Miami Dolphins make roster moves
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have placed defensive tackle Davon Godchaux on the reserve/COVID-19* list.
Godchaux enters his fourth season after he was a fifth-round pick (178th overall) by Miami in the 2017 NFL draft. He’s played in 47 career games with 37 starts and has 163 tackles (90 solo), three sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. His 75 tackles in 2019 were the second-most by any defensive tackle in the NFL last season.
*This new reserve list category was created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, their club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Per agreed upon NFL-NFLPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on a player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Clubs may not disclose whether a player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have activated cornerback Cordrea Tankersley off the reserve/COVID-19* list and waived long snapper Rex Sunahara and Cordrea Tankersley.
Sunahara was signed as an undrafted college free agent by the Dolphins on Aug. 1, 2020. He played collegiately at West Virginia, where he was a semifinalist for the 2019 Patrick Mannelly Award, given annually to the nation’s top long snapper. Sunahara played in 25 career games at West Virginia and handled long snapping duties for punts, field goals in extra points in all 24 games as a junior and senior.
Tankersley has played in 17 career games with 11 starts – all for Miami. He has 35 career tackles (26 solo) and seven passes defensed. Tankersley originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick (97th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2017 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2013-16) and two-year starter at Clemson, where he earned first-team All-American and first-team All-ACC honors as a senior in 2016.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have been awarded cornerback Picasso Nelson Jr. off waivers from Indianapolis. The team also activated linebacker Jerome Baker off the reserve/COVID-19* list and placed running back Malcolm Perry on the list.
Nelson spent part of the 2019 season on Indianapolis’ practice squad. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Jacksonville on May 10, 2019. Nelson played 50 games at Southern Mississippi (2014-17), where he recorded 202 tackles (120 solo), 15 passes defensed, five interceptions and one forced fumble. As a senior in 2018, he earned honorable mention All-Conference USA honors.
Baker was Miami’s third-round pick (73rd overall) in the 2018 NFL draft. He’s played in all 32 games over his two-year career with 26 starts. Baker has totaled 200 tackles (130 solo), 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, seven passes defensed and two forced fumbles in his NFL career. His 200 career stops are seventh among all players selected in the 2018 draft class and he served as a team captain for the Dolphins during the 2019 season.
Perry was Miami’s seventh-round pick (246th overall) in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at the Naval Academy, where 21 of his starts came at quarterback. Perry set an FBS quarterback record with 2,017 rushing yards in 2019 and his 4,359 career rushing yards are second in Navy history. He was also voted a team captain and named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2019.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have activated long snapper Blake Ferguson off the reserve/COVID-19* list and placed guard Ereck Flowers on the list.
Ferguson was a sixth-round pick (185th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2020 NFL draft. He was a four-year letterman (2016-19) at LSU, where he played in 53 consecutive games and became the first long snapper in school history to be named a permanent team captain. As a senior in 2019, Ferguson helped his team win the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Flowers was signed by Miami as an unrestricted free agent on March 21, 2020. He’s played in 75 career games with 71 starts after spending time in Washington (2019), Jacksonville (2018) and with the N.Y. Giants (2015-18). Last year, Flowers started all 16 games at left guard for Washington. He originally entered the NFL with the Giants as the ninth overall pick of the 2015 NFL draft. A Miami native, Flowers attended Norland Senior High School and the University of Miami.

Sunahara is an undrafted free agent from West Virginia, where he was a semifinalist for the 2019 Patrick Mannelly Award, given annually to the nation’s top long snapper. Sunahara played in 25 career games at West Virginia and handled long snapping duties for punts, field goals in extra points in all 24 games as a junior and senior. He originally began his collegiate career at Rhode Island before transferring to West Virginia in 2016.
