Miami Dolphins tender 4 exclusive rights free agents
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have tendered the following exclusive rights free agents: tight end Thomas Duarte, linebacker Mike Hull, cornerback Lafayette Pitts and center/guard Anthony Steen.
Duarte was a seventh-round selection (231st overall) by the Dolphins in the 2016 NFL draft and played in one game during his rookie season. The UCLA product spent the first eight weeks of the regular season on the team’s practice squad before he was signed to the active roster on Nov. 5, 2016. He was inactive for eight contests.
Hull played in all 16 games with one start in 2016 and made 15 tackles (seven solo) and one interception. He intercepted Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer in the first quarter of his first NFL start on Dec. 11, 2016. Hull also played in three contests for the Dolphins in 2015. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the team on May 8, 2015.
Pitts appeared on special teams in eight games for the Dolphins in 2016 and made three special teams stops during his rookie season. Pitts spent the first nine weeks of the regular season on the practice squad before he was signed to the active roster and participated in each of the team’s final eight regular season contests. The Dolphins signed him as an undrafted college free agent on May 6, 2016 after he finished his collegiate career at Pittsburgh.
Steen played in 15 games with seven starts at center for the Dolphins in 2016. He was inactive one game due to injury. During the season, Steen was only penalized twice and did not allow a sack. He started the first three games of the season at center, the first regular season action of his NFL career. Steen originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Arizona on May 12, 2014 and was signed by the Dolphins to the team’s practice squad on Nov. 24, 2015.

Quotes
Miami Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross
“As an owner, I have the responsibility to develop them as great football players, to prolong their careers, but also it’s a responsibility to make sure they are developed when their careers are over. I know from my business career, the better you treat people — the better the organization you have and you attract the best. That’s all part of it and everyone wins in a situation like that.”
Cameron Wake
“I know the reality of being a football player. It’s not forever. At the same time, I’ve had a tremendous career playing for the Miami Dolphins as long as I have. But you know every peer that you graduated from high school with or even if you graduated from college with, they’ve started. The same way I progressed in my career, they’ve progressed in theirs. Whether it be real estate, venture capitalism or whatever it may be.. The things the Miami Dolphins and the NFL present, I can use those things and leverage that time I have now so that I can do my best to be able to make that transition smoothly. And truth be told, talking to other guys that have been doing this, they have a master’s degree. I may have a master’s degree in football, they might have a master’s degree in whatever their career is. So being here and being with the best of the best and learning from people who I’m sure there are guys out there in the real estate field who would love to be sitting down, elbow to elbow, having a meal with a guy like Stephen Ross and here I am doing it because of the situation that I am with the Miami Dolphins. I am able to relish this opportunity that is presented and making the most of it.”

Miami Dolphins Host Hope to Dream Sleepover presented by Ashley HomeStore
Davie, Fla. — At the first South Florida Hope to Dream Sleepover, the Miami Dolphins and Ashley HomeStore surprised 100 underprivileged children with the gift of comfortable sleep for years come. Each of the children enjoyed a sleepover party at the Dolphins Training Center, where they received their very own twin-size bed and bedding from Ashley HomeStore, decked out with a Miami Dolphins comforter.
“Partnering with the Dolphins gave us a terrific chance to create some magic for these kids,” said Keith Koenig, president of City Furniture, the southeast and southwest Florida licensee for Ashley HomeStore. “The sleepover party on the Dolphins’ training field made for once-in-a-lifetime memories, and their new beds should make a lasting difference in their comfort and quality of sleep.”
The event hosted by the Miami Dolphins on Feb. 24 was the latest gridiron-themed sleepover for Ashley HomeStore’s international Hope to Dream initiative. The kids enjoyed dinner, toured the Dolphins locker room and powered through fun games and activities with Miami Dolphins players Xavien Howard, Bobby McCain, Rashawn Scott, Kenny Stills and Laremy Tunsil, cheerleaders, Fins Force and mascot TD before a dance party on their new beds.
“It’s a great experience and I’m happy to be here,” McCain said. “Underprivileged kids coming in here and Ashley HomeStore doing a great job providing these kids with beds. With the Miami Dolphins and the league in general, kids are important. It’s not all about football, it’s a lot bigger than that.”
Ashley HomeStore, the largest furniture retailer in the U.S., dedicates a portion of proceeds from every mattress sale at participating locations to its Hope to Dream program, which has donated 40,000 new beds and bedding to children in need since 2010. All Ashley HomeStore locations in Miami-Dade through Martin counties in South Florida are active year-round in the Hope to Dream charity’s donation program.
Also helping bring the South Florida Hope to Dream Sleepover to life were Simmons Serta, Bedgear and Mantua.

