID-19* list.

Javaris Davis was awarded to the Dolphins off waivers on July 27, 2020 after spending the offseason with Kansas City. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on April 30, 2020. Davis played in 49 games with 35 starts in a four-year career (2016-19) at Auburn.

Perry was Miami’s seventh-round pick (246th overall) in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at the Naval Academy, where 21 of his starts came at quarterback. Perry set an FBS quarterback record with 2,017 rushing yards in 2019 and his 4,359 career rushing yards are second in Navy history. He was also voted a team captain and named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2019.

Sieler was awarded off waivers to Miami on Dec. 5, 2019 and played in three games with one start for Miami last year. He totaled eight tackles (three solo), one sack and two passes defensed with the Dolphins. Sieler also spent time with Baltimore in 2018 and 2019. He originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick (238th overall) by Baltimore in the 2018 NFL draft.

Raekwon Davis was one of Miami’s second-round pick (56th overall) in the 2020 NFL draft. A four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Alabama, Davis earned second-team All-American honors as a senior in 2019.