Miami Dolphins Re-Sign 6 Former Players
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they re-signed quarterbacks Bob Griese and Dan Marino, wide receiver Nat Moore, guard Larry Little, defensive end/linebacker Kim Bokamper and cornerback Sam Madison. Each player signed a contract and will officially retire as members of the Miami Dolphins.
These six former players were added to the active roster to further emphasize the bond between the organization and the team’s alumni, who helped established the rich legacy of the Miami Dolphins. Each player was named as one of the top 50 players in franchise history and have combined for three Hall of Fame inductions, two NFL Most Valuable Player awards, two retired jerseys, 14 first-team All-Pro honors and 25 Pro Bowl selections (15 Pro Bowl starts).
Bokamper played nine years (1977-85) with the Dolphins and was a member of the “Killer B’s” defense that helped the team reach two Super Bowls in the 1980s. With 40.0 career sacks, he ranks tied for No. 8 among the Dolphins’ all-time sack leaders and led the Dolphins in sacks in 1980. Bokamper was named to the 1979 Pro Bowl team.
Griese is one of only three Dolphins to have his jersey retired. He played 14 seasons with the Dolphins (1967-80) and was a key component of the great Dolphins teams in the 1970s. He was the starting quarterback on the Dolphins’ two Super Bowl wins (1972, 1973) and threw for more than 25,000 yards and 192 touchdowns in his Dolphins career. Griese was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990 and inducted into the Dolphins Honor Roll in 1990, while his No. 12 jersey was retired by the Dolphins in 1982.
Little played 12 seasons (1969-80) with the Dolphins and was a key ingredient in the powerful running game that led to two Super Bowl titles in 1972 and 1973. He started 152 of the 158 games he played as a Dolphin, the third highest starting total by any lineman in Dolphins history. He was named to four Pro Bowls, including three starts. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993 and was selected to the Dolphins Honor Roll in 1993.
Madison played nine years (1997-05) with the Dolphins. His 31 interceptions rank No. 3 on the team’s all-time interceptions list. He tied for the team lead with eight interceptions in 1998, which matched the second-highest single-season interception figure in team history and led Miami with seven picks in 1999. He was selected to four Pro Bowl teams (1999-02), the second-highest figure among defensive backs in Dolphins history.
Marino is one of the most prolific passers in NFL history and played 17 years with the Dolphins (1983-99). He is one of only three Dolphins to have his jersey retired. Marino threw for 61,361 yards and 420 touchdowns in his career and when he retired, he held the NFL’s all-time records for most passing attempts, completions, yards and touchdowns. He re-wrote the NFL passing records in 1984 season when he threw for 5,084 yards and 48 touchdowns (the first over 40 TDs and 5,000 yards passing). Marino was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005 and was inducted into the Dolphins Honor Roll in 2000. His No. 13 jersey was retired by the Dolphins in 2000.
Moore played 13 seasons for the Dolphins (1974-86) and had 510 catches for 7,547 yards (14.8 avg.) and 74 touchdowns. He was the Dolphins’ all-time leader in receptions, reception yardage, and touchdown catches when he retired. Moore ranks No. 2 in touchdowns and No. 3 in receptions and receiving yardage in team history. He also led the AFC in scoring in 1977. Moore was inducted into the Dolphins Honor Roll in 1999 and the team’s annual community service award is named in his honor.

Miami Dolphins Sign Wake To Contract Extension
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed defensive end Cameron Wake to a contract extension through the 2018 season.
Wake had a remarkable comeback season in 2016 in which he earned his fifth Pro Bowl selection. Just one season removed from when he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in 2015, Wake totaled 11.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and one interception in 2016. His 11.5 sacks were third in the AFC and tied for sixth in the NFL. Since Wake was inserted in the starting lineup in Week 6 of the 2016 season, he was second in the AFC with 10.5 sacks and helped the Dolphins win nine of their final 11 games. He is one of just three NFL players in the past decade to have a double-digit sack season at age 34 or older.
In his eight NFL seasons, Wake has totaled 81.5 sacks. His sack total is second in NFL history among undrafted players (supplemental draft picks not included) and is second in Dolphins history behind Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor (131.0). Additionally, his 81.5 sacks are the most by any Dolphins player in his first eight seasons in team history.
